A ? if you are or know someone in an Engineering firm

My DD's fiance, will graduate as a Mechanical Engineer in the Spring. However, he is really struggling right now with whether he should spend one more year or so in school to get his Master's degree.

The problem is, he is an older student, having originally gone to college for a trade and working for a few years, before going back to school for Engineering. He wouldn't finish his Master's until he is at least 30, and doesn't know which factor would be more in his favor. My question is: Would a company more likely hire a 22 year old graduate with a general Engineering degree, but no Master's, or a 30 year old who has a Master's degree, but like the younger graduate, has no Engineering work experience.

DD's fiance is trying to determine if staying in school even longer (and accruing more debt) to get his Master's, will make him a better candidate for job offers and assure a higher starting salary. He's thinking it could backfire if a company might prefer to save money by hiring a younger graduate with less education, at a lower starting salary. I'd greatly appreciate hearing the opinion from anyone in that field who can offer insight into which might be the better move, so I can pass it on to my DD.
