We had that rug in our other apartment that had hardwood flooring, so we automatically used it here. You gave us something to think about, we'll just roll it up and see if we even want a rug. Didn't think of going rugless! LOL

It would add a punch of colour as our livingroom furniture is also dark browns and burgundies.

All are very nice, but I like the last one best, and I think it would look very nice. I also think it is time less. To me that means it will fit most places and will be good in lots of places over time.

I like the geometric patterned one. It immediately would pick up the red in that lovely vase on your bookcase. A bright accent color does wonders for a room. Is it the same size as your other rug? I've been told that an area rug under a table should be large enough to accommodate the chairs when pulled out all the way.

I like the first one and also hope it's a bit bigger than the tan one. :)

No rug. It doesn't look as though you have enough room for a rug that would extend at least two feet back from the edge of the table (push-back room). I suspect this is why your DH doesn't like it; it gets rucked up by the chair legs.

If the floor is cold, you could carpet that rectangle.

I personally do not care for the first one the other two are better, I like number 2 the best so far. I bet your cats will vote for a rug so they have a nice warm area to curl up on.

The geometric one is 5x8. Our current rug is 5x7. 2 feet wider which is what is needed to have the chairs sit fully would be too big, the whole area would almost be carpeted which would be too much. The 5x8 is a foot longer which doesn't do anything for the chairs.

The floor isn't cold at all........we live on the top floor of a triplex.

I vote no rug also. Never understood why you would put a rug under your dining area. If you want more color and/or pattern I would get a tablecloth or placemats. There are so many beautiful ones.

I like it without too. All I can think of is food falling on the rug, but you and your hubby are probably not as messy as we are. :) You have a lovely home, Sherry.

When seeing that vase on your book shelf I thought a bright burnt orange would be great for there.
The printed ones may be a bit busy, how about a solid Color?
I do like the one with the leaves on it.

Of the 3 I like the 2nd one best, but agree with those that say it's better without a rug, my round table and 4 chairs are on the tile floor, easier cleanup for crumbs or spills...I had a dining room once with carpeting and didn't like it.

I like the first rug for $100.00. The sharp lines pull in the sharp lines of the bookcase and the reds pulls in the reds in the vases top of bookcase. :)

I wouldn't have wanted the rug there, it looked like your table and chairs were balancing on the edge of that rug you had and I would have thought it was just be in the way and getting dirty. It looks a lot better "nude".

Monica, you've got the same floor? It's dimpled and textured?
I use a Bee sponge mop to clean it, and really scrub it. How do you clean yours? I'm not sure I'm getting into all the textured crevices etc.

Yep, I like it without a rug best, but my 2nd choice would be the $30 rug.

Jasdip - Yes, dimpled and faux grout. I use.a Swiffer mop, and my kitchen dining area is about 20 x10 ft.

Thanks Monica. Our floors are exactly the same, so I'll keep scrubbing with my sponge mop. I'm also going to try a microfibre cloth next time.

I have one under a dining room table, which isn't used. Helps the decor. But for your area, getting used a lot, I would say no.

We have a gorgeous tree right outside out windows and our apartment is filled with sunshine. Today was drizzly and cloudy.
The picture window has casements on the sides, and I usually have my burgundy curtains opened as far as they will go to take advantage of the breeze and the sunlight on my large plant in the corner.

The patio door has the typical vertical blinds.

I like your style and colors! I also like rug 3, but rug-less sounds like the best choice for you. :)

Hey, you did a great job of picking rugs.. I like your colors and the first one. Your place is beautiful. The first one adds a pop.

It looks better without a rug and will be easier to keep clean.

KT is the place to increase one's knowledge of tables. I only knew about kitchen, dining, end, lamp, coffee, tea, and step tables. I see *you* have a cat table. (Bud wants you to move it so he can see outside as well as keep an eye on his food dish.)

I think it looks MUCH BETTER with no rug. I, personally, can't stand a rug in a dining area. PITA for crumbs and spills and other nastiness, and even worse trying to get the chairs in and out.

I don't have the best vision, but it looks like a tile floor. Why not remove the rug completely and just have tile underneath the table, which is a contemporary look. Love the look of tile floors.

Shelgal, it's not tile, it's linoleum or something; all in a sheet.
We like it without the rug too now.

Rhizo our apartment is definitely bright and sunny. We just love it. With windows on all 4 sides, there's sun coming in somewhere. I'll have to take a pic of the livingroom on a nice sunny day......probably won't be till next week according to the weatherman.

I would suggest to go for a rug which gives a vintage appearance along with being traditional. Of course the material used should be stain-resistant and anti-fade as well. So going through this thought i would suggest the DePoortere collection of Fading World.

If you go rugless, put pads on the bottoms of the chair legs to protect the flooring and to reduce the scraping, squeeking sound of a chair when it is dragged over the floor. A good pad will make it easier to shift a chair.

Clean up under the table will be much easier without a rug.

I don't have a rug in my dining area. It is so much easier to vacuum or mop without dealing with a rug. Food will always get spilled at some point, even with just adults. I like the fact that I don't have to deal with the stains from that either.

Yes, sheet flooring. We had it installed about 6 years ago, same pattern and it has survived the years without staining or a mark, despite DGD riding her tricycle on it, learning to skate on it, and riding her big stuffed horse on it.

I don't remember the Brand,but it wasn't cheap. This is top of the line sheet flooring.
