I grew up on hominy and still eat it often.

Like white hominy the best.

Just open can pour into boiler pan.

I like to slice precooked sausage links, not a lot but a few for seasoning.

Just heat and seasonings blended with hominy and serve.

Prefer salt and pepper as seasoning. That's me! I'm happy!

Only restaurant in town that serves hominy just adds butter but I always ask them to drain before adding to plate.

I avoid it.

I have only used it a few times in 'Posle', a Mexican soup, so yummy.

We eat it plain...with salt and pepper.

I mostly ignore it on the store shelves... as I have never eaten it, when I liked it.

I agree with lindylu.

I used to heat it in a pan and add a little butter. Now I just eat it from the can. I love it. My mom used to serve it when I was growing up.

Count me in the "avoid it" camp.

My Mother always used white hominy and it was always served creamed with a bit of sugar and butter. That is the only way I like it. None of the rest of the family like it. I do, only creamed though.

Wow! I didn't realize so many people avoided it. I like it. I just don't ever think to use it because I don't have a lot of recipes for it.

I looked up how to use hominy. Food network had a few different suggestions.

I like to fry it in bacon grease.....but usually don't.
I like it in pozole best.
Years ago at a work potluck someone made a hominy and green chile casserole.....similar to the rice and green chile one but with hominy. It was delicious.

The green chile casserole sounds good. I just looked up a recipe. May have to try it. Not sure that I've ever seen chopped red pepper in a can though.

No red pepper was in the one I ate but I bet you could roast your own red peppers.

I'm amazed that this still exists when there's no longer any reason to preserve food by soaking it in lye. Reminds me of another tasteless food: Lutefisk (lye-preserved cod). Can there be any nutrition left after being preserved this way?

Hmm... not sure about nutrition Chisue, but I know that hominy doesn't taste anything like Lutefisk!

Anyway, I never ate hominy as a kid, and not for years and years as an adult. Just doesn't look that great, nobody I knew cooked with it, and I had no reason to try it. Then I ran across a white chicken chili recipe that called for hominy and that was an absolutely delicious recipe! I don't know how much the hominy contributed but that chili was good enough that I will definitely be willing to try hominy if I run across it in another recipe, and might even pick up a can or two and try a couple of the ideas mentioned here!

Lutefisk, I tried once, and plan to avoid it in the future. Once you got past the smell, the fist couple of small bites weren't too bad, when dipped in melted butter, but after that it got pretty disgusting. I guess, for me, a little went a long, long way and I should have stopped while I was ahead :-)

I like hominy! Have a can in my cabinet for future eating :o)

I like hominy, too, and use it in Taco Soup in place of whole kernel corn. To my way of thinking the hominy gives the taco soup a more authentic Mexican taste.

Sorry I even mentioned lutefisk; just came to mind because of the lye. I can't believe even the Danes really *like* it. Makes me wonder what other disgusting 'cultural' dishes go on and on just because they are *traditional*! Haggis? (Never had it, but it sounds unpleasant.)

I don't think corn has much nutritional value in any form.

I tried haggis while on a trip to Scotland.....not impressed with it. I also had my first (and last) taste of lutefisk a couple of years ago at our annual church lutefisk supper. I thought it was pretty horrible. I could not believe how many people came from far and near to have that miserable stuff.

Grains of all kinds- wheat, rice, corn, etc--offer dense calories, often high glycemic values and little else. A lot of obesity (and related health problems) would be reduced by people eating lesser amounts of empty carbs like grains.
