LOL PURCHASED: The London Bridge was purchased on April 18, 1968 for a bid of $2,460,000 from the City of London by Robert P. McCulloch, Sr., founder of Lake Havasu City. ANTIQUE: To avoid taxation, the Bridge was declared an antique and has been identified as the worldÂs largest antique by the Guinness Book of Records. SHIPPED: The 22 million pounds of granite (10,276 pieces) was shipped from London through the Panama Canal to Long Beach, California, and then trucked to Lake Havasu, a 10,000 mile journey. RECONSTRUCTION: Total reconstruction time was three years, from the laying of the cornerstone (September 1968) to dedication (October 1971). McConnells Mill State Park, Pennsylvania. Popular with hikers for it's rugged trails through the rocks and sheer drop offs down to the river. This beautiful weekend will almost certainly bring about the need for a rescue or two from the rocks by emergency personnel.

Susan, like I tell Bigbaby, "We all do what we can." When the kids were little and I lived in the mountains of New Mexico we'd go for hikes. At times it was frustrating because I'm the kind of guy that always wants to see what's over the next hill and what's around the next bend in the river. The kids would get tired out before me. Now, we go out backpacking and they're in their prime and I'm the "old man" holding them back. When were our abilities equal?? It must have been one rainy weekend in October of 1998 and I missed it!
