Do you have a great pair of everyday shoes?

I need something comfy but not ugly!

I switch between slip-on loafers (with a slight heel) and navy blue sneakers. Really--they go with everything I wear to work (I can wear "casual Friday" clothes all the time, tho others dress up more, but I'm not into fashion and I don't care about spending a lot of money on clothes. Why do guys have it so much easier--twill pants, a button-down shirt even without a tie--done!).

But I need to stop wearing the same pair of sneakers--they're getting too old, so the support has worn down, I'm sure.

What have you found that make your feet say "THANK YOU!"?

I have some skechers in black and another in brown that I wear all the time. I have feet issues too and these are great.

In the colder weather it's Lands' End All-Weather Mocs hands down. I like the previous style better than the current one, though.

In my last house, I kept my everyday dishes in the middle drawer of a 36" pot & pan drawer that was in the peninsula, perpendicular to the dishwasher -- standing at the dishwasher I could just pop everything into the drawer. It was wonderful - no more lifting stacks of heavy stoneware from a wall cabinet. I'll repeat it in the new house, but in the island because there's no peninsula. I used an organizer but I don't plan to use it this time. I found it easy to scrape knuckles on the posts, and when I removed them, nothing moved so I think I'll leave them out. Incidentally, the bottom drawer in that stack held paper goods. A church study group met at our house each week. People rotated bringing snacks, and I supplied napkins, cups, drinks, plates, etc. Everything was in that drawer, and I could get it out and put it away in a minute. Very handy! Arlene

Maybe if I had a bigger closet I'd have more shoes! Nah, doesn't necessarily work that way. Two houses ago we had two huge (to us anyway, one 8x10ish and one 6x12)walk-in closets and it didn't affect our purchasing habits at all. I think it's simply just in how naturally acquisitive you are. If you're oriented toward accumulation of "stuff", it doesn't matter whether you live in a 20,000sf mansion or a 200sf studio, you're going to find a way to have your stuff, and it doesn't really matter what your "stuff" is either. When I lived in a 200sf studio, one of my immediate neighbors (same size apartment) lined one of her walls (12 foot ceilings, note) with shoe boxes and had a stepladder to get to the way-up ones. She was practically a Carrie Bradshaw - she chose to live in this teensy apartment so she could have hundreds of pairs of $300-500 shoes. 20x20 is almost half the size of the second floor of my 1 1/2 story house. The notion of a closet that size boggles me. Clearly I'm in the wrong place - is there a forum for "po'-ass trash"?

Dreamingnh, thanks for the additional website! Amazingly the inset drawers seem to look nice in both the recessed look or the slab look. I am also glad I started this thread since I think it is helping all of us and I love seeing what everyone is doing to make their lives easier. 3mutts. Thank you for letting me know that you have so many drawers and went with the slab drawer for ease of cleaning and the clean flush look. Bmorepanic, that sounds very convenient your layout of the shelves and the recessed wall for the glasses and mugs so are easy to reach for and to put away. circuspeanut, thanks for letting me know that you have your cabinets at 16" and you love it to reach everything. An installer was here for an estimate and I told him I wanted the cabinets lower and he said I could do it but first find out how much extra crown molding I would need and what the cost would be if I still wish for the cabinets to reach the ceiling. I am definitely going to look into this since I would love for the cabinets to be lower. I have a tall blender but I can just place the blender on the open counter that has no cabinets over it since it is open to the family room with a half of a wall in between (so far three cabinet guys want to know if I want to extend the granite counter there to put stools there but it will lessen my walk way so I prefer not to and not to increase my granite costs). Thanks for letting me know there is not code regulation for the height of cabinets over a counter and not over a range.

I probably have more than I need but not an extreme amount. As you can see, women have a tendency to buy more shoes than they can possibly ever wear and that's where I come in. Almost all of my shoes are from Goodwill or yard sales but still new and usually brand name (anyone else ever buy a pair of Merrells for 50 cents??? Clarks for $4.50????) I do buy my running shoes from other sources since they have to be Asics but it's easy to find a good deal on those. I buy one pair at a time, wear them until they need to be replaced, then I buy a new pair. I keep the old pair on hand in case I need a pair of getting dirty shoes (yard work, painting, etc). Whenever I get a new pair, I shift them and throw the oldest pair out so I always only have two pairs of running shoes.

I have a pair of black suede flats with a half inch wedge running along the bottom(paid about $75 for those). Or...the navy blue air in the sole pair slip ons I purchased at a sporting goods store. Or....the light tan suede Borns, they tie on the top. The black suede Rockport mules.

Comfy shoes are HIGH on my list of necessities! :0)

I'm with Alisande. Land's End All-Weather Mocs are great. I like the ankle boot height but unfortunately they seem to have been discontinued. I have one more new pair stashed away. I never wear sneakers anymore. the Land's Ends are so much better.

In the winter, I think I live in my Ugg boots. I have 3 different colors and love them. They're warm and comfy and I feel like I'm wearing slippers! :-)

Excellent question - when I am at work I typically wear heels; weekends I am usually in sneakers. Something casual in between is what I need.

For casual, I live in the Minnetonka Moccasins in natural moosehide or the leather Sperry Topsiders. Always keep a pair and a spare of both of those. I wore dressy shoes, usually with some type of low heel for 32 years at work. No more. (Well, maybe to the symphony or a funeral.)

I have a pair of black fabric Rockports with a steel shank that are at *least* 10 years old. The clunky heel is 1 1/2 inches. These are 'Granny' tie shoes. I've had the heels repaired once. I just put new foam innersoles and jel heels in them. I think they are indestructible.

I am with maymo on this one. I love my skechers! Mine are simular but only have 1 strap.
