Tupersan costs the moon, so I wasn't going to bother. Since I've noticed that pre-emergents are at best semi-reliable, I'd rather use a cheap one or not at all. :-) I thought you don't see the dark green KBG color until its at least one year old. But your lawn is looking nice dark green. Since KBG spreads, are you not concerned that adding more seeds is going to create crowding problem? It seems to be darkening a lot faster than one year--if the change from Day 30 to Day 50 is any indication, this will be fantastically dark in another three growing months. Maybe that's the effect of organic fertilization and (now) very well-broken clay soil. Strangely, I looked in a blank area and noticed worm holes. An average of every three inches spread over 200 square feet. And those were just the ones I could see. I won't seed the areas that have sprout (and the back face finally has a lot of sprouting going on as temperatures and daylight hours adjust into fall). From the looks of it, I'll need about two pounds and no more, dropped here and there over 7,000 square feet. Possibly much less-even areas that didn't sprout are tillering in fast and there's still another month to go in the season.

Ooops, sorry it took me so long to get back. Thanks for all your kind words. Some torrential thunder storm ripped through my town on Monday afternoon and took out our cable including internet. It's still out this morning but I'm at work today and not totally cut off. An hour of rain did more damage to my garden then all the rain we've had so far this year-plants flattened, paths eroded, rivers of mulch in places where mulch shouldn't be. Oh well... Marian, the banana beside the garage is planted in the ground. It's a Musa basjoo and can be hardy to zone 6 with winter protection. We did have a mild winter this year but I think once you get them established your chances are better of getting them back. Any other bananas I have are in pots but new this season. I enjoy planting and fiddling with shade gardens much more than sun gardens. It seems like all I do in sunny garden areas is support plants or cut back plants I forgot to support. They always look like a mess to me. I may just convert my whole patio garden to tropicals, woodies and containers. Here's a picture of one of my work in process areas-the shed. It still has a long way to go but is alot better than before. What color should I paint it? I'm thinking maybe purple of some shade. A lime green door maybe? lol Tom needs to reshingle the roof. It's funny...Deanne and I were talking on Saturday about how people who come to your garden take pictures from totally different views than you usually do yourself. I took some pictures Saturday morning but never got time to post them. Then Deanne put these up and two of the shots were almost exactly the same as two I took that morning. You got me thinking.... This one went light green to dark green to red... On closer inspection it looks like a hopper put a tiny little hole in the pepper. Stress induced color change? The other more mature pods have gone from light green too dark green. I wonder if they will go orange before they turn red? I haven't been able to bring myself to cut off all the flowers.. My moruga (small slightly stunted one to the right is flowering and putting out pods like crazy right now. It's been a crazy warm end to the season up to this point.I fear we are going to hit the freeze mark this Thursday but things may rebound. I will be bringing the moruga inside... Wonder how many pests will come in with it?? Here is another one that I think will turn soon??? New phone takes way better close UPS ðµ. dj

When I started using Houzz I was amazed at how accurate the results of my searches were (in addition to the size of the photos database). It was a great resource. More recently when I've prepared to undertake projects, I've noticed that I just don't get the same, accurate results. My searches are riddled with results that just aren't pertinent. I think this is due to the incorporation of advertisers from my city and surrounding areas (contractors, builders, and others). There are enough ads (or results that are somehow influenced by someone who has something to sell) now to really hinder the flow of design ideas. I guess many internet sites end up using advertisers but it morphs the user experience. It's really made using Houzz less fruitful.
