Last night at church I fell and hit my head. Took 40 minutes for the ambulance
to get there. Cindy said I needed stitches. I said just duct tape it and go home.
But it was a fairly hard hit and there was blood. The ER doc said I
didn't need stitches. BUT, my blood sugar was 392; so they gave me a shot
of insulin and kept me till my blood sugar levels came down to a more
acceptable level. I got home about midnight last night.

Church had just been dismissed and I was walking toward the restrooms.
All of a sudden things got blurry, then double vision, and I must of looked
like I was drunk staggering from one side of the aisle to the other holding onto
church pews until I finally missed one and fell. I hit my head on a church pew.

Somebody called 911 and put Cindy on the phone. Because I'm on Hospice
they had to transfer the call to somewhere else. I don't know where or why.
After Cindy waited on hold for 20 minutes she hung up and called back.
The 911 call center had dropped the call. This time they transferred and it
worked. They asked "How far did he fall?" and Cindy thinking it to be an
odd question repeated it. I heard her and very loudly spoke "All the way to the floor." I hope they heard me. They did explain the reason for the question.

The rest of the night was mostly just sitting in the ER. They got my
blood sugar down to somewhere around 200 and sent me home.

Bless your heart! I hope you mend quickly and monitor your blood sugar more closely. I can always tell when mine starts to spike - I get a horrible headache and know I need to sit down and drink some orange juice or eat a piece of fruit.

Make a note because between now and spring you're going to see this question a lot! My answers are this: Tomatoes; like someone else said if you want early tomatoes you need to plant the ones that produce fruit earlier. I did almost all WSed toms. last year and the rest of my plants came from seeds that planted themselves, I assume that these would be the same as direct sowing, and both of them produced fruit at about the same time. As for annuals I did most of my plants in a mix meaning that I wanted that immediate color but I still wanted to use my WSed plants so in a lot of areas I mixed the two together. This experiment really convinced me that WSing is awesome because the WSed plants not only caught up in a hurry but they practically ran over the plants that I bought. This was especially true for the Cosmos, Marigolds, Salvia and Sweet Alyssum. In fact the Sweet Alyssum that I bought never caught up with the seeds that I WSed! I have some photos and when I get a chance I'll get them posted because this plant alone will make you a believer! Wow I almost forgot Morning Glories, Sweet Peas and Verbena these plants also way out performed the ones that I bought from the store. But once again if you want that instant color mix the best idea is to plant 1/2 of your WSed plants with 1/2 of your store bought because this will allow you to get the best of both worlds. You'll get that instant color with the store bought plants and at the same time you'll get those stronger bigger plants that you'll by WSing. It's kind of the best of both worlds at 1/2 price. Oh wow I almost forgot the other reason to WS & that's to get the plants that you just can't find around your area. I've got seeds for at least 10 plants from other people on this forum that I just can't find around here so WSing gives me a great chance to grow things that I couldn't find otherwise. Strouper

Pretty sure, but I have a good in bloom on the other side that may be it! (Hangs head in embarassement) Soooo, that may be my blonde moment for the day, we'll see. Jasdip, I have narrow height frames like you and have three prescriptions to cram in there. I visited six (6!) optometrists before I found one who said they could do it. It was a little boutique shop and they filled the frames twice with different (but still demanding) prescriptions. I can read most things without glasses but I need glasses for distance. Hate carrying glasses everywhere I go so I wanted glasses that I could wear all the time and use for driving, computer and reading. The way they approached my prescription was pretty unique. Since I read more than I drive, they made the bottom reading area larger. Then they moved the horizon up so when I drive I need to tilt my head slightly down to see distance. My computer range isn't affected at all for some reason. I got tired of paying the boutique lens prices but loved the Armani frames I bought there so I decided to see if Costco was up for the challenge. At first they balked, then they examined my lenses and said, the horizon looks high so I explained how we approached it and they agreed to give it a try. I recently purchased the EI23BC30KS. It is really a beautiful fridge aesthetically and I found the interior fit and finish to be excellent. Unfortunately, though, it's been an awful experience. The compressor was SO LOUD it kept me up all night from across the house and caused ringing in my ears 24/7. I actually had to unplug it after a few days because I couldn't take it. I know fridges are all loud these days, but this was insanely loud and very high-pitched. I am not highly sensitive to noise. Also, the temp was off a few degrees and the gasket around the freezer had considerable condensation on it that would pool so badly it almost ran down the sides of the freezer door. To top it off, the hardware inside the freezer was already starting to rust! They replaced the compressor and gasket. The fridge was still loud, but tolerable. The new freezer gasket still had significant condensation on it that began within 24 hours of it reaching temp. Finally, after 5 or 6 service visits over 2.5 months and dozens of emails between the vendor and I, they delivered a brand new model of the same fridge. The new fridge unfortunately had the SAME issue with the freezer gasket and is off by at least 5 degrees. I'm using 4 different fridge thermometers to test. I have the fridge set on 34 which is keeping it just under 40 degrees. The freezer is set on zero and registering at -10. The model in the vignette at the store where I purchased the fridge wasn't plugged in, so after all this I went to another one of their locations to look at the Electrolux display there. It was one of the higher end models (possibly the one you are looking at). Shockingly, that fridge also had condensation on the gasket and it looked all moldy!! See photos. Yes, these photos are actually of an Electrolux on display right next to Viking's, Miele's and Sub-Zero's!!! In addition, there was terrible rust on the hardware in the freezer on this one too. So, while it's true you will read bad reviews on any appliance, based on my experience, I'm afraid that Electrolux has a real problem with these gaskets and freezer hardware. Not to mention the 2 that I've received can't keep an accurate temp as delivered. Sure, it could be a coincidence, but after the 2nd fridge I received had gasket issues and then I saw the floor model, I jumped shipped and bought a GE Cafe french door and matching range. Crossing fingers that it's better. I didn't like the inside of the GE nearly as much, but am hoping it will be a better choice over the long run. Now, I have to go back to the vendor and fight for them to return the Electrolux. On another note, I have talked to many repair people since this ordeal started and they have all recommended GE over Electrolux/Frigidaire. I'm finding purchasing appliances to be very frustrating because it's such a crap shoot it seems. Should be a fun, exciting purchase given how much they cost!! Wish I had a better report for you. Good luck! With LG and Kenmore, I would just make sure you check who is actually making the model you are looking at to assist with your decision.

