Don't ya hate it when that happens.

This was chicken and veggies in a gravy like sauce with biscuits on top.

Oh it wasn't so bad that you couldn't eat it...sort of...I scraped mine into the trash...and ate a couple of the biscuits with butter and jelly.

Won't try it again.

Yes I kick myself when that happens. I found a chicken rice dish on the RE forum. Made it and not one of us 3 liked it at all. It sounded good, but sure wasn't. LOL

Here's a question for ya. I made a dessert that was posted here. Everybody raved about it. It was a simple recipe, so it wasn't that I messed it up. Anyways, I threw it in the trash. Would you say that you hated a recipe that was posted here?

Ahbee - Thanks for your feedback about cherry tomato salsa. I made a batch of salsa last week with half regular tomatoes, and half cherry. It turned out good - but could have used a few more hot peppers. As for the recipe - here it is. I always use a mixture of what I have - usually sunsugar, black cherry, and rose quartz or tomato berry. Spaghetti with Slow-Roasted Tomatoes, Basil, and Parmesan Cheese Serves 3 Â½ Cup Olive oil, separated 1 large red or yellow onion, diced 6 cloves of garlic, minced 18 basil leaves, plus Â¼ cup basil, cut into thin ribbons 1/8 tsp hot red pepper flakes 50 ripe cherry / grape tomatoes 3 tsp. salt Â separated 2 tsp. sugar Â½ lb spaghetti Â½ cup grated Parmesan cheese Preheat oven to 250Â° Heat Â¼ cup of the olive oil in sautee pan over medium heat. Add onion and garlic and cook Â stirring occasionally Â until tender, about 5 minutes. Remove from heat, and stir in the 18 basil leaves and red pepper flakes. Place cherry tomatoes in deep roasting pan large enough to hold the tomatoes in a single layer. Sprinkle with sugar and 1 tsp salt. Spoon onion mixture over tomatoes, and drizzle with remaining Â¼ cup olive oil. Roast tomatoes in preheated oven for 3 hours Â or until tender Â stirring once during roasting. To finish the dish, bring a large pot of water with remaining 2 tsp. of salt to a boil. Add spaghetti, and cook until al dente according to package directions. Drain, and transfer to large pot. Add roasted tomato mixture, and toss well. Add remaining Â¼ cup basil ribbons and parmesan cheese. Toss again, and serve immediately. Tomato mixture can be roasted ahead of time, and heated in saucepan while pasta is cooking. So yummy - and easy too! You'll have to let me know how you like it. The recipe posted was in a tomato cookbook I have, and modified over the past few years to get it just how we like it. On another note, found out some local growers have late blight. Going to can some green tomato relish tomorrow, just in case it spreads this way. I missed canning it last year, and I WILL NOT go without it again, even if it means stealing green tomatoes that would possibly ripen if I let them go another couple weeks :)

Okay, I'm reporting back..I just finished dinner which was Sooz's baked pork chops, which were yummy, corn pudding and green peas. I made half the recipe, and the only change I made was to use a small (5 oz.) can of evaporated milk and finished with 3 oz.s of heavy cream. (why does heavycream, whipping cream etc. have such a long shelf life?) I baked the corn pudding in 6 oz. ramekins,(7 of them) may have been just a tad overbaked, hard to judge the baking time, but it was very good. I have no idea how that computes fat wise or calorie wise but we have 2 more meals to go. I like using the ramekins and without going back to see who suggested it, I'll just say, thank you very much. jude

