Our local that has been here as long as I can remember has cut back to 3 days a week, starting October.

I stopped home delivery long time ago.

Yup, two papers. I can write on the puzzles, and use yesterday's puppy in the parakeet cage. And I use some of the coupons and read the ads. We recycle all the papers afterwards.

I read the state paper seven days a week and have it delivered to my home. I read our daily paper five days a week. It'a delivered, also. I also read Des Arc's weekly paper, The White River Journal once a week. It comes by mail usually a couple of days after it comes off the press.

I am definitely a paper reader! Always have been.

True, meter readings can definitely be in error, but keep in mind that these errors are not going to cost you any money in the long run. In the case of your water bill, for example, your bill for water usage the next month would have been zero because the meter reading still probably would not have come up to the figure they erroneously recorded on the previous month's bill. The same would be true of gas and electric meters. (There may still be a monthly service fee you pay, so the bill wouldn't actually be zero, but you'd pay that anyhow. The bill for your actual usage will be zero.) However, some people may object to "lending" the utility company money in the form of paying a big bill this month, even though that money is going to be paid back to them over the next few months in the forms of very low or non-existent bills. These people can simply do as you did and read the meter themselves if they get an overly high bill, and the utility company will make the appropriate adjustment.

In my new home, I have a housekeeper come every other week. I like clean homes. I do NOT like the actual job of cleaning them. I'd rather work in the garden, or do some cooking, or deal with the chickens, or keep up with physical maintenance and house painting/staining, or do graphic arts or anything else. I'm fine with doing laundry, too. I clean up after myself in the kitchen, but the housekeeper does floors, bathrooms and general dusting/windows and such. And I now have a robot vacuum who is pretty decent at what he does. He even has a name: Sharkey. I'm not crazy about cleaning his filter, but it comes with the territory and lasts five minutes... I didn't have a housekeeper back at my old CT home. One reason my getting out of there and getting the place on the market is taking so long... especially since I then had a full time job that lasted well over the standard 40 hour work week. THIS one will be clean! But it doesn't need to be anally-House Beautiful clean. Simply lived in and tidy. My reasons for not wanting a fully white kitchen or other rooms are not about appearing clean, but about my just only wanting white as an accent. Aesthetically. That's what works for my sense of eye appeal.

Family, friends and neighbors teased me about being a "prepper" because I raise our own beef and chicken, have a big garden and like to can. They are now oddly quiet about it, LOL. They've also become strangely silent about my "labor intensive" home grown shelled and dried beans. Yeah.... I plan meals around what produce is in the refrigerator that needs to be used, how many eggs the chickens laid today, whether I've unearthed a couple of packages of venison from last year, what I need to cook for my 84 year old Mother, I cook meals and "deliver" them weekly. Tonight I made chicken and noodles for Mother, a batch of cabbage rolls, some deviled eggs, broccoli cheese soup and dark chocolate raspberry muffins. Elery and I had chili and I put every vegetable in the refrigerator that needed to be used in it, as I always do with chili. Tonight it was carrots, celery, onion, butternut squash, corn, two kinds of beans, a couple of quarts of home canned tomatoes and half a jar of salsa from the fridge. I should have made homemade tortillas, but instead I canned chicken stock because I "found" a couple of chicken carcasses from past roast chicken meals. Naturegirl, I have already started the hot peppers and I have my lights set up and seeds and soil ready to go, I'm going to start tomatoes, eggplant, sweet peppers, cabbage, cauliflower and broccoli next week sometime. Elery and I are building removable "hoop houses" for the tops of two raised beds that just don't get enough sun for strawberries and I'm going to plant some spinach, lettuces and mizuna, maybe some bok choi, gotta get my head start on gardening before my 100 strawberry plants and 3 sweet cherry trees arrive! I have several in my home, and am working on the vignette on the mantle, but not satisfied with that one, yet. But here, in the kitchen: A half log attached to the wall with a tea set, a Greek-style vase, a blown glass glass, and some little critters you find at Tractor Supply/Agway. PS the main chicken coop has its own little vignette with chickens and a dinosaur up on a ledge. I glued those down. In the dining room, I have the following - from a distance, and just the sideboard itself. The duck is a wood decoy someone gave me, the watercolor came from the Bethlehem Fair a couple years back, The ceramic cat I painted and fired, The little boy is my great nephew (about a year ago). Finally, the hallway's terminal point. Colors are bad in this shot. The base color for much (not all) of my house is SW Canvas Tan, a warm off-white with no blues or purples in it. It is really a light canvas color! The oil painting my parents once had is more vibrant, too. At any rate, I was buying furniture at the stain-it-yourself place back in Connecticut for my move up here, and I saw that wood shelf. Had to have! The two outside pieces were once my parents', and the wood Buddha cat and the jade Buddha were gifts. I am waiting for a bit more sun, then I will see if I can get a good shot or two of my living room breakfront.