Is that good or bad that they didn't find anything in your head. LOL It sounds like a blessing in disguise because you found out about your blood sugar level being so high. Keep a closer watch on that from here on. It's always good to hear from you.

I can't imagine how much that must have hurt! I read your title and thought-gee that could be me :-)

Unreal about 911 dropping the call. They couldn't call Cindy back? Incoming calls show when you are on another line. Glad your fall wasn't worse! That was bad enough.

Joking aside, how colorful are you....do you have much bruising?

I'm sorry about your fall and glad it wasn't worse.

Is that how 911 follows a dropped call? Doesn't sound too efficient to me, on TV if a connection is broken they call right back ;)

Yep, they examined my head and found nothing. :o)

This time it was a good thing. Mostly just fluff and stuff in my head.

Nope, no bruising. It's just small cut above my right ear.
Left a good size knot on my head.

I woke up today and my blood sugar was back up to 385 (fasting).
I just tested my blood sugar (10:25pm) and it is 301.
I haven't eaten anything high in sugar or carbs since yesterday.
yesterday I had a bowl of cereal and a bowl of chili last night.
Then today I have had a couple of bowls of chili. I took 20 units of insulin
this morning and then 20 more units of insulin this evening.
I have had enough fast acting insulin today to put me in a coma.
And I'll probably have to take 20 more units at bedtime. Oh, bother.

Sorry about your bump and lump, Pooh! I hope your sugar levels get back to normal soon!

Sorry for your fall and injury. Puzzled about the blood sugar rise.

I had some scans prior to a sinus surgery. The doctor reading them added the comment, "The remaining brain appears normal." I *assume* he meant that he could see some of my brain above the sinuses and it looked OK to him.

Last night when I finally went to bed (2am) my blood sugar was 184.
This morning when I got up (8:30am) it was back up to 255.
Between the two tests I have ingested absolutely nothing, not even water.
I'll have to ask the doctor about this.

LOL @ "The remaining brain appears normal."

PoohBear, that is what my blood sugar does daily. It's always higher in the morning than the evening.

My doc told me to have a protein snack with no more than 15g carb before going to bed. I usually have a spoonful of peanut butter, or cheese and 3-4 crackers. You might want to ask your doc about this.

Some suggestions DH use to do to help maintain his sugar. Around 10pm he would have some1-2 graham crackers with peanut butter. Depending on his blood sugar I would spread it either very thin, or a bit thicker. Then a glass (small) of non fat (fat free) milk. You may not be eating enough, often enough to keep your sugar down. He found that pasta was the worst, except the ND brands, as they are made with durham wheat. For some reason his system accepted that. Pies a big no, no, but most cakes were not a problem small piece. Blueberries will lower the sugar. Also, he ate smaller meals with snacks at 10am, 3pm and 1pm. Just some thoughts.

Sure glad you weren't more seriously hurt, but please find out from the doctor what to do for the rising of your blood sugar.

I'm very glad your head doesn't have anything in it!
at least anything that isn't supposed to be there.

Hospice seems to have a reputation that the nurses etc will do all your thinking & decision-making for you & that their judgment is better than the judgment of the people concerned.

That is not the case;
you have to make sure that you get what you need.

When my elderly friend was on hospice, she was doing well until we were told to start her on amnioderone (sp?).

Within a week, she started hallucinating, I mean weird stuff.

I called, I begged, I did everything I knew, & the response was "This is a natural progression of the disease."

Maybe it *would* have been the natural progression, but it was a sudden onset, & it happened after she started the new meds.

so I googled it & found that it is notorious for causing hallucinations.

Hospice told me not to dare stop giving it to her, as that could cause a crisis, & although they said I could cut the dosage by half (!), they refused to consult the doctor who had prescribed it & said that my friend would have to go in to the doctor's office.

She was elderly, fragile, & weak, & she weighed less than 100 pounds.

so we made the appointment, drove across the yard to get the car as close as possible to her front door, enlisted all her friends to help get her into the car, caravaned to the doctor's office, everybody helped to get her inside, sat down in the doctor's exam room, & he said...
"Yes, that often happens. We start patients out on the strongest amount & when they start hallucinating, then we reduce the dosage until the hallucinations stop."

so.

If you call hospice for any reason & they don't seem responsive or it seems like they're blowing you off...

raise hell.

I have an excellent Hospice team. I'm using Avalon Hospice of Chattanooga.
I have friended several of my team members on facebook.
They have all been great; and responsive to my needs.

It seems a little odd, doesn't it, that we worry about each other even if we never have met, as they say, "IRL"!

but maybe the web is today's equivalent of the early days of the telephone-

Those head wounds sure do bleed profusely. Glad you weren't hurt any worse David. I don't know what is a normal blood sugar level with the way you measure in the US but that does sound like an extremely high number. We use a different measuring system here where a number over 7 is high, I hope your levels even out so you won't feel like that again and pass out. Wishing you all the best my friend.

Oh Pooh! I am glad it wasn't worse. No wonder with your sugar that high, though. I will continue to keep you in my prayers.

Anne, here we consider normal to be around 80-120. 392 was dangerously high.
