My friend called me today to tell me about something that happened to his dad (Eric) last week.They had gone to Mexico for her brother's wedding.She (Brandi) didn't really want to go and kept trying to find an excuse not to.He told her they didn't have to go that everyone would understand but she felt they should because it was her brother.Even after they boarded the plane he still wasn't sure she wouldn't back out.They had left the new baby with his parents,another reason she was hesitant about going.Anyway,they got to the motel in Mexico,I'm not sure where in Mexico,some resort place,and went up to their Room.They were talking and Eric walking around checking out the room.He opened the doors to the balcony and stepped out,still carrying on a conversation with Brandi.He turned to say something to her and leaned back on the rail and it broke! He fell 3 stories! It had been raining and the spot where he fell was mud.They said there was an indention of his body in the mud.He broke his arm and both ankles and had bruises but he is alive.The doctors there wanted to operate but they refused,because it was Mexico I guess and you never know.Anyway,they luckily got a flight out the next morning back home and he underwent surgery for the broken bones.As far as we know he is doing OK.So again,keep this family and especially Eric in your prayers.

WOW....they sure have been getting hit with bad things...

Sure hope this is the end of it...

Wow. How awful. Thank god he is alive after a fall like that.

The one part of the story I do not understand is where you said "The doctors there wanted to operate but they refused, because it was Mexico I guess and you never know."

Hi Beth, I'm up the coast by LAX. My biggest problem year-round is mildew and I've been culling, er, 'losing through attrition' the ones that are the worst. Rust is annoying because it defoliates, but mildew, in my experience anyway, eventually kills roses. I fear many of yours will have a problem with it so I'd start thinking what to do about it now. Speaking for myself, side from the environmental concerns I have finally admitted that I am not disciplined enough to spray. Now I've gotten into OGRs, fwiw. Of the ones you have... Disneyland - bullet proof, great little rose Gemini - pretty blooms which make me keep it (for now) but really struggles with mildew Olympiad - very disease resistant in the ground, HOWEVER, others didn't like being in a pot where they struggled and died from mildew. Love - had it a long time ago, may mildew Voodoo - loved it a lot, twice. If you're jonesing for orange, you might try Perfect Moment, mildews a bit but doesn't mind too much. Marmalade Skies is not as dark as Voodoo and a flori, but 'bout bullet proof. I think there are some other new oranges. I'd sure ask here so you won't be disappointed if you want orange or lavender colors. Henry Fonda - not on your list, but the most glorious *non-fading* bright yellow with frilly petals, the DH's favorite. Traviata - mine is the little engine that can. Some folks don't care for it because it doesn't smell, but I like the blooms and admire greatly it's complete resistance to mildew & rust. It did get defoliated by anthracnose a couple of months ago but you wouldn't know it today. Very upright. Lastly, you need to look up Grandmother's Hat (hybrid perpetual, Jeri's favorite, divine smell) and Golden Celebration (yellow Austin, also great smell) using the search engine here and on the Antique forum. You absolutely can't do wrong with either, I think you'll love the pics but will swoon over the fragrances.

He is still mine. Dottie it is only 7 seconds long - maybe try it late at night or early in the morning. Sorry the vid is so short - yes Banjo is barely horse size and he is short too. The trainer is tall though. He has been crabby since he has moved. Hope he soon gets in better spirits. Kathy

Oh, that is encouraging news! The little sweetheart is trying his best to be a good big brother. Xiola just had her checkup. She is at the 50th percentile in weight and appears to be normal in development. She'll have her developmental checkup in 6 months and they'll know more. Sometimes these kids that were born with problems stop their mental and other development around her age, but she seems to be progressing well. I don't know if I told you the story, but the other day my sister went out to eat with Xiola and her mom. She wasn't eating, and her grandma tried encouraging her to take a bite. She refused and said "No, grandma. I full of baloney" Then she reached over and rubbed grandma's tummy and said, "Grandma, you full of baloney too?". What a funny little character! Snuggles, kisses and prayers for our Alex and his little sister.

dilly they may have read the story about insurance coverage in usa not being covered when you get health care elsewhere and need follow up care, as ths gentleman would have had to do. doctors are relunctant to take the responsibility of another surgeon's work...

it happen here when my mother fell, and broke her shoulder. we had to send her home to nevada, from mi! the ortho guy here wouldn't "do" the surgery...

Susan,thanks for the explanation for Dilly Dally.That was the reason,plus I think there has been so much controversy about out of the country health care they were afraid to risk anything.

MY BIL from Virginia went to Canada 2 years ago to fish or hunt or something like that.The 2nd day there he had an aneurysm,and ended up in the hospital there for a few weeks.He said he had the best of care,and the hospital even made arrangements for him to fly home.They said he couldn't go by car.His DD had taken the bus up to Canada and she drove his car back.She had stayed up there with him for most of his hospital stay.He said his insurance covered every penny of his surgery and hospital stay.

He has nothing but praise for Canadian hospitals,and dr's.

my mother (bless her, wouldn't use a cane) and fell again, this time on board a cruise ship and was put off in costa rica...the care she recieved there was excellent, and in many respects i wish i hadn't pushed so hard to get her home, as she was treated so much better there (possibilly because the town she was taken to had an "american colony" and lots of elders)

it's a big difference to be in an actual city vs resort setting...