It's embarrassing to admit, but I read the paper online, for free. Actually 2 papers--the one where we live now, and the one where we lived before.

Why embarrassing? The only time I buy a paper is when I have a column in it. Yes, I'm a stringer for the local paper. And SHOULD buy one every day--but I just hate the mess having newspaper pages floating around the house make. (hanging head in shame).

Azzalea, many papers are now turning to being available online only to paid subscribers. I have a subscription to our local paper so with a password and recognized email, I can read it online. If I want to check weather conditions or something in my mothers town two hours from here, I can access her paper online 15 times a month, after that I need a subscription to her paper.

Ours comes only 6 days a week, we haven't had a paper printed or delivered on Mondays for about a year. I don't have a subscription to the Seattle Times, but I do read that paper almost every day, my BIL hands me his, or I read it online, or I pick one up at the store.

I read many online papers. I only buy the Sunday edition in paper form (on Saturday) to get the coupons. The rest I recycle.

No we do not take the paper, my husband does not like to read, so we have never taken it at least not for decades.

Our paper next year will be three days a week. I am already getting it three days instead of the seven I've gotten it for decades.. I have always read a daily newspaper but now it's old news by the time I read it. I will be just getting Sundays next year.

Our local paper is so biased that it is a worthless subscription to have. Of course there's also the pesky fact that one has to be able to read for a newspaper to have any value. I guess I could look at the pictures?

I haven't bought any newspapers in along time. On occasion
I might pick up the local hometown edition but that is rare.
Now you can read every newspaper from one end of the country to the other on line...that is such an awesome thing to do.

No, I don't. Not even just online. I used to read it... but now I am in such a money saving routine... that I don't. I have a friend that gets it, and I occasionally get the paper from her, if there is something I want to cut out.

It's a real shame, that I contribute to the demise of "real newspapers".

Maybe, once I have been here a year, and find out, how much money I really need to manage...

I have a daily newspaper delivered every morning, plus now that I'm retired I go out for morning coffee and often purchase a second. Luckily I live in a metropolitan area (Long Island, 30 miles from New York City) so there are plenty of newspaper choices.

We can only get the newspaper delivered on Sunday, because we are too far away from civilization. That was a big adjustment for me when we moved here, because I was accustomed to reading the Washington Post every day. I don't really miss it, since I have the internet and 24-hour news shows on satellite.

We get a local paper once a week, so we know who got engaged, married, died, arrested, or graduated from school...

LOL at Wanda. Our local paper is the same laughable 'journalism' -- just enough print to keep the real estate display ads from falling together. We also receive a monthly -- well they claim it comes out monthly! -- glossy magazine. That is another ad rag with 'society news'. (We call it "The Fluff".)

We still subscribe to a 'real' daily paper, The Chicago Tribune. *I* would be fine dropping that except for Sunday, but DH wants to strain his eyes on the fine print baseball/football stats while he breakfasts.

We recycle *everything* -- fill a huge container every two weeks. (Garbage, not so much.)

I've been getting the local daily newspaper delivered for 30yrs. It's so much a part of my morning routine that I'm lost on the holidays it's not published or the route driver is late or forgets me. He/she puts the paper in my box around 6:30am. But I have many friends who don't get a paper or even buy one. I like to keep up with what's going locally and nationally.

I've never heard any discussion of the paper switching from seven days to three or so. I hope it doesn't. Subscription cost is $34 every 8wks, but you have a choice of 6wk,8wks or a year.

I had it delivered daily for decades. Reading the paper was one of my great pleasures. However, as the content got thinner, the price rose. Now I only get it on Sundays and sometimes I don't get around to reading it. I do love doing the puzzles on paper with a pen, so I miss that for sure. I also miss the ads from the dep't stores. I don't like that big chunk of color flyers that come with the paper and in the mail. I just fish out my grocery store flyer and recycle the rest.

I get my news online. My local weekly paper costs 75 cents and can be read in 10 minutes. I get the same news online from the local Patch websites.

I would love to go back to the olden days of savoring the morning paper over a cup of coffee, but that has become too expensive and not enough content. I don't even follow the comics any more. I used to just love For Better or For Worse.

We read 2 newspapers a day, the county newspaper for local news, and the Philadelphia for news and the crossword puzzle.

