I called the factory the other day and was told that the price increase "did not come from us." However, my local dealer, Signature Marketing, and Eurostoves all say that the price will go up June 1. My local dealer said 5 - 7 percent.

These new code additions will certainly be required at some point but in my very limited experience it is the rare jurisdiction that adopts the latest codes. Best to talk to the local building inspector and electrical inspector to determine what code versions are in effect and when/if they plan to adopt the latest versions. On the other hand, many jurisdictions have had stricter building codes that are only just now coming out in the IRC. For example, residential sprinkler systems have been required in new builds in certain counties in MD for at least 4-5 years now. And then you have preferences that are not code but are what the inspector(s) wants to see. Some elec inspectors in MD & NY now want to see 12 ga wiring for all 15A/20A ckts. You can fight it as a non-code rqmt, and even win, but you're asking for trouble. Illogically, my elec inspector wanted 12ga wiring (14ga OK for switch legs) but did not require AFCIs (as rqrd by NEC 2005). Go figure. One counter to david_cary's comment. The IRC, or any code, is a recommendation only until a jurisdiction adopts it. Basically, the only codes that matter are those specified by the local jurisdiction. And I believe compliance is stricter in urban vice rural areas. Just my two cents...

Good Friday evening to everyone! Jan, I'm happy to hear that your nephew is home. I wish him a successful recovery. It sounds like his family is really "there" for him. Keep us updated - and I really mean it! Dee, glad your birthday celebration was so good. Hope you got a lot accomplished working at home today. Hi, Suzanne. Those frozen eyelashes gave me the shivers. Glad to know that your horsey isn't as cold as I thought. Donna, I'm not officially attending WW meetings right now, but I am doing the WW Core plan that was good for me this time last year. Hubby is used to it, and the soups and stews are perfect for this time of the year, even here in humid SE Texas! QOD: Saturday - work out; hopefully go to my friend's for lunch and to pick up a cabinet that she was going to throw away (it will hold lots of stuff!); then clean house and go to dinner with some of our friends, then back here to play Canasta. Sunday - Sunday school and church, then over to my friend's house to do a mailing for the service sorority. OMGosh, I almost forgot the best news: Larry had chemo, and as of today, his dr. is cautiously hopeful that the tumors are already breaking down (based on blood tests of some kind). He's feeling a little better and stronger now and isn't in so much pain. Thank you so much for your good thoughts and prayers for him. His wife sounded cautiously tickled pink in her voice mail today! Dinner tonight will be a surprise that hubby is bringing home!

Good evening, everyone! BJ, I have to ask: does your boss chase you around the desk? LOL Raeanne, welcome back to reality! I overheard a woman at Curves this morning talk about how she's dropped a clothes size since using the Wii Fitness stuff. Keep up the good work! QOD: I just roll out of the bed in the mornings and dress for working out. I don't let myself think otherwise! (There are some exceptions to going straight to Curves though.) I know that it's the best way for me to lose weight and sizes. I had a dr.'s appt. this morning (first thing) to go over my lab results. My numbers weren't too terribly bad after all, but I have a ways to go yet. My dr. was very pleased that I'm doing Curves and TOPS though, so he didn't fuss about my weight today. He's really supportive which is so nice. BJ, I always wear some kind of red hat to the get-togethers. I have a red straw hat and purse, a red felt cowgirl hat, a dressy felt hat, a baseball cap with a Red Hat woman sewn on it, and a sun visor with whatever I think of to put on it. We have to wear some kind of hat to the events, but I can't wait to take them off because I just don't like wearing them! But, I do enjoy mixing and mingling with the members, so it's worth it. My 2 DGDs are coming over Saturday morning for the weekend. They haven't been here since Christmas, and they want to see their Papa and Lucky (doggy). We'll drive them home Sunday afternoon and do some "big-city" shopping while over there. One quick brag: I weighed in 8.7 pounds less at my TOPS meeting on Wednesday. That's two weeks worth of weight loss, but I was so shocked and happy. I'm also back to cooking and eating healthy, so I guess it's working. I'm working on Patti's birthday card this evening. It's so much fun doing it! Wishing everyone a good Friday!

And the best part is...Medicare is not going to take away any of it this year! Usually, our S.S. raise is almost completely wiped out by a Medicare increase.

Mama says every time they give SS a raise, her premium for her MediCare goes up too! Have ya'll noticed that?

Medicare announced a month ago that there will be no increase for 2009.

Patches...the increase was anounced on CNN this morning, and also posted on the Social Security web site...under "news".

Patches, I heard it on the radio news this morning.

It will be well received, but I'm wondering where this $$ will be borrowed from?

Mine will go toward the increases in my heating bill and ComCast.

dept of treasury has been warning all yr that SS has 10 yrs left before going bankrupt, hope that includes this raise otherwise it's less than 10 yrs. ~ liz
