It Rained!!!

We got a decent thunderstorm here is northwest Houston this morning! That should help green up our lawn a little bit! We quit watering as much as needed due to restrictions and the prohibitive water bill. We're VERY thankful for the rain.

Hope you get more. Someone just sent me a bunch of pictures of Lake Travis. What devastation the drought has caused. My heart goes out to you and everyone in that part of the country.

well i picked the pod from the 7 pot brown and 1 guy backed out on the taste test so me and the other guy halved it ...... had a real good fruity flavor then a few seconds later the heat was quite intense my buddy starting using his Tea as mouth wash ... lol first it hit the back of the throat then moved to the top of the tongue seemed a bit hotter then the 7 pot reds i have tried . will have to run a few more test i will let the next ripe one sit on the plant for a couple weeks to build up more heat

Well, lucky you, Glenda! As Carol said, we got a little dribble from Mother Nature the other day, but nothing much. Sure hope we get some more this winter. We need it, our trees and shrubs need it.

In georgia we was without rain for over 3 weeks with highs reaching the mid 90's. All fescue lawns I seen was drying out and turning brown, My bermuda looked great with a couple of stress areas(areas that stayed in the sun the longest), But the last 5 days we have gotten over 7 inches of rain. The bermuda is a dark green/bluish color(Looks great). Ill take a pic this evening

That is a non poisonous checkered garter snake. These aren't the kind that give you coronaries. You can pick him up and all he will do is piss on you. Some of these guys come with pretty colors on them and get much larger. They are right down in the center of town too. I had them in my yard when I lived on Deep Eddy 2 blocks from the river. I had a 6' rat snake down there that made me take a deep breath. And an even larger Brown snake that I found wrapped in a tree branch by my path. It made the tree so exotic all of a sudden in a Adam & Eve way. I am surprised you never saw them in Vegas. Every other city I haver been in out that way like Phoenix Tucson Santa fe Albuquerque had LOTS of snakes and they all seemed able to send me to the hospital. In 40 years that I have lived in Austin area I have only had 1 run in with a Rattlesnake in my garden and that had a good ending for both of us.

YES!!! we got a really good rain yesterday afternoon and another bit this morning. It is amazing, as I look at my back yard that has been just totally brown, already there is green peaking through! My hope is that it is my St.Augustine and not just weeds but I am delighted to see anything green!
We need quite a bit more but this is a good start and we are very thankful! the trees are smiling!

So glad to hear Texas got a little rain, it would be great if the whole state got a deluge! We sure could use some here in Ga. but at least we haven't been hit by all the horrible fires that Texas has (thank God).

as you can see on the current fire activity map it sure did help there are not near as many fires active now.
Plus we are forecasted to get more this week!

Hey, ravencajun....that's good to know! Had not looked at the fire map today, so I was unaware. 2 of the guys I work with had that latest George Bush Park fire within 1.5 miles of their houses. That's scary!

It is so warm and DRY here. I can take heat, but not dry heat. Ready for some rain!

Just had a pretty good downpour up in NE Tx even had a code Red call about it but I dont think it will last thru the night.
I can hear the grass and bushes crying out loud for joy!!

it is truly amazing to see green sprouting out of the ground! It seemed like we could watch it happening, we left to go buy groceries yesterday and when we came back our front yard that had been totally brown was green with fresh tender shoots of grass!! The trees look greener too. I hope and pray it was not to late for my Oak and the big pine, the Oak has one huge brown limb that is over the house but the other side of the tree is still green and now there are green shoots coming out of the bark lower down on it. The big pine had just started to look a little pale, I think it may make it.
My neighbor however had 2 big pines in the back that are definitely dead and a big oak right in his front yard that is dead, I think every azalea bush in this area is dead. He had a huge group of azaleas in the front yard and they are fried crispy. Mine look ok since they are in my front bed and I kept the timed soaker hoses in there.

I hope it keeps giving us these nice showers every day for a while, they need a much bigger drink!
