I don't eat much with tomatoes actually! Stir fry (chicken with broccoli, snow peas & yellow or red peppers), mac & cheese, homemade burgers, chicken noodle soup, fajitas (chicken, onions, peppers & sour cream), meatballs (you can find lots of sauces that are not tomato based), baked chicken breasts (dozens and dozens of ways of preparing them, go with what you like), etc, etc, etc.

I don't know about diet, but has she tried Ammen's powder? It worked miracles on my daughter's diaper rash when she was a baby.

I had to give up tomatoes, peppers, potatoes, and eggplant some years ago. Adding lemon juice to soups that would normally have contained tomatoes gives the soup a similar tang.

I just made a good stew from turkey legs (cook those first in water and then skim off fat), carrots, celery, parsley, thyme, and barley. Dumplings instead of barley is a nice variation.

Does she like curry? I make mine without tomatoes.

I make a lot of Asian foods with tofu or chicken. Never tomatoes.

My favorite quick stir-fry is small slices of boneless chicken (or tofu), sliced onions, sliced Brussels sprouts, and sliced (or coarsely shredded) cabbage. Add tamari soy sauce (like Kikkoman) or bottled lobster sauce. Serve with rice, rice noodles, or angel hair pasta.

It would help to know what she is picky about. I love tomato based dishes but I can't say that eat them that often compared to non-tomato dishes. I could probably name 100 non-tomato dishes off the top of my head (or from my blog).

Does she like white sauces or gravy? Lots of recipes use those - casseroles, meatballs, salisbury steak. I have an enchilas suizas recipe that isn't too spicy and basically uses a gravy for the sauce.

Stir fries and other Asian dishes rarely use tomato.

Basic grilled, broiled or baked meats. Pot roasts and meat loaves can be made without tomatoes.

I would speak the the childs pediatrician before restricting tomatoes. Tomatoes are full of Vitamin C and antioxidants. Both my kids were on breast milk only at 6 weeks. I didn't give them solid food or even baby foods until about 6 months.

If restricting tomatoes doesn't help, she might want to try cutting out sugary foods and bread and using a antifungal cream on Jackson. Many diaper rashes are due to Candida Albicans.. I've seen stubborn rashes go away after just a couple applications of the antifungals.

Just prepare the dishes without tomatoes..make spaghetti and meatballs with a little butter intstead of red sauce... use mustard or mayo on a hamburger... don't add the salsa to a taco... keep tomatoes out of stews, keep them out of salads..don't drink a V-8. It should be fairly easy to keep them out of a diet if you need to. Generally white meats and fish don't go all that well with tomatoes anyway... so focus on turkey, fish, chicken, pork, etc... make rice, green veggies, potatoes, pasta salads...

Picky...well there isn't one thing that she is picky with, just not a very adventuresome eater.

Fran...Dr. do not want powders used. ? I was told not to use them as I have lung problems. I did try corn starch with Kalie's diaper rash yearsssss ago.

Lydia...he has been on antifungal...two types, started with weaker and now a stronger one. Hoping to figure it out soon! She doesn't eat very many sugary foods, actually.

I think she will adjust quickly. I know from dealing with food allergies and suspected food allergies with my boys that it ends up being easier that you would think to avoid most foods, especially if you think about giving up foods like dairy, wheat, soy and corn which are in so many food products.

There are certainly lots of unadventurous but delicious foods that don't include tomatoes.

Has she tried switching diapers? Is she using cloth or disposable? I've heard lots of complaints about Pampers and rashes.

Years ago, a friend of mine was told to use "burnt" corn starch" so she baked it in the oven until it was slightly brown. And it worked!!! Can't tell you what temp as this was in the 50's and I really wasn't into family life etc.
Also did you try Gold Bond products? or the udder balm==not sure of spelling. He may be allgeric to the diapers. Try cloth for a bit. I wish you the best.

lol We dont' use ketchup on anything other than

Yes, she has changed diapers, ointments, soaps and such before going to Dr. She did say that she thinks it is a bit better from the latest ointment from the Dr. She is letting him lay in the bathtub on a blanket and a blanket on top with a bare bottom to give him some 'air time'. She reads to him until he falls asleep in there! Kalie took most of her naps without diapers when she was little...but there is a difference with boys and girls with doing that! LOL

What a sweet picture! This is a second post, add to my first. I came in strong recommending breast milk. I do remember both my second child and I got Candida yeast infections shortly after her birth. I took anti-fungal pills prescribed by my doctor. And for baby I used a thick diaper ointment with Zinc in it. Can't remember the name biut it's definitely OTC. Also, anything the mother consumes will be passed onto baby thru her milk. So make sure The New Mom cuts out caffeine, tomatoes, etc. herself. Good luck! Hope this advice helps!

