Definitely see the eye doctor. Hopefully it will be an Optical Migraine (think that's what it's called.) and nothing to worry about.

Do you have an ophthalmologist? If so, call now, even if it's late.
Your symptoms indicate the need to be seen soon.

I hope you can get in to be seen and hope they let you drive on Thursday.

And Terry knew you loved her and she would want you to take good care of yourself! I hope your eye is going to be OK, but better to play it safe now.

I've had retinal detachments in both eyes. They were both treated as an emergency. (They were six months apart) In the first one, I experienced signs similar to yours and thought it was something that would go away. The next morning, I woke up and could only see a tiny SLIT of vision in the affected eye. Both times they were too far gone to repair with a laser. I had to undergo what is called a VITRECTOMY. Not fun. Both of mine were in 1991, so they may have better ways to "fix" them now. But Do get in to see the doctor ASAP.

When I was 50 and still playing softball...I was the catcher...I took a foul tip ball directly in the eye....

If I moved my head from side to side very fast I would get parentheses of light flashes on both sides of my eye...

Also had a large gray area in the middle of my eye shaped like Australia , it seemed to float out in front of my eye.

Scared me....but I didn't go at the time to have it checked...stupid of me...I know....I'm just like that.

Anyway the next time I went in to have my eyes checked I had her look at it then...She didn't see anything wrong.

Sometimes in the dark if I shake my head I will still see the lights...

But I go once a year to have them checked. I am now 63 and have 20/25 vision in that eye.

I hope yours will be something like mine and heal....

Have you been rubbing your eye a little too hard maybe?

Susan - I've had floater problems for years, and a bleeder 2 years ago. It was treated as an emergency THAT DAY by an opthalmologist and after an extensive examination, he sent me to a retinologist for a confirmation that the retina wasn't in danger. Now I see the opthalmologist once a year for a complete exam of the eye. Please don't wait - go to the ER if you can't get to see an opthalmologist right away.

Good morning! After starting this thread last night I found I was way too tired to do anything more than trudge up the stairs to bed. I'd been out all evening, running errands and attending a board meeting of my writers group, and I was beat.

Of course, I was half hoping my eye symptoms would be gone by morning. The big clump of floaters seems to be gone, but the "lightning flashes" are still there.

It's been about five years since I last saw the opthamologist, but I'll call his office and hope I'm still in the computer.

I'm using the public computers at the Boston Public Library to check in to my e mail and the KT. And we're only allowed 15 minutes access at a time. So what do I find? You've been attacked by another bizarre malady! I sure hope the eye doctor will see you today and please let us know what's happening.

Good news!!! The doctor found no retinal damage. She said what happened can occur from stress and crying, which certainly describes the past week. The doctor said to call immediately, day or night, if I see a grey or black curtain coming down or across my eye.

I spoke to one of Terry's daughters right after I left the doctor's office, and she said her sister had to go to the eye doctor, too. She was diagnosed with a corneal ulcerâÂ"and her doctor said it was from stress and crying. I guess we know thtat stress can be wicked.

I'm so glad to be able to drive tomorrow.

Speaking of stress!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I get "visual" migraines a lot. No pain, just the twirly things for several minutes. Opthalmologist said stress will cause them and as long as there is no pain, not to worry. Used to get the real thing in my teens and early 20s, but they finally went away (as did the causes).
