I have it set up and it seems to work fine. I'm not a Outlook devotee, I do prefer web (and smartphone) access to gmail.

But as you say, there are certain functions that Outlook does quite well. For me, I prefer sending meeting invitations (that will be responded to) from Outlook instead of from gmail. It seems to work from a direct gmail calender web access but the interface is inelegant and awkward compared to Outlook, so I use Outlook if I have my laptop with me when I send one.

I'm not sure if there is a switch that says Leave mail on server/don't leave mail on server that's part of the setup, but my setup definitely leaves mail on the server when populating Outlook on the PC. That way, the PC info is a duplicate set and all the information remains web accessible. If you set yours up that way, there's no harm in trying it out, and if you don't like it, you can just stop using it.

I started working with a new client today. One of the first things he asked me to do was figure out why customer emails send using Outlook to his Mac came in with Winmail.dat files instead of the attachments that were sent. I quickly figured it out and was able to test it because I had Outlook installed. Made my new client very happy.

See the attached link. Google apparently decided last year to end full Outlook support. According to the article (which is 9 months old already), mail support will continue but calender and contact support will wane. Instead, they want to push people to use the desktop/offline versions of their own software. It's free, but not Outlook.

Were you the nice looking lady I saw at the Eiffel Tower wearing white Nikes and a fanny pack? ;-) Wait a minute, maybe not, there were 25 ladies similarly attired last time I was there. All of whom had pickpockets invisibly swarming around them, waiting for the right moment to bump into them and do their thing.

The solution is to dress and act like the locals (who don't wear white shoes or bright colors, use fanny packs, or have cameras around their necks)

Nope, I've always known better than to travel in white tennies. Even made my hubby buy dark tennies when we traveled to Central/South America and SE Asia. However, being the small person I am, I don't like carrying purses because I don't think I could fight off someone who felt they needed it more than me. Hence, the very unflattering fanny pack. I would have preferred to keep everything in a hotel safe but we were renting an apartment with dodgy front door and window locks. Plus, I don't think I would even bother traveling if I could not take a camera with me as I saw the world.

Now, I did manage to spend an entire night on the Champs-ÃÂlysées without incident. It was Bastille Day 2003 and my daughter, me, my best friend and her daughter all made our way to the Eiffel Tower to take in the fireworks, music and festivities which didn't begin until nearly 10:30pm. It was us, and about 100,000 other revelers. The celebration was over just as the Metro was about to close and the crowds to get underground wrapped around the block. All taxi stands were filled with crowds and not a taxi in sight. Locals were gassing up their mini-vans and offering rides for, as the French say "beaucoup bucks" :-) My friend called her French husband back home in Calif. and asked him to call us a cab. The phone died before she could tell him where we were. So, we took turns sleeping on a bench on the Champs-ÃÂlysées about a block from the Arc de Triomphe and were the first ones on the Metro when it opened the next morning at 5:30am. Crazy night but all of my belongings were safe and sound inside my little ugly black fanny pack. :-)
