Are there security cameras in the complex? If she keyed the cars it'd be there on film to see. I guess you and the other neighbor would have to put in a formal complaint about your cars getting keyed (do NOT mention your suspicions about by whom), and ask them to view the tapes.

Nope, no cameras here. I've thought I wish I could find a way to secretly install one to see if any further damage is done. If we parked in front of our Apt. I could put one in our window, but we park down on the other end of the lot so we can come in a door and not deal with stairs. I'm thinking that now that she knows people are suspecting her of 'using her keys' she wouldn't dare do it again. It would be too obvious. I do think we, along with the other neighbor with scratches to her car, should put in a call to the police and report the damage with out naming anyone. Just to have it on record.

Yes, have the police come to the apartments and talk to the people who had the car vandalized. Maybe she will scream at him/her. But at least the people will have it on file. By the way, how is your new to your apartment doing? Have a great day.

Definitely make a police report--one rarely knows definitely who did the damage in these cases, but you need to have it on record. If for no other reason that you will need that report to send to your insurance company. They will expect to see proof that you've done your part and reported it.

Cops sniffing around may deter her from doing any other doors.

And might make her think twice about doing other sneaky things to get back at people that she has a mad at.

Do a Google search for "keying car" and several related matters will come up. It is considered vandalism which is a crime.

Watch for nails under your tires too.

Definitely make a police report. If you can, get the marks repaired and submit a claim to your car insurance company-very likely it's covered in your policy. Sorry your neighbor is such a sick person.

I don't know of any apartments with security cameras on the parking lots. Making a police report is a good idea but as you know it won't go anywhere. Filing a claim with the insurance company is probably not worthwhile either. With it being an older car, I would imagine you might not even have coverage and could have a deductible.

It's maddening. It's frustrating. I have to go to parking lots a lot unfortunately and my nearly spotless vehicle is showing the results. But in the end, it's a piece of machinery that does a job and better it be scratched, dented and bruised than me.

I wouldn't even consider moving. You like it there and shouldn't be bullied out. Hopefully *she* will move. It'd be great if you could set up a camera but there too, it's an expense, a hassle and what it would produce is dubious. If I did set one up though, I wouldn't do it secretly. I'd put up a big sign "YOU'RE ON CAMERA!" That in itself can be a deterrent. If you wanted to, you could mention you're seeing if others would join you in setting up cameras to watch the place, in front of or so it gets back to the suspect.

One Halloween, somebody keyed all the cars that were parked on our street. We reported it to the police, left the scratches (didn't get them repaired). I noticed more police patrols on pour street afdter that. Apparently others reported it. It's called "vandalism" and it is a crime.