Stopped home delivery over a year ago, after getting tired of late deliveries, wet, sopping papers and trudging through ice and snow for papers which were tossed on our lawn.

No more. Get both papers on-line, 7 days a week.
On-line county paper is free, 7 days a week.
Philadelphia Inquirer costs less than $2.00/week. Can't beat that price. And, there's a feature where I can "cut out" the crossword puzzles(or any article) and then send to our printer so that we can both do the puzzles. When I have a busy day, I can put the 1 sheet of paper into my handbag, and do the crossword at the nail salon, hairdressers, etc.

The only thing we don't get with on-line delivery is the coupons in the Sunday supplement. No big loss - they're worthless these days, all cereals, frozen dinners, and canned foods - which I rarely buy.

Going on-line not only allows us both to read the paper at the same time....and at a savings of about $50/month.

Stopped the delivery, Got tired of the papers being tossed in the ditch instead of the paper box under my mailbox. No fun trying to sort out a dripping wet paper!

We cannot read local paper online without a subscription, so I often run out on Sundays and pick up a paper, I miss it! I am an avid reader, and newspapers have been a big part of my life, even as a child. I even wrote a weekly column for our city newspaper about thirty years ago.

We have a couple of local village papers, that are free and we pick up at the grocery, bank, etc. They are great for local news, not the best journalism..... but like the small town flavor!

I wouldn't be able to start my day if I didn't have the paper, lol....We've had our's delivered forever, daily and Sunday....Our delivery person makes sure it's thrown against our basement door about 7:00 every morning....I read from front to back and then do both cross word puzzles....I consider it a good day if I can complete both of them....We pay $9.00 a month and we also get a weekly freebie local paper and hubby gets a weekly paper from Notre Dame and we read them all....Our daily paper is very biased but I have to have that paper, lol.....

I do read the paper every day. I'm an early riser but Bob isn't, so I sit in a comfy chair and drink my coffee while I read the paper. Then I migrate to the sun porch in the summer or the dining room, in the winter and work the puzzles, with a pencil, unlike Pam, who uses a pen.:-) Start with sudoku, then celebrity cipher and last the crossword puzzle. I'm often totally finished by the time Bob gets up, around 9 a.m. and spends hours reading the paper.
I dread the day when we no longer get the paper. I don't want to sit at the computer to read it and I hate when family has their pictures on their Iphones or computer. I want to hold them in my hand and savor them.

And we do recycle them.

The Chicago Tribune has actually added content recently. I rely on a newspaper to get the 'whole' story after TV news has scooped with 'news bites'.

My DH and I grew up reading this paper. It is a *habit*. (My parents cancelled their subscription during FDR's presidency because the Trib was so right-wing and disrespectful of the office. Since I was not yet reading, I may have only missed some months of 'The Teenie Weenies' Comics)

My DH has his master's in journalism, and it was my major, so we are probably more critical than some.

We subscribe to two papers--the local Star-Banner and the Tampa Bay Times (formerly known as the St. Petersburg Times). Some people need coffee in the morning--I need the newspaper. Our TBT subscription is about to run out and I'm only going to renew for Sundays. It's too expensive. The Sunday paper alone is $91 a year. We recycle, too.

Like so many others who have posted, reading the newspaper every day has been a part of my life for many, many years even tho I could and do read some of them online. I am not looking forward to the day I will have to cut my subscription out of my budget.

I have for some time now subscribed to only the local weekend newspaper. That means I get the Friday, Saturday and Sunday papers (the only choice.) I do that for one reason . . . the TV Guide. There are very few coupons in the paper any more. I read the local paper online, because of my vision. The local paper has changed to very small text. I read other papers on line, but still get the "news" mostly on TV.

I'm considering canceling the weekend because so often anymore the guide is incorrect.

Our paper is very localized. Today the entire front page and inside was about the Hootafest that Minot has going. Lots of good articles and pictures about the items made and where the people came from Of course there is still a lot of people from Norway. Inside does cover the world pretty good, but I enjoy reading about the local stuff.

We get two papers, they're weekly and come in the mail. Both just local news, one from the little town close to where we live and the other from the bigger town where I worked for years. Just local news, no national news, I get that from TV.

The one from our close by town is free but they take donations to help cover the cost. The other is around $50 annually and covers the online edition plus the archives going back for year and years.

I have a newspaper delivered 7 days a week. The Sunday Journal includes a TV guide for the coming week and this eliminates the need to buy TV Guide.

Our weekday editions have been running an award winning series of investigating political statments and giving those a rating on the 'truth meter'. Ratings have ranged from 'pants on fire' to 'mostly true'. On rare occasion, a statement gets a 'true'. Of course, the low number of true statements can be biased by which statments are chosen. The idea of this series is to debunk a lot of gibberish being spewed forth these days.

