Here I go again: have 25 yes's for potluck tomorrow

Going to have our monthly potluck luncheon, and we generally have a great turnout, but big numbers for tomorrow.

Usually 15 come, but 25 have replied. I've checked and double checked so we shall see.

It's at one of the two male attendants at our water aerobics class. Last year, Tom had a great turnout, so guess that's why the bigger numbers. Plus a fantastic house.

I'm making wild rice and sausage casserole, and candy corn mixed with honey chex mix and peanuts. The mix is really good.

And it will be a surprise birthday for the host, that I've been working on.

At least we won't be going to a restaurant where I really needed an exact count.

Potluck, we bring the food, host/hostess only sets up.

Should be a good one.

Glenda, don't eat between now and lunch tomorrow :-) I saw that chex mix with candy corn on Pinterest and it sure looked good. Better make a large casserole. I have a feeling it's going to be a big hit. But then, I just love wild rice!!

Have a great time and eat some for me!!!

One gal told me already she's making homemade chicken and dumplings. Yum on that.

Long day. Its finally stopped about 11PM. 12" here, and probably very close to that at National Airport. Still lots of wind and blowing and drifting, but the skies are now clear. Yesterday, up until about 4am it was a "warm storm" with temps around 32. Its been below 20F since about 8am here. The snow held and held and held on for longer than expected. This was definitely the storm of a lifetime, EVEN IF we had not had the 2 feet here last weekend, just the sheer conditions this storm produced, especially the whiteouts, and the near hurricane force winds along with 4-6 foot drifts, countless downed trees...etc. etc. etc. was a once in a lifetime event here in the Mid Atlantic. However, since we did have 2 feet on the ground already, it was just all the more historic. TZ7, Be safe! I hope you guys dont get it as bad as we did here, especially in terms of the winds. Many of our streets look like the photos you posted, and some were with downed traffic signals. Post more pics if you can! Suffice it to say, all of my palms, including the large trachy in the pot wrapped in plactic and xmas lights, are buried. The in ground palms were buried as of last saturday, and now they are under 3 feet. My smaller trachy unfortunately had spear pull, although that may be more attributed to the fact I left the xmas lights on it one day when we hit 49, and the palm cooked to well over 100F im sure. It somewhat dessicated after that, and has not looked good since. I think these storms just pushed it over the edge. Well see if I cant get it to come back. Ok Im going to bed. Thanks Sylvia and Sally, This is a large organization that I know does do a lot of good. Apparently, they do more in the area they accustomed to working in. I can understand if they don't have members in our area and the volunteers are reluctant (or whiney) about the drive. We won't be requesting a refund or publicizing this because we don't want to harm the good they are doing elsewhere. The lady (Judy, a volunteer from the organization) who came when we rounded up the kittens a month or so ago came today and picked up Cookies. He will be tested for leukemia and feline aids then vaccinated and, a little later, neutered. During this time he will be living with a foster mom. Then he will go with the rest of the kittens to a PetSmart in Richardson. Adopters must agree that the cats will be indoor cats and that if for some reason, at any time things are not working out, the cat must be returned to the organization and not just given away or "thrown" out. I understand that the adoption fee at PS is around 125.00. Hopefully if someone is going to pay that much for a cat, they will give it a wonderful home (considering the number of free kitten ads they could have chosen from). I told myself I wouldn't do it, but I cried. Just couldn't help it and can't help it now. Barb, Candy and I discussed this morning with Judy the possibilities of us doing it all on our own. She volunteered her help and traps and we will be contacting the organization to get their approval which we will need in order to work with the local veterinarian (free spaying and neutering) and our local PetSmart who won't accept animals from individuals. I came across a strange little patch of completely and perfectly white bluebells years ago. They were surrounded by the usual blue variety so they really made a statement! I carried an old washtub down there and carefully dug several large clumps to transplant here and after all these years they still haven't spread too much. And yes, they still bloom snow-white. Naturally, I refer to them as my whitebells... Speaking of native blooms, I read that tradescantia (spiderwort) is notoriously hardy and easily propogated but they have been a large disappointment so far for me. Maybe this is because I initially relied on stock that I bought from a dealer instead of simply relocating some from the woods around here. I didn't think I wanted to dig up any of the stuff right here because most things do best right where they are without some human trying to 'improve' things, but maybe I should stick with a strictly local variety. If I dig a few tradescantia plants for my native bed here closer to the house, will they recover soon enough as I have read? And I'm talking about my own property and not just going about willy-nilly digging up stuff all across the county...

So, my problem is that if I bring this (the vapor barrier concern) up, he's going to argue with me that it isn't necessary, that Durock doesn't say it is necessary (as far as I have read they do not say it is necessary), etc. Our state building code (Michigan) says this. Does this imply it is necessary? R 408.30529 Lining required. Rule 529. Section P2709.2 of the code is amended to read as follows: P2709.2. Lining required. The adjoining walls and floor framing enclosing on-site built- up shower receptors shall be lined with 1 of the following: 1. Sheet lead. 2. Sheet copper. 3. Plastic liner material that complies with ASTM D 4068 or ASTM D 4551. 4. Sheet-applied load-bearing, bonded waterproof membranes that comply with ANSI A118.10. The lining material shall extend not less than 3 inches (76 mm) beyond or around the rough jambs and not less than 3 inches (76 mm) above finished thresholds. What's so hard is getting someone to commit! There's a lot of work setting up for a potluck. I've done it before for 27.

I've been the organizer going on 6 years. Lot of work in the planning. But I enjoy doing it.

Glenda, if you ever need a seat filler, I'm in!! I think it sounds like a wonderful time.

If you get a chance, would you share you rice/sausage casserole? If you did before, sorry, I must have missed it.

katlan, I've made this so many times and it's so easy and so good!

1 lb Jimmy Dean Pork Sausage ***used sage
1 box Uncle Ben's Long Grain and Wild Rice (Fast Cook Recipe) I used the oriiginal cause WalMart was out of the other
1 12 oz bag PictSweet Seasoning Blend (onions, celery, peppers)
1 can Cream of Mushroom soup
1 c. Shredded Cheddar Cheese (divided)

Directions
Prepare rice as directed on box (do not add butter or oil). While simmering, brown pork sausage with frozen vegetables (or use 1 c. each fresh chopped onion and green pepper & 1/4 c. celery). Drain when sausage is no longer pink and veggies are softened. Combine sausage mixture with soup, 3/4 c. shredded cheese and rice. Spread in 9X13, **used a smaller pan, greased glass pan and top with remaining 1/4 c. shredded cheese. Bake 30 min at 350
