As I told you before I use an electric roaster but the technique is the same. Actually no matter if I use the oven or slow cook them I do *not* boil ribs. There's no need for it and many think you boil some of the flavor out of them. The theory of boiling ribs is to render out some fat. By slow cooking you're already rendering out some of the fat yet keeping some of the flavor fat in there. My favorite ribs are using a dry rub and usually braising with a little beer. Occasionally I'll top with a touch of sauce at the end.

Don't waste your time boiling them IMO.

An old GF too learned that with spareribs - just put them in the crockpot and let them go until they're tender, pull the bones out and you can shred it add some sauce and have a terrific pulled pork.

Oh, and with any ribs, be sure to pull the membrane if it's on there.

Of course, opinions vary so you might want to try both ways. With ribs, you can do them so many different ways and most always it's good eatin'!

I just throw half a bottle of barbeque sauce, a teaspoon of salt in with a rack of babyback pork ribs....set on auto shift(1.5 hrs on high then switches automatically to low). After 6-8 hours the meat is falling off the bone and seasoned. Then you can shred the meat...? or brush with fresh barbeque sauce and brown off in the oven? or spoon off the grease, then thicken the sauce in the crockpot with flour and serve it all over rice?

I do cook my ribs in the slow cooker.
I stand them on their ends around the pot and cook on low so the fat all drains off.

Then I take them out, slip them on a baking sheet and brush them with barbecue sauce and broil for a few minutes to glaze them with the sauce.

I put them in the crock pot with a chopped onion on them. Nothing else. When they are tender, then I put sauce on them. We love them cooked this way.

Oh, reading Cynic's recipe, he reminded me that I forgot to say that I put a dry rub on my ribs first. Then put them in the slow cooker and all the fat renders off.

Broil with barbecue sauce afterwards.

No don't boil them!
I just sprinkle with Lawrey's salt and S&P. About an hour to hour and half before done, I pour the water/juices off and I make my own BBQ sauce and pour over them. If you cook the BBQ sauce too long it burns, so I add it last.
