My work area is as narrow as building codes would allow. It gives me the close support I need all around me as I prepare meals. Notice my choice of two different cooking surfaces. Coil and glass top burners.

Everyone's kitchens look so nice and homey!!!
Gazania, what's the advantage of the coil and glass top....except that you can slide cast iron pots around on the coils. I've never seen or heard of a stove like that. Which do you use more?

Jasdip, the advantage to me was when I was in the market for a downdraft type stove I found that the standard was for them to have a grill on one side and the glass burners on the other. Glass burners work best with flat bottomed pans. I had/have several favorite old pans that arent flat.
I learned that the coil burners could be ordered seperately and since I really didn't have much interest in the grilling part of it, I could have the best of both worlds. I use the two types probably equally. I still have some cast iron frying pans, but because of weight, I rarely use them. But there are certain things that are just 'better' cooked in them. Home fries comes to mind.

I knew if I opened this post I would be GREEN WITH KITCHEN ENVY and I am...but it's ok...cause I'm not that good of a cook and we don't spend all that much time in there...we have done nothing but fix this house up since we moved here in 2005 and hubster would scream if I mentioned redoing the kitchen...the economy wont allow us to sell so i'm working with what I got...this was before and after a redo in 2007...

This was after I gave it a paintjob and added some wallpaper by the eating area...got a new dishwasher and a new sink/faucet..and a new light over the stove and a black tablecloth since this pic was taken...I could have so much fun if I could just gut it and start over! (scuse the trashcan...we had to velcro it close...Abby gets in the trash...bad girl!) I'd love to paint my cabinets black but it's already waay tooo dark in there!!

I'm getting ready to replace the flooring since half of it is missing because of the flood of July,10...it'll be done by next month...YEEE HAA!!

I just love all your kitchens!!...schoolhouse your kitchen reminds me so much of ours on the farm when I was a little girl...

Any pictures of my present kitchen were made at a holiday, birthday or so forth, so they are all messy.

These pictures are our home when DH was living. I wish I had taken more.

Except for the Painting, I did the changes myself., including the papering, tearing out the pantry walls (got DH to help with paneling, and a friend did the plumbing.)

We just got a new house, so I'm exited to share with you guys! Our house has been completely remodeled, like a flipped house, because the woman who lived her before was a renter and when she was evicted she destroyed everything in the house. So here's my kitchen. I love, love, love it! The dishwasher came with the house, so it doesn't match the stove and fridge we bought, but that's ok, I'm just grateful to have a dishwasher for the first time in my life!

It is very hard to get a pic of entire kitchen

How weird rosemaryt, that kitchen is almost exactly my kitchen except the oven and cook top are reversed. My cabinets have a decorative trim on the face of each door. Built in 1959.

I need to clean my kitchen up, there's a huge turkey fryer on the island now and a bigger microwave. I kinda like the way the kitchen used to look, the old color too.

The kitchens all look so welcoming, the type of place that our kitchen table would fit into perfectly!

I will be replacing the range one day soon, this one is a real lemon. Kitchen Aid should have stuck with mixers! I have wanted a Jennair for a long time, I will get it this time. My BFF had a commercial grade Wolfe, he loved it but getting it repaired was an issue so when they remodeled the kitchen he replaced it.

Yes jasdip, I have posted them to the kitchens forum blog before and maybe(?)on here.

Bigbaby and I live in the house I grew up in. It's a 1960's rambler on a farm. Dad and Mom built it. Mom wanted a kitchen where she could feed a large farm crew. The old oak table in the foreground expands to 8 feet long when needed and can seat 12; more if you don't mind knocking elbows occasioanally.

ronf and bigbaby, I love love love that kitchen! I'd give my eye teeth to have a big honkin' kitchen like that. I'm not into all that tear it out and put in new/granite/stainless etc etc.

Thanks Jasdip. It is a 100 year old house; hence the oversize windows. And yes, I have fur kids (how could you tell?) IMO, cats and kitchens go together.

I've enjoyed seeing everyone's kitchen, thinking that would be a good spot to have some coffee or tea. I don't contribute much picture wise and it shows from looking at the KT home site. Thought I would change that and add my kitchen here. Should have turned some lights on, kind of dark.

It's a remodel from several years back. We took a bedroom wall out and put our kitchen in there. Not the way I would want my forever kitchen but I think that's what it is for now. Last week I put up the garland I put up for Christmas but couldn't get myself to put the ornaments that go up there too. Maybe in a couple weeks when I get dh to help me hall the holiday totes from the basement.
We pretty much did MOST of the remodel ourselves and it still isn't done but it's functional and will do fine for now. Hopefully I can change out the emergency sink (as I call it) and update some of the old appliances in a year or two.
I would love to have some Kters over for dinner next year also.

Marita..I have soapstone too and love it. I have a huge soapstone sink with no divider. Love it. I put all my ivy and ferns in there once a week and wash them off.

Marita, I love the furkids!!! You are right, they do belong with the kitches, they too are the heart of the household!

What I love about this post is everyone loves their kitchen whether it is big or small, fancied up or bare bones. You love where you live and are proud to show it off. "This is MY home." Cozy feelings abound. I feel the same way. When I learn to use the bucket I will put a picture or two in.

Liz, I don't know whay I thought it was so funny... but I love the picture of your dog by the taped shut trash can! (I think one day when you least expect it, she may figure out how to get that tape off)

I simply can not show you my sad kitchen. It is still scheduled for updating (total rip out and fire bomb!) but it must wait until I mentally recover from the living room fiasco!

Here's a photo of my husband's "outdoor kitchen!" LOL He does a lot of day trip and weekend-long bush craft type mountain man, pre-1750 living. If the temps are below zero he says it's even more fun.

He always takes coffee and "something" to eat. The tilted skillet has bannock bread "baking" in it. There's stew in the pot.

Here's the north west side of my kitchen. I was very ill for a while; a friend came over to help me finish clean all the cabinets.

How this for a conglomeration of "stuff" from the cabinets.

The yellow paper taped to the inside door of the pantry cabinet is my road map. I keep a list of items that are kept in the far back of the cabinet.

Some day I won't have a phone line strung across walls, over doors, and along back splashes to reach the phone.

All the brooms and mops hung on the wall? Their new home will be in the living room / broom closet ... if it's ever finished.
