Why is traveling good and different ways?

After DH retired we traveled alot with the 5th wheel and I am sure glad we were able to.

Met a lot of nice families from all over the world.

Got to see lots of small towns all over US and Canada

Found good places to eat, different foods and left overs came back to the trailer.

Found out different ways to prepare meats and veggies.

Found great places to shop, and lots of outlets.

What did you learn and see?

Ditto the above, plus found a lot of things for my dh's hobby. We saw every car or air museum in any town we have gone through. LOL One of the things I particularly enjoyed, was finding places where our families had lived,died and what they did in between.I love histiry, so we also stopped at any historical site and if it was worth more than reading the sign, we would follow it up. Learning so much about our country and our neighbors also gives us a lot of pleasure.

for me, traveling means a get away from the same ole, same old at home.

Love traveling... but then you already knew didn't you. :)

Jennymama, I just wanted to say congratulations on your new quarters! I came to this thread late so have just been reading through the posts...I kind of started chuckling about halfway through at the different "camps" we are all in (those who say "go for it" and those who shudder at the thought of living in a travel trailer for several months, LOL.) I wanted to do that when we were building on our land, and two years later I still think our lives would have been easier in many ways had we done so (we also thought about going ahead and building the shop and putting a small bathroom in it, to live in during the build.) I think you have three really big considerations that will make you very glad you did this. One is that the drive to your dd's school would take up so much of the time that you will need for dealing with things as the house is being built, not to mention time that could be better spent with your younger one. Two hours a day, five days is a week is a LOT of time that you just gave yourself! The two other things will be important to your sanity and comfort over the next few months, and they are the facts that you can put your travel trailer a bit away from construction site for privacy from the comings and goings of the workers (and safety for the kids re: construction materials) and also that you have that big finished shop. If you can keep that for your own stuff and not have it become a repository for storing construction stuff, it will be a real asset as far as storing kids' toys and household goods. You can both have things with you that might take up too much room in the camper, and start to move more of your stuff when it gets closer to time for the move. Hey pink, the bus driver was cute as a bug and one particular beautiful lead singer, in one of the big shows, found him quite attractive. Long story, but we all got big chuckles over her and her actions just as we boarded the bus to head back to B'ham.

Different way to cook cauliflower

I've always liked cauliflower with chickpeas and olives: Separate the cauliflower into florets, put in a pan with about the same amount of cooked or canned chickpeas, drizzle with olive oil, add sliced olives and some red pepper, maybe a little salt. Bake at 450º till the cauliflower starts to brown and get a little crispy. Stir after ten minutes or so in the oven.

Pillog: This is my family's favorite shortcake. It is the biscuit type, but very rich, moist, sweet and delicious! 2 cups sifted all purpose flour 2 Tbls. sugar 3 tsp. baking powder 1/2 tsp salt 1/2 cup butter 1 beaten egg 2/3 cup light cream 3 to 4 cups sugared slice strawberries (or more) 1 cup whipping cream, whipped Stir together dry ingredients; cut in butter till mixture is like coarse crumbs. Combine egg and cream; add all at once to dry ingredients, stirring ONLY to moisten. I sprinkle granulated sugar all over top. Spread dough in greased 8" x 1&1/2" round pan. Bake @ 450 degrees for 15-18 minutes or till golden. Watch carefully, so not to overcook. Remove from oven and cool on rack. I usually make this for family gatherings, so I triple the recipe. Each pan will probably make 6 nice size wedges. We then split each wedge in half and cover inside and out with macerated strawberries and home whipped cream. ( We never butter the shortcake and it's also good with just straight cream, if you are that indulgent! ) Delicious! All of my adult children have called for the recipe and it always gets raves!

Talk about a loaded question! WOW!

Travel has taught me so much, about others and about myself. It has taught me to open my mind to other cultures, it has instilled a burning quest to know more about others and how they live. I learned to be thankful for the blessings bestowed upon me and to slow down, observe and appreciate them.

Travel has torn down barriers and preconceived notions that I had, it introduced me to ideas and ideals that I would not have ever considered if I had not been forced to see them. It has granted me so many experiences and so many sights and sounds....

I can't say it any better than our beloved Mark Twain did:

When I met DH, I had only traveled as far as Iowa and WI with my kids (no money, no travel).
DH and I have traveled tons! We used to fly to vacations, different places in Mexico (so friendly...at least then),Portugal, San Diego, SF, Alaska, Hawaii.
With the motor home we have done lots more traveling. Maine, Utah, Dakotas, WI, Florida, Texas, upper New York, Iowa, Louisiana, Nebraska, and more, and to many, many of the beautiful state park in MN. We have been so fortunate. He can enjoy his hobby of fishing and I can do my photography.
We have seen and done so much, and I have thousands of pictures to remind me.

Travel broadens your view of the world and the people who live in it.

It allows you to experience being different, being illiterate ....and better able to understand and accept people who visit your own part of the country and the world.

Seeing places of historical importance is so much more powerful than any flat photograph or movie.