Somewhere I read that the OTC meds for vaginal infections is good for diaper rash, Mycostatin I think is one.

Try the roast beef, chicken baked or fried or chicken and dumplings, pork chops, beef or chicken soups,burgers etc...plain foods. Heck we even have breakfast some days!

Sayman salve saved my babies butts when the kids were younger here. I'd give them a bath and put it on before bed and by morning their rashes were SO much better. Almost healed. I told DSIL about it her babies had almost blistered butts at times! Let Jackson lay in the sun a little bit with out his diaper too.

See if you can find Resinol ..it is a miracle worker when it comes to diaper rash. I had never heard of it until I had my daughter 18 years ago. She had horrible horrible diaper rash. My step father was a truck driver and had a jar of this in his kit..It was wonderful!!! I never used any of that other stuff again.

I have 4 little ones and all have had both thrush and yeast rashes, my 2 yr old is fighting one now. One thing is if the baby will take a bottle, our pediatrician recommended opening a capsule of a prebiotic (like acidophilus) in the bottle at each feeding. One thing that works and makes babies comfortable is putting plain yougurt straight on the babies bottom, nice and cool and it helps cure the rash. Hope these ideas can be of some help.

I gave my daughter awful diaper rashes because she was born just as my tomatoes were ripening and then a few people brought me chocolates. Much later I read that nursing moms eating tomatoes and chocolate cause diaper rashes. DDs pediatrician recommended Aquaphor(sp?)with each diaper change, and it is all that DD uses now.

The only thing I can think of is to encourage Jackson to drink water. That will dilute whatever is causing the rash.

My DM always reminded us when we had babies to be sure they had water to drink, whether you were nursing or using formula.

Dr. (at least Kalie's) do not want babies to have water! I fed my kids water too! Crazy how our kids ever lived through their childhood with all the things they are NOT suppose to do now. :/

Linda...no, she doesn't go back to work until the 8th of Dec....and possibly not until after the first of the year. She had saved up alot of PTO, and also money to pay the bills she needs to while not working! She does have to go in 1 day a month for her PTO/insurance, so I will be down watching Jackson a day in each month. :)

Some of the baby doctors here are saying no water either, buy both my Gd's did give them a little each day. And one is a LPN. It seemed to make a difference.

Sandy...is the little one in cloth or those throw away diapers?

If its the Pampers,or whatever,that could easily be the culprit too...my first couldnt wear them at all.

Also,something that can help,is straight yogurt....no fruit,just plain yogurt,applied to the little ones bottom and to the Moms breasts in lieu of a cream or ointment

I don't see what eating tomatoes has to do with the breast milk. Kalie's digestive track digests the tomatoes. Her body and hormones produce the milk. It's a fallacy to believe that breast milk is made up of all the components of a mother's diet. Breast milk takes it's nutrition from mom not the contents of her stomach.

I also breast fed exclusively for the first six months, Nursed DD for two years and DS into his 3rd year. The no water thing is to keep rubber nipples away from infants so they don't get lazy and refuse to nurse and to avoid filling their tummies with water instead of nutritional breast milk.

I would look to the diapers being used, the laundering methods or the brand of disposables. it could be the wet wipes or the detergent used to wash the wash cloths if she's using those. If he's a good sleeper maybe he's staying wet too long if no one checks.

I don't know anything about the menu side of the question, but...

I knew a young mother who's baby daughter had a severe diaper rash for 2months. Then they discovered she had a topical yeast infection from taking some anti-biotics (it killed the good "bugs" in her system). A weekend of ladies' yeast-infection-cream, A Monday Dr.'s visit, & 1 pill and the rash went away. Good Luck. l.marie