Yeah, I read the funny page, too, and tackle the SODUKO puzzle.

We get both the Philly Inquirer every day and also the Bucks County Courier..That one is every day except Saturday We all love to read them and we also like the coupons. I also check out the papers online. We are a newsy family!

Monica's comments about useless coupons prompted me to look carefully at today's offerings in the Tribune.

Newspaper readership is clearly 'going to the dogs' (and cats). I guess that's why so many other coupons are for air 'fresheners' and floor and carpet cleaning products. But the greatest number of coupons seem to be for cosmetics and shampoos/hair coloring products -- 'cheap thrills' for ladies and high profit goods for manufactureres.

I clipped two coupons: One for Bertolli Risotto (frozen) and one for a Draino 'snake'. Hardly worth thumbing through for just those!

DH is still going over what he calls 'The Intellectual Section', reading about the Northwestern win -- that he SAW alredy! (Endless rehash of sports -- drives me nuts!)

I read 2 newspapers every day - a morning one and an evening one. I like to curl up with my paper and a cup of tea in the morning. Doesn't work with my computer and don't have a tablet or smart phone to read them over, besides like e-books(and I do have a reader) it's just not the same.

About six months ago we switched from 7 day delivery of the print edition of our statewide newspaper to digital delivery six days a week and print edition on Sunday only. DH and I each have an app on our iPads to download the paper. Easier (no waiting for the other to finish a section and we each can take it with us wherever we go), cheaper, and cuts down on recycling.

I subscribe to 2 daily papers. I was a journalism major in college and love my papers. The Des Moines Register is published 7 days a week and delivered early in the morning. That is how I start my day.
Our local paper is not published on Mondays. It only costs $6/month and isn't worth any more than that but that is how I learn what is going on in the community, the obits, and the police reports.
I read online the obits of the town where I grew up and the local news and obits in the last CA city I lived in.

For many, many years we subscribed to a daily newspaper and read it from cover to cover.

My work became so hectic and stressful, that by the time I got home, I had no energy left to spend on reading the newspaper. So they just piled up. Finally, after putting tons of unread newspapers in the recycle bin, I decided to quite spending money on the useless subscription.

I have also stopped watching TV news. When every evening there was an item about a young child: being hospitalized because of adult abuse; being mistreated mentally; or being kidnapped, I just could not take it any longer, so stopped watching TV news. This may be taking the "head in the sand" approach, it has been a Godsend to my peace of mind.

We get a daily paper and each do a x-word puzzle. For some reason we do not watch local news on TV. It is all covered in the daily paper as well as a couple of local weekly freebies.

Sitting down in the evening with our local daily newspaper is often the highlight of my day. Dh and I both eagerly await it's delivery. Subscribing to the local newspaper in all 6 places we have lived in our 53 years of marriage was always a priorty. I found it a great way to get to know a community. I like being able to pull a page up close to really get into a news story, or clip out an article of intrest. Reading it online or any hand held gadget just wouldn't be the same. I do read obits and some news online from newspapers in places that we have lived in the past. It is good to be able to do that.

I read the Bismarck ND tribune on line everyday. I think a subscription for out of state is maybe around 400 dollars already. In state the last I know it was 240 and that was about 15 years ago. I can't afford it. I like to keep up on things there. I just found out that my last great aunt died at the age of 98. Some of the news is online before it is in the daily paper though. I don't understand why they do that.

We subscibe to the small town local paper here in our county. It is about 28 dollars a month. I too started getting it so I would get to know about some of the people here and what was going on when I moved here. I also got another small town one the first one or two years but I cancelled that one.

I sometimes read the Pierre Capital Journal on line. There is a paper that comes out of Pierre that is free. It is the want ads and flyers from the CPJ so I see what is on sale and the rummage sales if I am going to Pierre.

Still have local paper delivered daily, however since we pay for 3 months at a time, we have 'free' online access. My mom's daily went to daily delivery, but it's by the USPS, not paper carriers [small town]. That one also has paid on-line access..$6 monthly...

I have two newspapers delivered...locals from a town about ten miles south (in a different county) and the other one from our county seat.
I prefer the Tribune because the sports page is more complete but felt sorry for a young man in a contest and was able to get the Santa Maria Times for $20/year daily.
I read them both thoroughly and enjoy the cross word puzzles and DH does the Sudoku.
When we are out of town I always buy a local paper.
I took journalism in school for four years. I also read newspapers on line.
