Perhaps the child's parents are gay women, and "daddymommy" is the partner of the child bio mother?

I'm guessing maybe the girl had been confusing the names for her parents - calling mommy, daddy, --and calling daddy, mommy, so they just told her to call them both daddymommy.

Yep, it must mean a gay couple.

I was thinking that perhaps the lady was a single parent taking over both roles, and that was what she wanted her young daughter to call her, and/or was a trendy thing to do in some circles.

But I guess it's just speculation either way.

Gay couple. It means she's not the birth mother & possibly the other woman "is".

I think she is just confused about names.

Lots of kids have funny names for their parents. A friend's little boy called his daddy "honey", because that's what he heard mom call him. It's cute. :)

Maybe she is a single mom and told the child that she is both dad and mom. Who know why, but it might be confusing to the child in time.

There's really no way of guessing. Could be any of the suggestions made above (single mom, gay couple, etc).

Kids often make up their own terms for things--it could be as simple as that. Years ago, a little neighborhood boy used "Mr." for both men and women. My husband and I were both "Mr. Smith" for an entire summer. Oddly, this year, another neighbor child (no relation to the first one) has started calling us "the boy Mr. Smith" and "The girl Mr. Smith"--cute!

Lesbian couple. I think it's a good solution to the identity problem of two parents of the same gender.

I've never heard it before. Are the answers above speculation or have you heard it before and know that's what it is? I'd have been curious about it, too. I don't know if it's a "standard" for some of the scenarios posted or just a kid's made up term.

Could the woman have possibly been the "grandmother," the mother of the little girl's father?

"DaddyMama" is a new one for me.

I have two boys - a precocious 5 year old and a silly 3 year old. I'm sure both have said things in public that make people wonder about me.

Recently, our 3yo loudly proclaimed that daddy doesn't live at home. What strangers can't see is that we have are married, have a great relationship, and daddy works 80 hours a week at a hospital.

My guess is that she was just being a little girl.
