I know, I saw this header on Fox News: "Gordon Ramsay 'Kitchen Nightmares' Chef Commits Suicide"

Weirdly written, but I should've READ the darned article, ROTFL! Still a VERY, very sad story and I hope Gordon understands how dangerous his comments can be- this is the SECOND suicide he's caused. :(

Haley.. I don't believe Gordon caused any suicides. From the article I read "He (the chef) was honored to have his restaurant featured on an episode of 'Gordon Ramsay's Kitchen Nightmares' and the television experience was thrilling for him."
I've watched Kitchen Nightmares and Gordon can be harsh. but by the end of the episode the restaurant owners usually have great respect for Ramsey and gratitude for his help.

I agree with Lydia, I don't believe Ramsey caused any suicides.

You definitely cannot lay these suicides at GR's feet. He's dealing with people who didn't have the ability to handle their own affairs in the first place--they let their establishments get into deep trouble, they don't have the knowledge or skill to fix things themselves. Aditionally, they KNOW what the show is and STILL are willing to sell their souls for the perks. Furthermore, the audition process tries to find characters to make the show interesting. Generally speaking, a lot of these people are pretty damaged one way or another before they even meet Gordon Ramsey. But that's just one opinion, of course.

I was in the middle of doing some other stuff when I came across that headline and I knew many people at the KT like him, so I didn't take the time to read everything, argh!

As for the "causing" the suicides, you're right that he didn't necessarily make them happen, but I do believe that he pushed mentally unstable people over the line in the name of entertainment.

I love his show and I really like him too.....I think his bark is way worse than his bite, and much of it is for TV anyway, and I would hope that anyone that signs up for a TV reality show has an idea of what they are getting in to.

I enjoy watching Hell's Kitchen. He does have a big bite!

My opinion is pretty much the same as Azzalea's. People who agree to be on tv on these type of shows have issues already.

The notion that someone can be said to have caused someone to commit suicide is just plain wrong. People who lose loved ones through suicide suffer enough undeserved guilt. Ideas like that only promote that sort of guilt. The only one responsible for a suicide is the the person who takes their own life often leaving others to pick up the pieces.

Suicide is self-inflicted.

The Associated Press article I just read said that his restaurant had experienced a rebound since he was on the show. But think about it: Just how much pressure is there on a chef to succeed? How many employees are counting on him to succeed? It's not just a chef and his/her own family, and their finances, that are on the line.

I forgot to mention I don't watch his show.

Totally unfair to say someone else causes a suicide. Equally unfair is to judge someone committing suicide or blame them for what's left behind. Few people know the situation the person feels that would make them take their life and those who would say it's a cowardly thing to do likely have no idea what they're talking about. It is sort of an ultimate deed one would do and quite frankly it would take a lot of courage to commit suicide IMO. What's "nothing" to you and me can be unbearable to another. What's nothing to me, may be unbearable to you and so on.

That said, it is strange that this guy killed himself. But again, not much info is available either so there could easily be a lot of background stuff.

Did anyone notice the article said this man was the second to take his life. Both of them had been on the show. Odd.

I saw a story on TV news this morning. They interviewed the owners of a restaurant in New Jersey that was on Kitchen Nightmares 3 years ago. The owners said the show brought them great publicity, they are still open and business is great. So I don't think being on a popular TV show is related to anyone's suicide. If anyone commits suicide, he or she probably had been depressed for quite a while, not caused by a few "choice" curse words from Gordon Ramsay.

Yes, LOL the title of the post made me go WHAT??? and the go that's gotta be a hoax. But in fairness, the headline on the article was extremely poorly worded, albeit not unusual for the source. I suspect tabloid sensationalism.

The main point to me though is that Cerniglia was on the show 3 years ago! For the sake of argument let's say he did get upset with being told he's running things into the ground. It took 3 *years* for it to be the last straw? Nothing happened in between to make him jump? I doubt it.

Rachel's death came a year at least after being on Hell's Kitchen for what, only 4 or 5 episodes? I'm sure there's other shows whether they be Orca Windbag, Dr. Fail, Springer's Trailer Trash Tryouts or any number of shows where people have committed suicide sometime after their appearance and nobody suggests a connection to them. Suicide happens. Unfortunate, but it does. Some examples:
⢠Ryan Alexander Jenkins, a former participant on VH1 reality series "Megan Wants a Millionaire" and "I Love Money," was found dead in a Canadian motel room amid allegations that he had earlier murdered his ex-wife in a most gruesome way.

⢠Paula Goodspeed killed herself in front of Paula AbdulâÂÂs house after she was bounced from auditions on "American Idol.âÂÂ

⢠Growing Pain's "Boner" committed suicide in a Park.

⢠Cheryl Kosewicz, killed herself after being bounced from the show âÂÂPirate MastersâÂÂ. Her suicide happened just two months after Kosewicz's boyfriend, Ryan O'Neil, committed suicide himself.

I won't go on but âÂÂSupernanny", "Wife Swap", "The Contender", âÂÂCelebrity Big Brotherâ and more shows have had people commit suicide after their appearances.

Anyone who watches his shows closely should see that Ramsay is a very caring and compassionate person. He harps on people to do their best but when someone is really down, he really tries to build them up. What's the first thing he does when the winner of Hell's Kitchen walks through the door? Every time I've see him grab the loser before the other is through the door and console them, tells them how well they performed and the like.

Lost in the kerfuffle is that Ramsay and Cerniglia have stayed in touch since the show. I suspect people don't understand that these shows are edited. There's hours upon hours of tape cut down to a 20-30 minute show run in 1/2 hr to an hour. The editors control what you see and you need to be careful about how you base your opinions from that limited info.

I went back and watched that episode again. Cerniglia is a person who probably would have been far better being an employee than a boss. He stressed out very easily at least at the time. And watching the way Ramsay handled his wife was very heartwarming, though not unusual.

And I think Ramsay's far from horrible for reasons stated before and more that I won't go into. And foul mouth? At times, yes, but again, much is edited to *keep* that in there (it's part of the show's schtick), and when you look at the big picture, he's no more foul mouthed than a lot of other celebrities, religious leaders, politicians and others and I won't go into naming them either.
