Hey Radiodokkkter!

I had to laugh at your post about when the FCC came to your station and you asked about doing your show with no pants.

Thought I would share my "famous" OOPS with a fellow DJ.

I was planning on playing the song "Fixin to Die Rag" by Country Joe & the Fish on my show. (Check out Country Joe's performance from Woodstock if you don't know the song). I put the CD into the player and I fast-forwarded the first 15 seconds because of the language used. Well, i forgot to hit the pause button and when I hit play what went over the air?????

"Gimmie an F"....if you know the song you know what was said.

I freaked out and started cueing down but the entire 15 seconds went over the airwaves. My DH called me immediately and when I asked him "Did you hear that" he said.....every word.

I didn't get in trouble though. I told my manager the next day what happened and he just laughed and said "Classic".

    Hey samkaren!

Loved your radio story. I'm familiar with the song and have played it on my show...the version that spells FISH...not the version you graced the airwaves with.

I have been nearly fired from my radio gig many times. My station has a playist provided by Broadcast Programming which I largely ignore. "Playlist?...I don't need a stinking playlist".

Several years ago the company general manager was rather upset with me for spinning the looooooooooooong version of Inna Gadda Da Vida (Iron Butterfly) followed by Alice's Restaurant...long version (Arlo Guthrie)

I still have my job....for now....

lol...When I first started I was so nervous about playing something "inappropriate". I worked at a Catholic University. I was afraid to play "More, More, More" by Andrea True Connection.

The head of the radio department was very cool. I told him I wanted to do a 70's and I was not going to play the "eurotrash" that he had in the stations collection. Nor was I going to do "talk radio" because I would not put up with the antics of the freshmen.

He gave me complete control over my show and I never had a problem. In fact my greatest accomplishment was that I interviewed 50 legends of Rock & Roll on my show.

I did have to play those annoying PSA's my first semester but after that I started playing my "annoying jingles" (remember the BrylCream and Texaco commercials?)

If you would like to read the article about my retirement let me know and I will give you the link. It also lists the musicians I've talked to.

Hey...I would like very much to read the story.

I've done numerous interviews since Cool 103.5 went on air in 2001. Norman Greenbaum (was like interviewing Cheech and Chong), Tommy James (very devout Christian), Paul Anka, Neil Sedaka, Greg Hind of the Little River Band, Davis Cassidy, Shirly Jones, Vicki Lawrence Don McLean. Best interview was with 3 Dog Night...They were doing a few shows at a nearby casino and they came to the studio for an hour interview. They were great and that was my 1st interview for the new oldies station.

    Have a great day!!!

I worked for Norman Greenbaum's parents when I was in high school. They owned a fabric shop just north of Boston. Ruth and Bob Green where wonderful people. They were so proud of him. I have his autograph stashed awy somewhere.

    Hey Radiodokkkter
Sorry it's taken me so long to get back to the KT. Just started a new job and can't post as much during the day.

I also interviewed Chuck Negron and Floyd Sneed from 3 Dog Night. I have Norman Greenbaums autograph as well.
