Movie: 'What's Eating Gilbert Grape?'

I just watched a Netflix instant movie (on the computer)--What's Eating Gilbert Grape? I thought it sounded a little silly, but it's an early Johnny Depp movie, so I gave it a try. Good movie about a young man who cares for his 18-year-old developmentally delayed brother. I was astonished to find out who played the brother, but I would not want this to be a spoiler!

Has anyone seen this one?

Hello snaylor, " The rabbits come up on the railing of my deck to eat from the rail planters and the other plants (on plant stands!) on my deck. Stargazer lilies chewed to the ground before they are an inch high. Nothing "cute" about bunnies, they are destructive, filthy animals. " Since you have a neighbor, I assume you live in town and an air rifle is not a good idea for controlling the rabbits. A slingshot would probably be legal, but would take some practice. Assuming your deck is in your backyard, fencing the rabbits out of your backyard is probably the best idea. A chicken-wire fence about 3 or 4 feet high might work, provided that your codes permit that. If you have an existing fence, the chicken-wire would just serve to make it rabbit proof. Nothing will keep squirrels out, but as you already know, they can be trapped. Fortunately for me, rabbits don't damage my zinnias. We have several native plants in our rural area that they prefer. Yikes! I'm not an entomologist, and could be way off base - but this is the first year in recent memory that I've not had forest tent caterpillars totally defoliate most of the young bur and bur-hybrid oaks in yard and along my driveway - they'll do it virtually overnight, and seem to feed at night, and disappear into the grass during the daylight hours - only once or twice have I managed to catch one of 'em "in the act". But, at my place, they usually hit shortly after initial leaf-out; the trees releaf and have the rest of the season to recoup.

Julie my friend was telling me on the Final Destination 3 DVD you can pick who dies or something like that. I haven't seen the third one yet, but I liked the first two. I watched Evil Dead again saturday night. That's a classic. The next movie I am awaiting to come to the theater is Spider-Man 3. I have seen one preview and it looked good. I'm glad that Sam Raimi was picked as the director. He has stuck close to the original story line. Which is something a lot of directors don't usually do. Also Bruce Campbell might have a more promonent role in this one as a villian. Since I'm on film adaptations I always thought it would be cool if the Dragonlance Chronicals (War of the Lance) were made into movies. Of course if it was me I would do 9 movies with the Meeting of the Sextet leading up to the War of the Lance. That would be asking a lot though, so I would settle for The Chronicals. oH someone could do The Legand of Huma, or just about any of the great DL books. Any other Dragonlance fans out there? Tim

Thanks for link, Covingtoncat! I enjoyed seeing her home, and although at first she seemed just a little too silly, she was fun! I enjoyed her tour and loved her skybrary, too. I was just a little horrified at seeing the wood in the basement - yikes - and wondered how far from the dining room the kitchen is - I didn't go back to the beginning of the video to check but suspect one must go through the sitting room off the kitchen to get to the DR, I assume the same sitting room that is off the DR...too much of a distance, for me. But the house was charming, and I, too, may file away ideas to use someday with those fanning-out cobble-stone lined garden beds with the path bisecting each piece....She seems like the type of person who takes on a challenge, and when it's done, wants to tackle another. I hope she gets as much satisfaction from her next home/project!

I've seen it several times. It's different than any other movie I've seen, but good. A young Leonardo DiCaprio is so believable as a mentally challenged youth and of course Johnny Depp is good in anything....

I did not realize it was LD until I saw his name in the credits at the end. I actually had to go back and look at a few minutes of the movie to convince myself!

Great movie. I really enjoyed it. Leonardo DiCaprio was also on the TV show Growing Pains and I knew at the time he had a lot of talent and would be very successful.

Gilbert Grape is a movie I watch every now and then. Everyone did a great job in that movie.

Great movie....if you analyze it, you see that Depp
was responsible for almost everyone in his life and
carries an adult's sad burden....until he can be drop
those resposibilities (for a little while), relax and
enjoy the experience of his youth with Juliette.

That was a good movie... I've seen it several times. I just finished watching Titanic, another excellent film that starred DiCaprio.

How come Johnny Depp doesn't have an Oscar? Loved his performances in this movie, Titanic, 3 Pirates Movies, and Donnie Brasco. Hollywood needs to give him some credit. I know he was nominated once, but he ought to win. I believe he is America's greatest living actor.
