Does anyone have easy access to an IKEA store?

I need something and it's not available online, store only.

It's an unfinished magazine file, wooden. About $5. I need at least 3 and would be thrilled to pay for them plus shipping if anyone could get me some.

Flamey, we don't have an Ikea and the files are certainly cheaper than what I found at Staples. They want $21.00 for them although they are finished but still, that's quite and increase over the Ikea ones. Hope someone lives near an Ikea that can help you get some of those.

Ann T: Last week I made a recipe that called for smoked turkey and some canned pumpkin in a sauce over pasta. They said to sprinkle on seeded pumpkin seeds over the finished dish, if desired. Well, I thought, OK, and went to the regular grocery. (Now that I think about it, maybe a health food store would have offered a better seed.) Bought a bag of pumpkin seeds, but it was ridiculous to try to seed them. So I didn't sprinkle them on the recipe, ans am just eating them as the salty snack they are.

We have a problem with scratching too, but it's because the screw that holds the handle is rough and if we don't fold the center fold of the door first, it hits the neighboring cabinet. I love my corner lazy susan cabs by the way (we used to have deep dark unreachable spaces in the corners) and have 3 now, 2 lower and 1 upper. Everything has been mostly done for 2 weeks but we are waiting for our GC to come in to do all the last 1% of the job so we can call it a FINISHED kitchen! I was going to ask him to cover those screw backs with something - any suggestions? The little bumpers (look like silicon?) that keep the cupboard doors from slamming don't extend far enough to protect from scratching.

I can't tell from your photo exactly what you have, but it appears to be some version of the classic Jenn-Air cooktop (some of which were rebranded as Maytag, Whirlpool, or GE). Your specific model may no longer be manufactured, but they've made the same basic design since the 1960s and the cartridges/modules are interchangable between nearly all of them and remain readily available, so the new burner cartridges fit into most of the old cooktops and vice versa. All of them allow you to remove the grill and replace it with a two-burner module. Some also allow the burners on the right side to be upgraded to a smoothtop radiant module; but on others the burners on the right can't be removed. If you see a rectangular frame around them that's roughtly the size of the grill on the other side, your burners are in a removable cartridge. Lift the front or back of the cartridge and it will lift out. The currently available coil cartridge (JEA700ADB) looks like this: That is what your right side should look like if it's removable; if not, you can still remove the grill on the left side and replace it with one of these, which will match the general appearance of the existing coil burners on the right side. (the grill pops out and will have similar electric pins on the opposide side from the one you pull upward). Or you can upgrade one or maybe both sides to these A122B radiant burners, one 6" and one 8", which look like this: The only cartridges that won't fit are the wider "Expressions" ones with the electric pins on the left or right side of the cartridge rather than the front or back which they now call the "Designer Line" series. Also, if your cooktop is made by Amana it uses a different shape altogether. But most of these cooktops can accept both older and newer replacement cartridges. Used ones (and some new ones) are all over eBay and Craiglist as well. They used to make some styles they no longer sell, including halogen burners (A126 or A126B, my favorites) that turn on and off instantly, soild disk burners, and even induction burners which are hard to find and expensive if you do. Grills and griddles are also available. You just need to verify that the grill cartridge in your cooktop has the four electrical pins at the end (with a fifth unused hole) and that the dimensions are roughly the same. Another issue if you replace the entire cooktop with the Ikea one you linked to is that your existing cooktop has downdraft venting, so unless you also have an exhaust hood over the cooktop, you'll need to add a separate vent hood or a raisable downdraft exhaust behind the cooktop, as the Ikea cooktop doesn't have built-in downdraft venting. Anyway, find the model number (often under the grill cartrdige on a placard, or underneath the entire unit) and then you can be certain which new (or used) cartridges will work with your cooktop. Ditto to Jodi and igloochic. I have the same step stool and I'm very happy with it. I also keep it in my kitchen toekick drawer. It's perfect for my 4 year old to get out himself, easy to set up without too much finger pinching. Easy to clean. Cheap. And my toe kick drawers are much smaller than Jodi's so it just fits in there. I got mine at Ace Hardware and have seen them elsewhere since then (maybe BB&B but don't quote me on that). Speaking of toekick drawers (just as a side, sorry to hijack post)...Do yours work smoothly and fit in the space nicely. I live in an old 1920s house and admittedly, the kitchen is very wonky, but I'm irked with my cabinet maker on many fronts - one of which is that my toekick drawers are very tight and hard to open. Do yours work as smoothly as your regular drawers?

As luck would have it, I am visiting our local Ikea this weekend. My daughter needs some items for her new place. I checked the Conshohocken, Pa store link and it leads me to believe they have some available. If no one beats me to it, I will pick up three, unless you need more.

Kim, that would be wonderful! I will owe you a huge favor. Three would be great, I wouldn't turn down a 4th or even a 5th, I have a need for them. I will be at the Ikea store tomorrow and will update you in the evening. I may need a few hours to recuperate from my visit to Ikea. For those who have never been, it is huge! My Swedish son-in-law said some of the Ikea's in Europe have sleeping quarters for those who travel a great distance to shop.