Michelle - thanks for the recipe. I will add it to my collection. I found some other good tips on making muffins in my web search. I had known about most of these in the past. I found this information on several websites and consolidated it here. If anyone else has some tips to add please list them. Thanks. Clare TIPS Sift all dry ingredients. Measure flour accurately. Sift with the other dry ingredients. Don't over mix. Put all dry ingredients in one bowl and all the wet in another. Create a well in the dry ingredients and barely mix in the wet. Use very few strokes and don't worry about lumps. Mix by hand. Never use a mixer or it will create too much gluten. Mix by hand and resist the urge to make the batter look uniformly mixed. Little clumps of flour are good. Cake method vs Muffin method. Cake method is creaming the butter with the sugar, and the muffin method is when wet ingredients are added to the dry. Buttermilk or Yogurt. Use these instead of milk to make a lighter crumb. Baking Powder. Most muffins recipes call for baking powder. It works with the heat of the oven to cause lift which helps to create a light crumb. Make sure it is fresh not old. Fresh baking powder should be good for three to six months once you open the container. To test the vitality of your baking powder, add a teaspoon of it to a third of a cup of hot water. If it foams and bubbles, it has enough oomph left. If it just sits there, it's time to run to the store or you can make your own. Combine a tablespoon of baking soda with 2 tablespoons of cream of tartar and 1-1/2 tablespoons of cornstarch. It may not have the same potency as a good store-bought double-acting baking powder, but it will serve in a pinch. Substitutions. Using applesauce or prune puree in place of oil or melted butter often causes leadenness. Grease only the bottoms not the sides. If you grease the sides, the muffins may not rise as well and this will make them dense. Or use muffin papers. Make sure the oven is hot enough. Especially in the beginning of baking. You want a blast of heat the first 10 minutes to make the lift happen. Some people set the oven 25 deg. hotter than the recipe calls for and then turn it down to the proper temp. when you put the pan in the oven. Do not open the door to check on the muffins during the first 10 minutes. (I used my convection oven setting and it may have helped with the lift.)

If you don't mind a little extra work this is my favourite Chicken Pot Pie recipe. I adjust the filling depending on what I feel like. But I always cook fresh chicken breasts and use the broth to cook the rest of the ingredients. I don't like it made with leftover chicken. You can top it with , the or with . Home Cookin Chapter: Recipes From Thibeault's Table Chicken Pot Pie With Herbed Crust ================================= Pie can be topped with herbed crust or with Puff pastry Dough 1 1/2 cups all purpose flour 2 Tablespoons chopped fresh thyme 1/2 teaspoon salt 4 Tablespoons cold butter, cut into 1 inch pieces 1/4 cup cold solid vegetable shortening cut into bits 1/4 cup ice water Chicken filling 4 Large chicken breasts 5 Cups chicken broth 2 Teaspoons black peppercorns 2 bay leaves 4 springs fresh thyme 3 Large garlic cloves 2 Small carrots cut into 3/4 inch cubes 1 Small leek cut into 1/2 inch thick pieces (about 2 cups) 1 Large sweet potato 1 or 2 stalks of celery 2 or three large baking potatoes cut into 1 1/2 inch pieces 1 Cup frozen peas Sauce 4 Tablespoons butter 5 Tablespoons all purpose flour 1 Cup heavy cream 2 Tablespoons chopped fresh thyme salt and pepper . Use any combination of vegetables. I have added fresh green beans cut into 1/2 inch pieces. Cook the chicken in a soup pot with the broth, peppercorns, bay leaves, thyme and garlic. Bring to a boil over high head. Reduce the heat to low and simmer very gently until the chicken is cooked. Remove the chicken from the pot and let cool. Remove meat from bones. Strain broth to remove peppercorns and herbs. Bring strained broth to a boil and add leeks, celery and carrot. Cook a couple of minutes and then add sweet potatoes and regular potatoes. Remove vegetables from broth to a bowl with the chicken and set aside. Make sauce, by melting butter in a saucepan over low heat. Add flour and then cooking stirring frequently with a whisk, until the mixture develops a nutty smell, about 2 minutes. Slowly add half the broth to the roux, whisking constantly until the sauce thickens. Add the rest of the broth along with the cream and chopped thyme. Increase the heat to moderate and allow the sauce to simmer, stirring occasionally, until it is well steeped with the flavour of thyme. Remove the pan from the head. Add the vegetables and chicken to the sauce. Add frozen peas. Season with salt and pepper. Spoon filling into the pan. Cover with pastry, trucking in edge to seal to side of pan. Reroll the dough trimmings and cut out several leaf shapes to decorate. Make small incisions in the crust to allow steam to escape. Bake in a 375 degree oven until crust in golden brown, for about 50 minutes.

Sorry it didn't work out Patti.

