tell me something about renewing your passport

If I read the gov't website info correctly, you have to send the passport you have back to them (with the forms and fee and a current new photo -- i think). What happens to the pages that already have stamps on them? Do they transfer them into a new passport? I'd really hate to lose those... you know, just for memory's sake.

i renewed mine at our post office....they even took my picture.

Oh...and I have all my old passports.

Renewed mine 3 years ago.

I remember mailing mine in, and having that fear of uncertainty. PO assured me there would be no problem.

Came back with holes punched in the bottom on numbers invalidating that passport all the way thru the cover, plus my new one.

Had to send in two pictures, one stapled to the old passport and another one that they used on the renewed passport.

To answer your question, I have the old unuseable one and the new one.

Light emitting diodes (LED) are a type of semiconductor, similar to transistors and diodes. They operate on direct current, typically around 2 volts. LED's are more efficient than incandescent light bulbs, and have similar energy efficiency when compared to fluorescent lamps. Since LED's operate on direct current, they are well adapted for use in battery powered portable flashlights. To my knowledge, LED's are not cost effective when compared to compact fluorescents for interior lighting. I'm not sure that white LED's will ever be cheaper or more energy efficient than fluorescent lamps. I am not aware of any underlying physical reason that would make white LED's use less energy per unit of light output. If you have a source of dc current, then it might make sense to light your interior with white LED's, and avoid converting your power to alternating current, a necessary step for fluorescent lighting in this instance. If you are using alternating current off the grid, then there is no advantage to using white LED's for interior lighting at this time in history.

Sombreiul, I'm not sure what you mean about the top being abbreviated and it having a higher crown, but I looked at the top and I don't see any evidence that anything else was ever attached to the top. No screw holes or glue or anything. As far as the pins on the "decal", their are little gold nail heads or pins on each side of the decal. Linda, I took pictures of the back of the handles and the key from the lock. The handles do hang off the sides on the front but that might be because one door is raised on the edge and the handle would not lay flat. Maybe they moved the other over to match? The key says "ASRO" and under that it says REG and a D with a dot under it REG IN UK and on the back says British Made.

This is a difficult decision, isn't it? We aren't big cooks but did consider resale value -- we looked at our local market and price range and determined we had to go with higher-end appliances to stay competitive in event we had to sell sooner than we expect. We ruled out Thermador as my SIL put in all Thermador appliances and had to replace every last one within the last 10 years. We went with Wolf for the oven/micro/cooktop. Miele for DW as we were replacing an older Bosch that had problems, and we love our Miele vacuum. The hardest decision was the fridge. We knew we wanted to do panel-ready so brand name, when it came to resell, wasn't all that important. We wound up splurging on a SZ because my parents have had one for 30 years and it's an excellent fridge. What's more, since we aren't huge cooks, a fridge that can keep food fresh a longer time is a very big benefit to us ---and boy does it do that! Takeout and leftovers stay fresh for weeks. And finally: I stood there in the appliance store and closed and opened less expensive french door fridges over and over... a zillion times.... and just couldn't get over the chintzy plastic part between the doors of most brands. Maybe it's a silly thing as that part is probably easily replaced. But I wondered about the rest of the fridge, the parts I couldn't see.

We had a similar experience to Ratherbesewing. My son mailed his application in early August and paid extra for expediting. At the end of August he heard that he had neglected to sign the form so he sent a new one. It never got there. Two weeks ago he began speaking with our congressman's office for help as his trip was 9/25...his honeymoon delayed 2 years. He overnighted the paperwork again and got an appointment at a passport office in Houston (we live in NC) for Friday morning in case it did not come in time. Fortunately, the passport arrived on Thursday and he is now in Mexico enjoying his honeymoon just before his second anniversary. It was extremely stressful! I think you can make an appointment at any passport office, but appointments are hard to come by...maybe reach out to your congressperson for help securing an appointment. Someone in my neighborhood flew to Honolulu to get her son's passport in time for study abroad...it was the only appointment they could get in time.

When I renewed mine last year the clerk suggested placing my passport in a plastic bag to make sure it stays dry before placing it into the envelope.

You made me go look, cause I could not remember! I have both, the old one with my "old name" and the new one, with my "new name" which I changed to after my divorce.

The old one has holes punched through it, and I keep it in the same place as my new one. :)

I renewed mine last March and I think they sent the old one back to me. I took two pictures and the lady at the Post Office attached one to the application for the renewal and I still have the other one. I got my new, updated passport back sooner than the date they gave me.

A thought and a tip:

Don't store the old and new passports together.

Wouldn't it be awful to get to the airport, and you picked up the old passport?

I just separated mine. New one in usual drawer that it's always kept.

Put the old one, just for memories sake, with boxed souvenirs.

Just renewed mine. I sent it in. The old one was sent back about a week after the new one arrived. And yes, it is a lot more expensive than 10 years ago!

I just renewed my passport also. They mailed the old and the new to me. So glad because I didn't want to lose the stamps either.

An update:
So... the new passport arrived. And I got in a tizzy cuz it was just that, and no old passport!
I thought, "Did they change the process and they no longer return the old book?"
Well, I always jump to conclusions!
The old book came back in the mail a couple of days later.

Depends on how/where one travels. The Passport Card may be a better (cheaper) option for some. They give good info to help you select either. Agreed, a used one should not be kept anywhere near the valid one.

I renewed mine at the Post Office. They looked at but handed back my old one, so I got to keep all my stamps and my 1978 photo. I looked so young! Of course, that was before I was even married!

did you smile in your picture with teeth showing? They actually sent me an email to resubmit a pic with no teeth showing...I couldn't even believe that!! so I had hubster take yet another picture...

The passport card is substantially cheaper but can only be used for land entrances. You can NOT use a passport card for air travel.

It's clear on the website but it bears repeating.
