Hi Everyone.

I have a Kodak Easyshare 5100 that needs to be replaced.

If you've had an all-in-one printer (which you LIKE) for MORE THAN SIX MONTHS, please tell me what brand you have.

My budget is $100.00 or less.

I have 4 all-in-one printers (and 2 laser printers)--all HP, and I love them all. If I were in the market for an all-in-one for under $100, I would probably get an HP Photosmart C4480-- $99.99. It is like one that I got almost 2 years ago, and absolutely love. The "photosmart" means there are slots for camera photo cards. A wonderful feature! Here's the link to the write-up about it.

I have an Epson CX6000 3 in 1 that I bought about a year ago. It prints really well but is an ink hog. Wouldn't buy this one again. I've been doing some research myself and Canon Pixma seems to be getting the best reviews. My Brother has an inexpensive HP 3 in 1 that prints really well and doesn't seem to suck up ink like mine does.

Well absolutely no one should be online without adequate protection these days, too many scoundrels out there by far. The 2 most popular seem to be Superantispyware and Malwarebytes. Be careful installing and stay with the free version, Malwarebytes is free but does not appear to say so as you install. I run one or the other perhaps weekly, more if I feel I have visited doubtful places. That is a very smart move taking your scanner when visiting rellies, at least that way they feel safe in that the photos remain in there possession. Also you get the chance to discuss each and perhaps make notes because no one thought to write on the backs of the photos. On the printing issue have you considered having them done for you? This can be done online at a large number of places including your local supermarket and/or pharmacy. You then collect them the next day or whatever the rules are at any given location. This to me is cheaper than using your own ink and I think their ink quality is somewhat better than we get for our printers. I found scanning slides very trying but that was a few years ago and the equipment was not as good as we have now. You say the scanner is expensive and no doubt it is. But when I started the local computer joint charged $10 for the first scan and $8 for any others done at the same time. It made sense to buy a scanner and save a bundle, you have to decide how many scans you need to do then decide on which route. Photo editing for tears, bends and scratches is very interesting but time consuming and a steep learning curve at the outset. I enjoy that stuff, in fact I just removed a no longer son in law from the middle of a family group for a lady.

The November 2008 issue of Consumer Reports rated six all-in-one printers. The top four were all Canon Pixma models, the fifth was an Epson, and the sixth was a HP. Actually, all six performed rather well. The first Canon, as well as the Epson and the HP, had fax capabilities. #2 Canon Pixma MP970 list price $300 #3 Canon Pixma MP610 list price $180 #4 Canon Pixma MP520 list price $150. I have a really old Canon color printer (SD530D), but since I rarely have a need for color, it's just sitting here just in case. Since it was also rather slow, I got a Brother laser to do my printing. Hope this helps a bit. Holler if you need more info from the CR article.

This is an interesting thread as printers are like razors. The base unit doesn't cost much, but you get raked over the coals to buy replacement cartridges. I've got a couple of people here that swear by HP inkjets both from a standpoint of quality and ink consumption, so I found it highly enlightening that they now seem to have come down in quality. I have had nothing but Canon at home, currently a 4 in 1 that we love, but Canon's also don't last forever, even when using only OEM cartridges, and the cartridges seem to run out quickly, and they cost a fortune. I had told myself to buy HP the next time the printer craps out, but now I'm not so sure. I hope you have a good experience with the Brother. I'm always looking for viable alternatives in this space.

My previous HP printers only used black ink when I wanted to print black and grayscale. Unfortunately, that's not the case with many new models which are designed to use a portion of each color ink cartridge when printing black. The printer will not work until the color is replaced; then it requires that the cartridge be charged which depletes additional ink from each of the cartridges. Since the bulk of my printing is black only, I'm researching black laser printers and plan to replace my Epson inkjet even though it works fine.

Hewlett Packard...One I have is 5 years old but it is "hp psc 1100/1200 series all-in-one". It scans, copies. You can adjust the size of the picture you want ....like enlarge it or make it smaller and is in black/white or color choices on it. Ink cartridges...one black and one color last pretty long and easy to pop into place. Its my everything. I think I paid about $50 for it. I believe I bought it in Best Buys here in South Carolina. HP is always a good choice.

I have a printer question. Do you have to use printers frequently, like weekly or so? I have an Epson CX5200 all in one and I don't use it often. It used to print in color beautifully but now the color always has green streaks in it. I have had this printer 4 or 5 years and am thinking of getting the HP model that Wanda suggests.

I have the Kodak easy share 5300 and i don't like it as much as the HP one i had before.I don't think the color is as good.JMO.

Green streaks can mean mold.... clean you print heads!

Linda, I found out the hard way, that Epson clogs up and prints badly or not at all if you don't print something about once a week. I have had the Epson for about a year and it has happened twice. I have been trying to get it going again for about 3 wks, with no luck so far. Here is a site that I've been using for info.

I have a HP Deskjet F4180 printer, scanner combo. I've had it over a year without any problems.

Linda, my brother has an Epson that doesn't work right unless he uses it regularly. He bought an HP Photosmart 2 years ago, and hasn't had any trouble at all with it.

I don't think you can beat HP printers.
