Aster, dahlia, sweet pea, mini snapdragon, lobelia, sunflower, Poppy, larkspur, impatien, and viola. Dahlia, sunflower, and probably aster larkspur and snapdragons would prefer more sun. They look very healthy and green but are all so small. So many things can "go wrong" when growing in containers. I have a bedroom window facing SW. Can i overwinter these in the window and hope for early blooms next spring? Are you saying these are all outside now with NE exposure and you'd like to bring them inside when it gets colder? It's hard to advise without knowing your zone. I think some of them would be fine left outside. The sunflowers, sweet peas, and larkspur can't live any longer no matter where you put them. As true annuals, they're already senior citizens. I think the rest are tender perennials. What kind of lobelia? All the other older plants also have great foliage and no blooms except for cosnos thats just started flowers last week. If it's been cold, wet, and overcast, the plants may just not have had the light they need to produce flowers. Do the pots have drain holes? Do the pots have saucers? Are they full of water? What am i doing wrong and will they last til next year? It sounds to me like a combination of too much water, too little sun, possibly a soil issue. What else can you tell about the soil? They have plenty root space. If the plants do not like the soil, the roots will go to the edge of the pot, down, then around and around, strangling themselves. I sowed these expecting many cheerful flowers but i only have very green small ones. You may get more enjoyment out of foliage plants if you are in the same situation next year. Should i restart after winter Absolutely! or take cuttings, I think only the impatiens from your list would be good candidates for this. or cont to feed, or pray for the sun? I would stop fertilizing unless/until you see some growth. It doesn't sound like it's helping, just wasting the fert. Has this happened to you with the seedlings and did they eventually grow up? Usually not, unfortunately. Once a plant gets stunted or unhealthy for whatever reason, it's hard to rescue them in a container situation (not including house plants in this remark.)

Ouch - hope it recovers enough to reward you well for all that work. Maybe you can figure out a way to spring load the gate and turn the space into a giant "have-a-heart" trap after the harvest.

high heels and wood floors

Oy, is this a hot topic on this forum. Do a search and you'll be stunned at the vitriol this one prompts! Honestly, I don't think there is a great way to word this request. No matter how careful you are, it's going to sound to some people like you value your floors more than your friends. I know you don't!! But you can't control how others feel. If you are going to entertain at home, then the public spaces just need to be people-friendly, or else you just have to absorb it and be prepared to deal with any damage -- the same as people with carpet have to clean (or live with) spills and people with tile or linoleum have to deal with stubborn scuffs. This is one reason that some people simply do their entertaining in restaurants. I am 5'1" and all of my nice outfits require high heels (although not always the skinny heels I think you're talking about). I would NOT be thrilled to arrive at a party and have to walk around in socks and slippers with my party clothes, either looking ridiculous in a dress or having my pants drag on the floor. Whether your guests are right or wrong, being silly or not, you want them to have a good time, and remember your party for other things, right? By the way, my house has hardwood floors, almost 100 year old, over most of the public spaces. I can't say that I've ever noticed any particular damage from high heels, or anything else (dog toenails, etc.). The only times I've ever had baskets of slippers out were a couple of nights when we had some kind of meeting -- not a party where people were dressed nicely -- and the weather was particularly hideous, so everyone's feet were covered with snow and almost everyone was wearing boots anyway. At such times, I notice that most people just take off their shoes or boots automatically anyway, so this spared them having to just be in socks. Your best bet to avoid high heels is to specify a casual dress code. If your friends wear stilettos with their jeans, then the advice you got about rugs is your best bet. In the summer entertain outside. And at this party, if you notice someone absent-mindedly grinding her heel into the floor or something, say, "Oh, let me get you a little rug for that spot." Do NOT get into any discussions of the care of hardwood floors. But wear and tear on our houses is a part of entertaining, unfortunately. You can't specify "no lipstick" to spare your napkins or "no overweight people in the Chippendale chair" either without it looking not quite hospitable. But honestly I think you may be worrying too much; I doubt you'll have any damage. Sorry; I know this isn't the advice you wanted. You didn't ask if it's okay to request this or not, you just asked for a good way to word it. But I think that this is the reason that it's hard to come up with gracious wording.

Solution for high heeled shoes sinking into grass
Q

Guests don't always know in advance that they will be in such situations. I didn't, so I was really glad I brought those covers. In any event, whether or not high heeled shoes are a good idea (on grass or otherwise) is not the point of this string. I was just sharing a product I found that is very helpful when you do choose to wear them when you may have to walk on grass, cobblestones, etc. Ridiculing people who wear high heels or even saying something like "wear flats" (as if that weren't an obvious possibility) is what is known as "thread cra**ing" -- like responding to a question about wedding planning with something like "Marriage is an outdated institution!" or "You'd have to be insane to waste money on a fancy wedding!" It's poor forum etiquette; please don't do it.

This makes me almost furious!

Just another sign that children are not allowed to be children any more. We see it everywhere, in the clothes they were, their toys, the freedoms they have, the activities they are allowed to participate in, etc.

Childhood is short enough as it is. What is the rush to turn them into Adults?

And besides that. . there are little children everywhere who don't even have real shoes to wear.

Hey, whatever happened to TV booties? They were the only ones which would stay on.

As for the high heels, the heel part looks to be soft, but that would be dangerous for a child to try to walk on soft or hard. They could twist an ankle with that lump of a heel underneath. I don't even want to think of an infant wearing them.

