My father passed away last night

We just put him in hospice. he had renal failure and his heart was blocked. He was 92, had macular degeneration for years but could still manuever to help my mom. She had a stroke last summer.

He always wanted to go the day after her. The two of them were so rarely apart and were such a good match.

I admired him for his integrity and how well respected he was. He grew up in the depression. He always said he wished he could have given us more. We've tried to tell him he gave us so much more than he thought. We had great family times together. He took us to Yankee ball games, he took my sister and me to see a National women's fast pitch team play when they came around. He told us we could do great things yet yelled when I told him I was cutting the grass. He thought my DH should be doing that, lol.

With 3 driving teens in the house, he always let one of us use his car. He'd get a ride to a lodge or church meeting.

And the time my GF's car broke down at 2am, and GF didn't want to call her mom cause she'd get mad, my dad came to get us, 30 miles away when he had to get up for work in 3 hours and never said a word.

Please keep my mom in your prayers. They had 62 years together and she's facing being alone for the first time. She just wants to be with him.

    Yes honey, you can go on. You have seen you Father alive, and now have a confermation that life goes on beyond death. Ask his friends and family to write you his stories. Or to just tell you his stories. It will help you to know him as a man, as a person, as a father. Collect thier memories and all the photos you can get your hands on. Research him. You may not want to hear this part but I have to say it any way so here goes... Stop drinking. It does not help. Getting drunk will break your spirit quicker than anything else you expierence in this life, only you wont see it until its too late. Sending you prayers, and peace of mind. Vicki

    My heartfelt condolences to you and your family. I especially feel sorry for your mother. My parents have been together for almost 63 years, and it's hard to imagine one without the other.

    You paint such a beautiful, compassionate, wonderful picture of a man that you obviously adored.
    I think a parent can only hope that they leave a wonderful legacy for their children, he has done just that.

    I think you should sit down, and write your memories of your dad as you think of them for the next year or so. A wonderful gift to give your children, nieces or nephews down the road. You tell life stories so well.

    I am sorry that you have lost your dad, but your memories are bigger than life itself.

    Sympathies for you and your family. It sounds like you have some good memories...hold on to those! My parents were together 66 years and never went anywhere without each other. It was a true match made in heaven. It's pretty rare to find your life long partner and live out such long lives together. Very special! God Bless your mom and dad. Many prayers for her, she will be so lonesome, be there for her.

    Your dad sounds like quite a guy. It's understandable that you heart breaks as such an amazing fellow moves on to a place we can hardly imagine. I hope your mom can manage on her own and finds peace knowing he only want her happiness.
    Maybe he can send his family tidbits of himself like dotmom is experiencing. If not, you have been lucky to have such a man in your life, memories like that are priceless.

    For now though, during your mourning, all my sympathy to you and the family.

    I'm very sorry for your loss, and the loss to the world. I fear for us as the generations who lived through truly hard times leave us and we lose their knowledge and wisdom. 92 years though, that's just wonderful!

    My dad would have been 91 in July. (He died in 2001.) That generation WAS the greatest! My sincere sympathies to you and your family in the loss of someone so special to you.

    Men like your precious Father are huge in my eyes for passing by example their wonderful traits to thier children, who pass it along to theirs, and it goes on and on.
