Get together at Lynn d's house (pics)

October 1st Murraysmom and I left Donna OH's house and drove to Lynn's house in Pennsylvania. Gazania and her husband live about 75 miles away and made the trip to meet with us. I had met Gazania a few years ago at my Dad's in Florida so it was nice to get to see her again.

It was a rainy day, Lynn had a nice homemade soup and sandwiches all ready for lunch. We sat around the dining room table and just talked, laughed and had a good time. It's amazing how people who have never met can feel like they have known each other forever. That is exactly what it is like when you meet friends from the KT.

Lynn's husband deep fried a turkey for dinner and it was delicious. Lynn also made a casserole with cauliflower that was wonderful. She has promised to send me the recipes.

Beth and I spent the night and had breakfast the next morning. Just before breakfast we were looking out the window and it was snowing!! After eating we had to say goodbye so we could head out for Wanda VA's house.

Thank you so much Lynn for inviting us into your home. We had a great time and wish we could have stayed longer. I promise I will work on Mike to take a trip with the motor home and come for another visit.

How fun! I myself have never met anyone from the KT or any other internet friends I've made. Hope to someday!

Nita, that pic of me is testiment to what a fun time we had at Lynn's. In all my life I don't recall any other pic of me laughing. When a camera is present, I always clam up. I also thank Lynn for her generous hospitality...and Nita for instigating this meeting of KT friends. When that motor home trip comes up...We have lots of room to park it.

johnatemp, ty so much for the tips. I'm going to copy this and save for DH. He'll need all the help he can get when coming time to paint :) kmc, I really do love the antique what. I just wonder what it'd look like with my bright white trim. rose, I'd love if lowes or someone here would offer making us a template, but I asked. They said they'd only do that if THEY were installing. I even offered to pay them to come double check measurements, and they said nope. I did find a local company yesterday. They claim the starting price for their laminate WITH install is $8.50. Goes up to $9 something, depending on the edge. And just $6.50, if I wanted them to just slap some new laminate on my existing counter tops. I actually talked to two smaller companys, both were about the same. Sooo..we'll see what kind of estimate I get. Both are coming out next wk. I just know I don't want to pay the $1400 for laminate that Lowes priced us at. And I know painting the cabs may be a turn off for some. But, I can't live with them any more. I really can't, lol. I've consulted my realtor, as well. She knows the area, the neighborhood, the block, my house AND my cabs, lol. And she says go for it. She thinks if I can pull it off, it'll only help set ourselves apart from the rest of cookie cutter land :)

Hey Anj, The job's going well - sorry I haven't had a chance to get back on here before now. I've pretty much been working everyday - most days only 4 or 5 hours - but it's been from 10am - 2pm, or 10-3, which kinda shoots your whole day. By the time I get the kids off to school and clean a little, it's time to go to work. Then when I get home, the kids are here shortly afterwards and it's time to do homework and get dinner fixed. I am working some weekends, yesterday was one of my long days (9-6), but thankfully I'm off today, kids are gone to school and DH is at work, so at least I'll have a little peace and quiet, although most of my day will be cleaning house and running errands!!LOL I really need to try and finish up a couple of these fall/Halloween projects and get them listed today, too. My only other day off this week is Wed. and it's wrapped up with dentist app'ts. Otherwise, the job itself is pretty enjoyable and most of the people are nice. We had a pretty sad incident here Saturday evening, that I just found out about at work yesterday. Our Wal-mart is in the shopping center right next to the grocery store I work at. Apparently, a local gentleman had been in a very bad work related accident within the last year and was finally recovering from it, his family really having suffered financial hardship due to his being unemployed, fighting with the employer over medical bills/compensation, etc. They said he was at the checkout in Wal-mart, had a massive heart attack and passed away right there. I just feel terrible for the family - that's got to be tough. DH said whatever I did, I just better never let him die in Wal-mart - he despises the place! Anyway, how's everything going with you? Don't your kids start school this week? Whatever will you do with yourself? -LOL- I'll try to get back here soon, but for today, I've got to get busy!! Oh yeah, if I can get this stuff finished and listed today - I'll at least try to get links on here so you can see the cauldron, etc. - it turned out really neat. Take care, Lynn

Okay, you can all come down for margaritas on the screen porch! The house is in RI and it's about 1-1/2 hours from our primary house. We had another house in the same area for about 4-5 years and then sold it and bought this one 3 years ago. We are very fortunate because we have a big yard (lots of wiffle ball games) and we're about 4 blocks from the beach. And now, we have water views from almost every window! Previously, the second floor was really tiny and the windows were small so you hardly knew we were near the water. Thanks for all the kind words! I really have to pinch myself because I never thought we'd have anything like this.