Socks, I don't think they make TV Booties anymore. Those high heels, are only size 0-6 months, so they wouldn't be walking in them.

Grrrr! I don't like 'em.
O.K., I'm old...will be 60 in December, so I'm getting really outspoken.
If you want to "decorate" a tiny one who is not going to try to stand, I guess it would be O.K. for Halloween, if you want to sluttify a wee one.

Babies need barefoot experience. (Socks or booties are fine if the weather is cold, and shoes are fine if they are walking and their feet need protection)

However, babies need the opportunity to discover and wiggle their toes and to have weight-brearing experience with good proprioceptive feedback.

Good Golly Miss Molly!

Thankfully, Addy Kay is 19 months and these won't fit her! However, I can say those "heels" are the last thing I would want to see her in...being a little selfish but, I can hardly wait for the age she wants to play in MY high heels! I raised boys, so I am so looking forward to the "girly" activities!

I think they're kinda cute - for halloween that is. If I found somthing like that at a thrift store or garage sale, I'd probably buy these for someone as a gag gift. I wish I would have thought of these. Can you imagine paying $35 for these?

You know, this just disgusts me.....they are not even cute!! There is a little girl, probably 10 or 11, who comes to church in the most god-awful outfits....Sunday she had on a dress full of sequins and 3 inch heels. I just don't understand how her mother, a supposedly intelligent woman, allows her to dress that way. Enough of this week's rant.

I don't even like the "heels" look for little girls, let alone babies. Three and four year olds in small versions of high heels, they look like prostitots. I guess I still like the Mary Jane styles from way back, so sad.

Stupid, stupid, stupid. I saw a little girl about 3 wearing little heels at the food court a month or so ago and I wanted to slap the mother. She could walk pretty well in them so you know it wasn't the first time she had worn them.

How come these are so wrong but those little infant sized, $50 designer sneakers are OK? They're just for looks, not going to be walked in, no harm to little feet or ankles. The heels are made of fabric, so no injury if the baby tries to put it in her mouth.

I think they're kind of cute. I wouldn't pay that much for them but if someone wants to dress up her baby's feet, why is that wrong? They dress up the rest of the kiddo. And the baby will have no clue or care what is on her feet.

Sick. But then I don't understand what so many parents today refuse to dress their infants like infants. Why the big rush to have little teenagers? Nothing looks so stupid to me as an infant dressed in miniature versions of adult clothing. What ever happened to putting baby's comfort ahead of fashion? Mine only wore booties when it was cold and got their first pair of shoes when they started to walk.

That is a no-brainer! It ticks me off to see bras for girls to young to need them, young teens getting implants & other cosmetic surgeries just to 'look more attractive'.One wonders what happened to accepting yourself as you are.
This society is pathetic.

I don't see anything necessarily so wrong with them, they are for infants, not walking kids. I just think they are ugly, and cheap looking. LOL.

Not my style. Not something I would buy. But, it's hardly something that would infuriate me or make me even rant about. There are far morethings in regards to poor parenting styles/choices that I'd rather focus my thoughts on.

It's a shoe. For an infant. With a heel. Who cares....

Just my opinion!

I agree with Flamingo, I wouldn't buy them but I have no problem with them. I think they are funny more than cute! I don't think it'll make them street walkers. I would see them as more for a laugh, but an expensive one! Nothing get all upset over though.

WHOA!!! I almost ordered a pair last night for my DD's baby shower~~she wears the tallest skinniest heels ever and since she is having a girl I thought they would be funny. But they are way too pricey for a gag gift. I do not see anything wrong with them they are funny more for the adults to LOL at than for the kid to enjoy!!

I am one with the camp that there is something wrong with these shoes. My girls both have high heels (3 and 5) but they are for dress up and they don't wear them outside the house. Another thing is none of my kids wore shoes until they were over a year old. Hayden is 13 months and is now starting to wear shoes outside but as soon as he can he takes them off and goes barefoot. I didn't even have them wear shoes as babies, they went barefoot and when we went out in the winter time we would put them in sleepers. Little ones need to be barefoot to learn how to walk.

These are soft like booties...not for walking in. I would think they are not made to be practical, just a novelty, an expensive one, but just for fun. I doubt many people would assume they are training shoes, especially at the age these are made for. I guess if you have $$ to waste and are into getting attention these would be for you!

Bend the sapling ...

... in the way that you want the tree to grow.

You've seen the little shopping carts for kids?

Same game, it seems to me: teach 'em to be consumers.

Early.

Often.

Ain't got the money?

We can fix that!

There's this little piece of plastic, see?

It'll do ... for the moment.

Pay later.

These are booties made for babies, not for walking in. Notice the name *Heelarious*? It is a play on words. Hilarious means 'funny' or comical. These are baby booties with heels. Get it? Its a joke. A gag gift. Not meant to be taken seriously.

They've made costume booties for babies for years - little cowboy boots, Nike basketball shoes, pink satin ballerina slippers with ribbons, HD biker boots (with matching leather jackets!), baby Crocs, ect.

I think theses Heelarious booties look cheap and crappy and are overpriced for a gag gift. I don't think anyone is buying these for baby to wear to the grocery store.

I hate seeing people dress up babies in costumes, like the Minnie Mouse dresses with the mouse ear bonnet, bumble bee outfits complete with antennae headbands, or the little US army soldier costumes for boys complete with fake guns. I hate seeing pets dressed up as Superman, bumble bees or bikers too. I've never seen a pet 'having fun' in costume.
