Howdy! As you know my first surgery was Tuesday. So I have incredible vision in one eye! It's still a little blurry but he said that it often takes several weeks for everything to settle down. I had my follow up visit yesterday.

I'm on a similar schedule with all of the drops, but my applications stop after two weeks, except for the steroid drops. Plus....I start the routine on my other eye on Sunday, as my second eye will be done on Tuesday, too.

I'm extremely glad that I don't have to wait longer than that as the difference in vision between my eyes is soooo huge that my eyesight is pretty off kilter.

My doctor said that he gave me enough nearsightedness in the new lens so that I won't be helpless without 'readers'. What a blessing it all is.

The surgery itself was fascinating.....quite a color and light show! I was very mildly sedated, never put to sleep or even near. I was in the car within ten minutes of the surgery, seriously.

They gave me a clear plastic shield to wear over the eye, afixed with a couple of pieces of tape. I wore it all that first day and then at night for a week. It's perfectly comfortable.

I've had absolutely no discomfort whatsoever other than a slight irritation of my eyelids for a few hours after the procedure, either from the betadine scrub or the clamps.

I've been treating my eyes and face very gently, avoiding my usual lotions and creams and makeup. Just being conscious of this new foreign body at all times.

So, tell your husband not to worry, to enjoy the experience! I can't wait until my other one is done. It'll be a miracle for me having had such terrible vision for my entire life.

Jasdip, just wanted to mention that the drops can sting a little at first, but I don't feel them at all anymore.

If he was prescribed a steroidal drop, it needs to be given a good shake before using.

Rhizo, that's wonderful! Good to hear it's going so well.

Great news Rhizo. Soon you will be able to say "I can see clearly now." I had both of my cataracts removed. I did have problems with the first one....some scar tissue buildup, but a simple painless laser treatment in the office took care of that. Then my eyes felt very dry and the doctor put plugs in both tear ducts which helped that problem. Hoping your second surgery is as successful as this first one. Use those drops faithfully, and yes, shake the bottles before using.

Thanks so much for the details Rhizo!!! Yes, he has one that needs to be shaken, so that's a steroid. He's looking forward to "the light show" Hahahahaa.

What gets me is that we have to be there 3 hours early. Similar to general anesthetic surgeries. We'll be at the hospital for 8:30, hopefully he gets in at a reasonable time :)

We were discussing glasses this morning as per my eye exam thread. He buys readers at Costco and really likes them. He just realized that they will be too strong, so will need to buy more. LOL

Apparently, the lazer adjustment is very common. I was told about it during my first consultation appointment. It's even considered a non-billable procedure.

Jasdip, I wonder why the long wait prior to the surgery? I was told to not have anything by mouth after midnight; I signed in at 6:30, was ushered to the prep room by 7:00 where there was nonstop activity for a good hour....then into the surgical room. Abracadabra....I was back home not too long after that.

My doctor does all of his surgical procedures in a great surgical center, shared by several other doctors for their minor outpatient stuff. Boy, talk about streamlined! Wonderfully efficient and well trained staff, it's really something.

Jasdip, I've been keeping all of my drops (three different kinds) together in a small Ziploc bag. It helps keep them all corralled together in their original packing. I'll pick up refills on all of them today so I can start the routine on my other eye tomorrow.

I think that's wonderful that you are getting both eyes a week apart. It means putting drops in both eyes though, at different schedules!

Hubby has to wait a month between eyes, which is pretty much the norm.

Just reading this thread to answer hubby's questions about cataracts (things I've forgotten). I had both of mine done two years ago and had them done a week apart. I got a spiral notebook and divided the pages in columns so I could keep the drops and times needed checked off. I don't think I could have kept it straight otherwise because of reducing times on some and taking some more times daily and at different times.
The three hours early might be because of having it done in a hospital. Mine were done there and they go thru a lot of procedures/paperwork that seems quicker in a surgery center. Isn't it great to see clearly again?

I'm still in disbelief about my vision. I'm not sure that I ever saw clearly, really. I probably should have had my eyes tested before I started school.

So THIS is miraculous for me. :-)

Jasdip, how has your husband done with the drops? Robert is one of those who finds it very difficult to put drops in but I have no problem just tilting my head back and opening my eye, holding the dropper way above me.

I put drops in one of my eyes often because of a dry eye. Hubby was fumbling and I explained to tilt his head back and look at the ceiling. He's got the hang of it I think. He hasn't asked me to do it, anyway.

I also told him to close his eyes to let the liquid go all over his eyeball. Do you do that?

I also gently pull the bottom lid down while closing my eye for a few seconds. That seems to give the drop a place to run without losing any. Blink after a few seconds to distribute the medication.

I was given three medicated drops plus a moisture drop. Two of the meds have to be used 4X per day, the other one just in the morning. Does he wait at least ten minutes in between drops?

Just wondering....every med is different.

This is his -pre surgery regime. Tomorrow is surgery, and he has a single-use med that he puts in once/day. They are individually packaged.
The other is the steroid that is a weaning-off schedule. 4xday/week, then 3xday etc. The bottle has to be shaken before using.

I'll tell him to wait in between applications of the two kinds.

Today's Update!!!

Spent the morning at the hospital for the surgery. We were at the hospital at 8:30 as per orders. Made sure the paperwork was done correctly, and waited in the waiting room. Escorted to a day bed and drops put in eyes and iv inserted. Waited a while longer and hubby was wheeled in for surgery.

His operation was scheduled for 11:30. He was out in about 10 minutes and we went back to the day surgery and he had a snack of juice and cookies. All is well, he had a Blast, he said!! The iv was for a mild relaxant.

He had a clear eye patch and the dr said to take it off when we come home and not even to wear it at nite. However, I feel better if he does wear it while sleeping. He will wear it tonite for sure.

Not surprising to hear that such surgery goes so well. It's fast, simple and successful. Great reports from people who have had it, and if you need it, quit worrying.

I'm a little upset. I believe that my doctor made an adjustment to my prescription that I was not expecting nor would have agreed to. Between last week's eye and today's .....my vision stinks. You would not believe how long it has taken me to write this. I was doing better before this surgery today.

Granted, it has only been a few hours and I know that I need to give my eye at leadt 24 hours to settle down. At this point, unless there 's a big improvement, I won't even be able tl drive.

I am one very unhappy person right now.
