Anyone ever have an iridotomy? — hole made with a laser into your iris as an optional treatment for (?) ”acute angle glaucoma”?

I have modest cataracts in each eye, but can drive without glasses. Having cataract surgery is one option fr treating closed or narrow angles. My intraoccular pressure is normal in both eyes, but ophthalmologist tells me that will narrow or closed angles, I could suddenly have a crisis with eye pain, headaches and a risk of vision loss.

There is, she said, some risk of an eye glare side effect with a laser iridotomy ( wherein a laser is used to make a perforation/hole in your iris so that the intraoccular fluid can escape and not build up. However this doesn’t seem acceptable to me. No thanks for any glare.

Another alternative treatment is cataract surgery, even though my cats (cataracts) are not that bad, eventually I would probably want cataract surgery. I kmow it’s a common and well tolerated procedure, but any surgery like that wigs me out a bit. Plus, I am hypertactile and finicky. I would then have to where eyeglasses and don’t care to. I am a bird watcher and binoculars are annoyi g with eyeglasses. Rain and boat splash lands on they. Its hard to watch TV half recumbant with trifocals. I don’t like hair on any crap around my face and eyes. Grrrrr.

I’m not sure that I’m comfortable leaving the close or acute angle unaddressed. I might be faced with a vision crisis in a snowstorm — already I am a long car ride to Boston for any emergency visit.

Anyone have to deal with a similar situation? Thanks for your feedback.
