Not that but a girl friend told me a friend of her's always kept her phone in her bra, of all places....After awhile she noticed a lump right where she put the phone and it turned out to be cancerous......SCARY

As a victim of sudden deafness (now in both ears) these urban legends PIZZZ me off.

People do become suddenly and unpredictably deaf but to carry this horrible condition over into the junk science and urban legend fields of cells phones causing this and that is an injustice to those with cancer, deafness and anyone else suffering who are counting on real research to help them, not hearsay and fear mongering.

Both of those absolutely reek of urban legend.

wildchild -- I would not have believed this had it not come from this particular friend -- about her friend, first hand to her, not an 'as told to'. You'd have to know my friend. I've known her for 40 years. She would NEVER gossip or pass on a 'maybe true' story. She is a very earnest person, well-educated, widely traveled, a shrewd investor, school board president, leader in her church, etc. Her words are carefully weighed.

Still...she may have been fooled.

Intelligence has little to do with "belief" systems.

Highly intelligent, shrewd,earnest people can still "believe" things.

Some of the most intelligent sincere people I know are very much into conspiracy theory,aliens,religions etc.

That doesn't make them stupid, simply lacking certain critical thinking skills in some areas. We all have those areas.

Then there are those who are highly intelligent who use people for their own gain. Dr. Oz is highly intelligent but he's still a quack and promotes his quackery.

When stuff happens people want to blame something. Easier to say the cell phone did it than to not know. Coping mechanisms I guess.

But I'm still going with urban legend on these two because it's always a friend of a friend. Like Mary said...it reeks.

The tumor thing has been floating a long time with no real proof either way. I'd be far more inclined to believe it of the old phones because of the higher power. You don't hear any more of the brain tumors on the cell use side so if it was true it doesn't seem to happen anymore. I've heard of women carrying phones in their bras and getting a lump. Of course they'll blame the phone, but I find that hard to believe, especially these days.

I'm also hard-pressed to believe a phone can put out the volume it would take to cause a deafness. The speakers are lousy and it just doesn't make sense. The suspicious part of me is tingling with the question whether someone wants a lawsuit.

I can't say for sure. But just doesn't quite pass the smell test as they say.

There is such a thing as a sudden hearing loss. It happened to DH, and he went to the Dr immediately. There is nothing that can be done except take prednisone, and he is allergic to it. Most of it did come back, but it is scary. We even contacted the Mayo Clinic and they agreed with our doctors. I am not saying something did not happen, but just curious if the person did go to the Dr. to have it checked out as soon as it happened to see if there was any nerve damage?

I HAVE sudden hearing loss. I just lost my good ear less than 3 weeks ago. The prognosis is not good. I am now profoundly deaf in both ears.

Yes I was a "hearie" one day who could communicate and in a time frame of about 15 minutes I became profoundly DEAF!!!! (between 3:30 am and 4:00am on August 31st)

That is why this kind of BS burns my butt.

I cannot process speech at this time at all. It is unlikely that hearing aids can help me out much if at all. I may be a candidate for a Cochlear Implant.

I have horrid tinitus 24/7 (running toilet nose with periodic bells or beeps) and when amongst more than one person at a time speaking it sounds like a bug zapper or a hornet's nest at rock concert volume.

I am taking massive doses of Preds. Doctors do not know what causes sudden deafness (there are many reasons they know of such as a possible viruses and meningitis but I assure you cells phones would not be on the upper list. If cell phones caused deafness then so would hearing aids and Cochlear Implants!!!