Lindakathy, I think I would just keep quiet about it. In the large scheme of things it just wouldn't be worth it. Now if someone asked me directly if I liked it I would tell the truth. If someone wanted a review I would tell the truth. But I wouldn't just come out and say I hated a recipe that that someone posted. I might say I didn't care for that type of thing but not criticize the recipe itself.

I once emailed a poster after they tried a recipe to see if they liked it. They thought it was pretty horrid but kept it off the boards. I appreciated the review and nobody got their feelings hurt.

Patti, it sure sounds good, but that happens to me a lot. But after going to all the work of making something new you hope it at least turns out good enough to not throw away.

Lindakathy, if I posted a recipe that wasn't good, I would appreciate an e-mail telling me that you made it and why you didn't like it. Maybe suggestions on how to make it better. Sometimes I post recipes that sound good, but I haven't tried yet. I try to remember stating that it isn't tried and true, but forget sometimes. If it just stinks, it would save me the trouble later of making it and I can delete it from my files.

Pattico - I have a similiar recipe that I want to try soon - its in the Campbells Soup Recipe book that I bought at the grocery store. Think you use a bisquick type crust on it. Hoping it turns out good. Just waiting for a cooler day to make it.

For a recipe posted on these boards that didn't turn out so hot, it would occur to me to either try to e-mail the original poster or post a follow-up here just to ask whether, just maybe, an ingredient was left off, saying perhaps "It was a little drippy" or "It was a bit bland to my taste buds" or "Was I supposed to use real cheddar cheese instead of Velveeta?" (lol!)

Oh yeah, it would hurt my feelings if someone tried something that I make that we love, and they couldn't eat it.

If several people rave about a recipe and one person didn't like it, that wouldn't bother me so much. Maybe there was a flavour they didn't like, for example.

What I would like to see more often, is if people try one of the recipes posted here, and they like it! Either one of own tried and true, or one that we post that looks good.

I tried one, posted here, for a potluck dinner. Sounded so good, and did not work. I would love to try it again, but need to tweek it.

First we all have to remember that we won't all love the same things...

Would I tell them...probably not..unless they ask me..

But even if I told them I didn't care for it...doesn't mean they wouldn't still love it.

If some one didn't like something I cooked...I'd just figure...good....more for me...(like I need it)

So it just proves it...we all have different ideas of what is good.

But I have news for him...he's not getting it again...lol

Several day ago I made a tuna casserole out of leftover small shell pasta, I had one large can of mushroom soup, 3 cans of tuna and some shredded cheese and mushrooms. I just wanted to use up the items...DH thought it was wonderful. Such raves!

I tried a chili seasoning product called False Alarm Chili, It was supposed to be to make MILD chili. Believe me, their idea of mild and mine is not the same. I tried a number of things to 'lighten' it up, but ended up tossing most of it. I sure hate to waste food like that, but live and learn, I guess.

Hubby was watching football yesterday. I decided to make him a bowl of popcorn. We had some "gourmet" popping corn from last Christmas. Made it, added salt and butter.Inedible, too much salt. tried again. Same result.It scratched my tnroat going down. Result- Two batches out for the birds so they could have a gourmet treat. And hubby's team won the game, so he didn't mind too much.

I once made a T&T chicken and rice dish that came out tasting awful, like the chicken had been sprayed with Raid. I declared it poisoned, grabbed the whole thing up, stuck it in a plastic bag and out with the trash. If I'd had the receipt, I would have gone back to the store. Now that I think of it, I should have gone back to the store and told the manager so they could pull any chickens still on the shelf.

Sometime it is a difference in taste, but you've got to love the ones that try a recipe that was posted and it didn't turn out. THEN, comes the truth and they say well, they didn't make it the same as the original. LOL
My biggest problems seem to be when I want to try to make a smaller version of something, with just two of us.

That happened to me once on another forum. Somebody not following directions that is.

I gave a recipe for a dessert dish that had always gotten raves in the past---including from me of course.

This lady decided to make it for a get-together with her in-laws, then complained that they didn't seem to be impressed. THen she went on to mention all the substitutions she had made, eiher due to not having a particular product and/or her own "creativity".

I guess it didn't help that she clearly wasn't her in-laws' favorite DIL, as apparently they raved on & on about the other DIL's dessert contribution that day.

So, in the end, it really wasn't MY recipe.
