Yes, I also miss Strawbridge's. I grew up in clothes from there. My first job out of HS was as Christmas season help in the candy department at the 8th & Market store.

I am also disappointed with the quality they have. I haven't been in many other stores but the stuff at JCP was awful. When I was able to sew, my techniques were far better than what I saw hanging there. Most blouses were not even hemmed and the fabrics were flimsy as well and non stylish. I will just wear my out of date and out of style things until the stuff in stores improves.

JCP made a big mistake when they changed their pricing. Bye bye JCP. We are getting Kohl's and TJMaxx within the year. No more driving 20 miles for shopping.

I agree, the quality of the clothing is not good. Prices are very high and lots of junk from Vietnam etc and not well made. I like the Alfred Dunner brand, but a poor selection.

I love the fact that I can go in and buy DS jeans that he likes and will wear for 15.00. But I dont shop there as much as I used to

One of my neighbors used to work for headquarters. He said he quit when he realized they were trying to compete with Wal-Mart instead of Macy's and Dillards.

I can find cute girls dresses at JCP, but that is about it. My boys hate the clothes. They said it is the stuff gang members wear. Dh wears better brands. I'm not finding styles I like for me. I use the hair salon and that is about it.

I like their "American Living" brand clothes and bath sets from JCP.

I am a Alfred Dunner fan, I really like their clothing and bought 2 pair of slacks at JCP today. I didn't look around much....just interested in ADs.

I like the new look. Actually it is a throwback to how stores used to be organized back in the day. When you weren't forced to go to ten different display areas to buy a mans white shirt.

I hate the bargain basement cluttered look that became fashionable in the last couple of decades. I started to avoid places like Macy's and the like around the time they started cramming their stores with multiple departments for redundant items and piles of stuff on tiered platform that are always falling on the floor. All the mirrors and weird lighting and the pathways forcing you to go through the entire store are a huge turn-off for me.

To me JCP went for a leaner, cleaner, easier to shop look. The everyday low pricing is so much better than how other stores jack their pricing and offer sales and fakey discounts.

As for the quality I find it much better than the junk at Kohls. I only buy towels on sale at Kohls. Also seasonal items. That's about it.

I have never shopped Penney's and probably won't now even though I have one five minutes from my house. I like their new ads but when I saw the prices, I thought this is JCP's? I don't shop department stores at all any more. Get all my clothes at TJ Maxx and Marshall's or Gap. I also am a big fan of thrift stores.

I don't like the new look or the catalogs. But I'll continue to shop there. I agree that the quality is better than Kohls and there's more variety. They have brands like Levis and Dockers that I like, and I like their towels and home department, jewelry and handbag section. I also like the Worthington brand quite a bit for work clothes. There are some amazingly good and durable pants, skirts, and tops for very little cost. I recently got a pair of black pants and a black pencil skirt for about $25.00 each--staples in my work dress wardrobe.

I just got three new, never worn, very stylish pairs of shoes at my local Saver's thrift store for 15.00. One is a high heeled Vera Wang, one is an Italian leather loafer, and the last was a samba flat. I'll shop thrift stores anyday. Never been a JCP fan.

It was fun to see Strawbridge's mentioned here. I am another who grew up with Strawbridge's. Wonderful quality and shopping atmosphere. When I go into the Macy's that is in the old Strawbridge building, I feel ill. Macy's clothing quality is such junk. They do have a Ralph Lauren section but it is as expensive as any other store. I buy socks, underwear, and accessories like belts there.

I never did shop at JCP, so I won't start now.

I like to paw through the racks at Nordstrom Rack and occasionally find things there. I do best at sales and with coupons at Lord & Taylor and Bloomies.

I used to work at a hospital that had a thrift store on the property. At lunch I would walk over and look at what they had. It seems that is the best way to shop at the thrifts -- go often. I would flip through the hangers looking for good labels and then see if it was anything I wanted.

When I lived overseas all my shopping was done via catalog purchase. Monkey Wards, JCP, Sears. I so missed when Monkey Wards went out of business, then Sears went to hell. The last time I was in JCP was a couple of weeks ago and they had a -huge- sell going on. I got a great deal on a couple of tops. Being in a hurry, I was unable to get around the entire store so I'm not sure if I'll like it or not.

The one thing I never liked about JCP in the past was the short length of boys shirts. Great prices if you want to pick something up for the grandsons but the shirts only reached to the waist bands.
