It's not a big deal and it will be over so fast you won't even realize it's done. They basically have you lie down on a long table that slides into the machine. Since it is of the lung, it's not a claustrophobic type thing...Your body is more into the tube than anything else. They will tell you to take a deep breath, hold it, breath normally and they will begin the scan...You can hear the machine whirring to describe the sound...It isn't frightening at all..It only takes a few minutes and it's over and done with. The hardest part is remaining completely still for those few minutes....It's a mind game thing..you know you are supposed to be still and it's only a very short time but I found my body tense....

It's really no big deal so don't worry about it.

Are you having it with contrast...If so that means they will do two scans.....They will insert an IV needle in your arm, do the first scan, inject liquid into the needle and then do another scan........still not a big deal...some people have a hard time with needles ..The needle is inserted just like a catheter to draw blood from your arm..It's all so fast though you hardly have time to think about it.....If they do it with contrast, your body will immediately react to the liquid they inject and you will feel this very warm sensation over your entire body. It feels like you have just peed on yourself........but it's just the warmth and not pee. LOL thought I had better tell you about that part.

I hope your scan turns out good..unfortunately mine wasn't and I had surgery and chemo....but I'm doing good at the moment.

Spots on the lungs can be so many different things. I have a scar spot from getting ribs broken and bruised when I was a child. Then a second tiny lump one from bruising in a motorcycle accident a few years ago. One or the other shows up in nearly every lung x-ray and Docs come in "We want a CT Scan to see what this spot is." My sis had little calcium deposits in her lungs and those show up on hers all the time. Spots on the lung x-rays can be echos (never understood how light waves echo) and not always the bad news you can imagine. TRY to NOT worry so much about it now. I know it is easy to say and hard to do but worrying won't help and can make things worse for you & everyone around you. The procedure is just as ruthieg__tx described it and normally does not require a contrast when done on the lungs. It is quick and painless if you relax, lying on your back you may want a pillow under your knees to ease the lower back pain. If you have claustrophobia you can get a mild sedative. Once it is done you and the Docs know what is going on and can go from there. I'll send up some prayers for your results to come back telling the x-ray had echos. Please let us know how things are going and again try to not worry.

I've had a couple of CT scans of my lungs. No biggy except I am glad you were warned of the feeling of needing to pee part. You recover very quickly from that part but it is disconcerting.

Yes, I had the same experience. Dr. called me to say he saw two spots, my response was "now I'm WORRIED" and he said "you should be" geesh!!! I was a basket case worrying. Long story short, turned out to be nothing and the ct scan is so simple, not scary, doesn't hurt. Good luck, let us know.
