Something I've never heard before...

but maybe its "usual".

I stopped off for a slice of pizza at my neighborhood Italian restaurant (owned & run by very nice Oriental people). At the next table was an attractive lady about 30 or so with a very precocious & only slightly noisy three or four-year old blond little girl, obviously her daughter.

During their back & forth conversation, the little girl kept calling the lady "daddymommy". I kept looking back to see if maybe a guy showed up out of my eyesight (maybe was parking the car or something), but it was only the two of them at least throughout my lunch. The little girl said this several times in addressing her mother so I know I didn't mis-hear.

Have you ever heard of this? I've never had kids so I'm out of the "parent loop".

Perhaps the child's parents are gay women, and "daddymommy" is the partner of the child bio mother?

I'm guessing maybe the girl had been confusing the names for her parents - calling mommy, daddy, --and calling daddy, mommy, so they just told her to call them both daddymommy.

I have Coquette des Blanches, Magenta and Taischa. CdB is a very beautiful rose. Not white as advertised though. More of a pale pink but as you can see from Jeri's pic that doesn't detract from the attractiveness of the bloom. Fragrance is sweet and pervasive. Now if you want pure white then plant Boule de Neige. Magenta and Taischa have both been disappointing. Each is on their forth year own root and have yet to top 1 foot. I'm not kidding. If I didn't know better I'd think they were miniatures. Magenta's flower are sort ho-hum for a mauve rose. I guess having REINE DES VIOLETTES has spoiled me. The dusky mauve color is rather "flat" in my opinion. As soon as I find the time she is getting replaced by PRETTY JESSICA. TAISCHA on-the-other-hand has flowers that make my jaw drop. They are so beautiful it is impossible to describe adequately but I shall try. Tightly quartered in the middle but with a starry outline in the outer petals, a flower formation that reminds me of some of the older Tea roses. Color is this gorgous shade of lilac. Yes real true "lilac", not mauve nor cool pink or lavender. I define lilac as an equal mix of clear pink and lavender. The fragrance is identical to Sterling Silver. Absolutely stratospheric in both strength and complexity. If she doesn't do better this summer then I'm going to move her to a pot so I can provide maximum coddling. Some roses have flowers that are so beautiful that they are worth diva treatment. Taischa is one of those roses. The picture in the link below is very true to the actual rose. Hi, again. Original poster, here. Thanks for that link -- it's a very extensive list! Unfortunately, my mystery bird wasn't on there. I clicked on every single bird on the list, even ones I'm familiar with. I first heard him in my neighbor's woods about 10 acres away, but this evening I heard him in my own back yard. His call is a little shorter now, but it's still the same "ta-daaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa!" A very clear, single-pitched whistle, no trills or warbles. Anyone else have a guess? My husband's out there now with the binoculars trying to locate him so we can get a better look. I am worried that he's someone's parrot or other type of exotic bird.

Floral - had never thought about it but most certainly true. According to a web search...there are 588 species of conifer. I know just off the top of my head that there are more than that number of Rhododendron species! Conifers certainly cover a lot of the Earth's surface though - so that's got to count for something...

I was thinking that perhaps the lady was a single parent taking over both roles, and that was what she wanted her young daughter to call her, and/or was a trendy thing to do in some circles.

But I guess it's just speculation either way.

Lots of kids have funny names for their parents. A friend's little boy called his daddy "honey", because that's what he heard mom call him. It's cute. :)

Maybe she is a single mom and told the child that she is both dad and mom. Who know why, but it might be confusing to the child in time.

There's really no way of guessing. Could be any of the suggestions made above (single mom, gay couple, etc).

Kids often make up their own terms for things--it could be as simple as that. Years ago, a little neighborhood boy used "Mr." for both men and women. My husband and I were both "Mr. Smith" for an entire summer. Oddly, this year, another neighbor child (no relation to the first one) has started calling us "the boy Mr. Smith" and "The girl Mr. Smith"--cute!

Lesbian couple. I think it's a good solution to the identity problem of two parents of the same gender.

I've never heard it before. Are the answers above speculation or have you heard it before and know that's what it is? I'd have been curious about it, too. I don't know if it's a "standard" for some of the scenarios posted or just a kid's made up term.

So with a lesbian couple is one the daddymommy and the other a mommydaddy? I've never heard it. My guess would be a single parent with a nostril or two in the air.

Could the woman have possibly been the "grandmother," the mother of the little girl's father?

"DaddyMama" is a new one for me.

I have two boys - a precocious 5 year old and a silly 3 year old. I'm sure both have said things in public that make people wonder about me.

Recently, our 3yo loudly proclaimed that daddy doesn't live at home. What strangers can't see is that we have are married, have a great relationship, and daddy works 80 hours a week at a hospital.

My guess is that she was just being a little girl.