Thanks again everyone, I really appreciate you taking the time to look and your kind comments. Kitchen Detective .. I'm very, very sorry about your hen, I hope she comes home!! Linderhof1208 .. they are Annabelles. I think they probably aren't getting enough light with the huge maple trees we have in our front yard. I figure I'll give them a couple more years, then relocate if I need to. I'm crossing my fingers it works out, they are getting so big and so pretty. Flyleft .. I'd love to relocate to the NC mountains, we spend a lot of time there camping. When the girls are grown and in college my DH and I will probably build a cabin up there. I can understand what you are saying .. it was hard for me to move to NC at first. It was totally different from where we grew up. We moved to a very small southern town where things don't change much and there is not a lot of 'outsiders' moving in. We had very small children, my DH was starting a business and working all the time, we had no family down here# We bought the last ugly house in a pretty neighborhood. I kept telling myself .. this is it, bloom where your planted, ect. Year by year it became easier, with a lot of work we made a home here. The kids grew, do wonderful in school and have loads of friends. I think I grew a lot as a person for it, but it wasn't easy! *LOL* Newdawn, I love Asheville and Boone too! This is what the house originally looked like. It had so many years of crackled paint layered on it we spend a whole summer stripping the wood clapboard siding. One loooooooong, very hot summer sitting on scaffolding in the NC sun, thought I'd die! *LOL* scraping : The first go round on the outside of the house was a 'cheap and cheerful' update, plus we had to fix things that had been left to rot. This allowed us to go inside as address basicalyl every room. The original windows could not be saved and we had to cut down the front columns and build boxes under them .. I'm surprised they were still supporting the roof of the porch. After a good portion of the inside was done, which was a mess in it's self .. it allowed us to do the recent update and put some of the original details back on the house, and also some new .. like new shakes in the same pattern as the original shakes, new straight columns like the original, the original front door. We also put in a brick walk to match the brick patio. As far as the inside .. it was a mess too! Things like this : Went to this .. well after a lot of work! *LOL* From this : To this :

Beautiful group of ladies! KT get togethers are so much fun. I thought those cats to the right were real for a minute.. I'm guessing they are painted on a large rock?

Margaret, I was so thrilled with that picture of you. It is the only one I have where you are smiling. You have such a pretty smile. We just might show up some day and will definitely take you up on the offer. I know Mike and Bill would have lots of things in common to talk about.

Thanks for posting this, Nita! I really enjoyed the day even tho we were locked in the house because of the cold, wet weather! I had hoped that we would be able to do a fast tour of the area but that just didn't work so now you MUST return!

Lydia, yes, that is a picture of 3 of your past loves, Timothy (our first maine coon), Tiffany (aka the Princess) and Spookster (born on Halloween) on a large rock. We adopted Spooky when his mom went into a senior facility, he was a great fella and lived with us until he was 23! A friend of ours had that done for us one year.

Margaret, I'm glad you had fun and I'm so glad Bill stuck it out instead of going to the tool store, we really enjoyed chatting with him!

Nita, I too wish you had stayed a few days, I really loved meeting you and Beth and really treasure every minute we had.

That picture in front of the fireplace is so great! I just love seeing pictures of Nita's road trips! From Gazania's great smile, I'd say that 75 mile ride was well worth it.

I am totally in love with the "sprig"(?) above Nita's head. It would go great in my living room!

What a great experience that must have been for you ladies. I go on the Quilt Forum every day and a group of us have started holding a quilt retreat every year in the mountains of North Carolina. This was our fifth year and we had 14 people in attendance from the quilt forum. It was great...like a big old family reunion for some of us who have been every year.
