My journey continues

It's been some time since I've posted at the KT. Still hanging out at the diet forum.

Just wanted to let my friends know I'm still doing well after my summer depression. I have been referred to a psychiatrist who I really, really like. He is sending me back to 'school' as an outpatient at my local hospital. Taking 2 counseling courses - first one is dealing with anxiety (1 day/week for 10 weeks) and then the second has a 3 month waiting list for cognitive thinking (it has homework)(3 days/week for 18 weeks) and then I return to my psychiatrist to start a possible 2 year course of talking. FINALLY I'm getting great help to deal with things, learn some new skills. Also, I have been advised to think about joining alcoholics anonymous since alcohol is now 'life threatening' for me. I would not have tried to swallow a bottle of pills if I were sober so in that sense drinking, even on occasion, is now a problem for me. I can enjoy an occasional drink but when I am upset and drink for the wrong reasons I turn that inwards at myself and it's destructive.

Never to old to learn. I am writing openly and honestly about my journey to let those who are suffering silently not to give up. My family doctor has been a tremendous help and my husband is very supportive. I'm not giving up on getting better. It's been a lifelong journey that began around the age of 7 with winter depression.

So I won't be returning to office work this winter, I will keep part-time work. Today I'm working in the garden - planting bulbs, cutting it back and I've also returned to a quilt project I started last fall.

I'm feeling great these days.

Thank you for caring so much and being here when I need a hand to hold.

Cheers,

Peggy
