Hi Teach !! Just wanted to ask. Did the kids commission that or did one of the parents find it by accident? So happy --you are happy !! Teachers, parents, clergy. All so very important in our lives. My "fav" teacher died 3 weeks ago. I had her in the 11th grade. She was 85 when she died. You would not believe the outpouring of love from her 25 years of students. She brought every book we read to life with her knowledge and enthusiasm. The Scarlet Letter never had such a good Hester !! Congrats and I know you will have bright and fun students next year, as your personality will bring out the best in them. Cece

Thanks again, everyone. The goodies bags were a hit. I got them really cute little notebooks and mechanical pens, masks, mustaches, glow in the dark necklaces and one, plain Hershey bar. But I am actually writing to pass along a great idea. One of my daughter's class mates made up Valentines that were so cute. It was a little snack size bag of cereal (I think they are Golden Grahams). Stapled across the top was a label that said ,in script, "I cerealsly hope you have a Happy Valentine's Day". A clear plastic spoon was attached with a pink ribbon, and the child wrote the "to" and "from" names in pink marker. I loved it, and so did my DD.

Wow. OJ, I don't remember what the story was called either, and I'm decades later, but I know that story about the sun and the wind. When I was four I asked to be shown how to read, and my folks had Fun with Dick and Jane, which had been left behind by a primary teacher (Mother's past roommate), so that was my first reading book. My father told me the words in the first two chapters, said, "Now you know how to read, kid," and left me to it. I'd occasionally ask what a new word was, then go back to reading. This was a lot different than my other books, like Dr. Seuss(many titles), Hello, Peter and The Snowy Day, because it's not really reading when you already know the story and remember the words. The stories in Fun with Dick and Jane might have been silly, but they were all new to me and I read the whole book. And then I read everything else. :) The reader we had in first grade, even though it was the first one in the series, was less beginning--the beginning groups had charts and workbooks--and the stories were more like actual stories. The only thing I remember, besides an orange cover, was that there was a grandmother who lived on a farm and spoke really good English and behaved differently than any of the grandmothers I'd ever met, let alone just mine.

I am diabetic and this year I got a pair of Bio Fit shoes thru the foot doctor. They have definitely helped me. But expensive. Since I am old and on medicare, medicare pays for one pair of diabetic shoes per year. I am going to by myself another pair,. Quick question......I have been getting pictures of all of my grandkids on the first day of school...........are you going to take your pic on the first day of school.....sign and all? LOL!
