Brother had heart attack

Please keep my brother & family in your thoughts. He had a heart attack Sat.night & is in surgery now for a quad bypass. I am in Iowa & will see Sandy this afternoon. I am waiting for work as to how he is, but it will not be for several more hours, and we have little cell signal. Surgery started at 7am EST.

Wow!! That is some very important information ALL women should know! Why are they not telling us?? Or more importantly, why isn't it common knowledge? Ridiculous. One of my friends had a mild heart attack not too long ago. She told me that she woke up from a dead sleep (so to speak), and she couldn't catch her breath. She soon lost consciousness, but luckily, her hubby was home (very luckily, since he's a long-haul truck driver and is gone a LOT). She's fine now, thank God. Another friend of mine also had a mild heart attack (uhhh, maybe I need to find new friends?! LOL Just kidding!). She said her only symptom was dizziness, before finally losing consciousness. Luckily (again), she was on the phone with her sister, who promptly dialed 911. She's also fine now. Stay safe, ladies! Brenda

Just got a call this morning from the hospital. He's scheduled for an angioplasty tomorrow morning. Going in today for blood work, tests, instructions, etc. He's feeling a bit better. Just glad to have someone finally do something. He's been having chest pains for quite awhile. He's got stomach troubles too..hiatus hernia and GERD (acid reflux). He had trouble breathing this morning..saying it felt like his stomach pushing into his lungs. When he was brought into emergency Friday, he told the ER doc all about his stomach problems. The doc said he believed a SMALL portion of his medical problems probably is due to his stomach but he wanted to go another way and check his heart. Heartburn causes chest pain too but maybe it's not that...so we'll know how healthy his heart is tomorrow. If he does have some blockage, they might put in stents (depending on how bad it is).

Lindac's post sent shivers down my spine. Please, please, please don't let your health care professionals dismiss a potentially serious situation. My father was diagnosed with Alzheimer's when he was in his early 70's. This was in the mid-1970's before anything was really known about the disease. He was a college professor, and for years we would call him the "absent-minded professor" when he did 'odd' things. My mom and I always thought there was something more to it than simple forgetfullness, but at that time there were no studies being done, no research to speak of. He started exhibiting this unusual behavior while in his 50's, while I was an adolescent. When we would mention it to freinds/family/doctors, they would tell us it was nothing to worry about. They attributed his behavior to stress, overwork, and more often than not, to his 'artistic temperment/personality' (he was a muralist/artist and art teacher). He eventually went in to a nursing home in NYC affiliated with Mt. Sinai hospital. He was there 2 1/2 years until his death. After he died (in 1981), Mt. Sinai started some of the first research on Alzheimers. Do not settle for casual answers, dismissive responses, or lack of urgency on the part of his doctors. And don't let him be the one to decide if or when he seeks medical attention. Whatever is causing these symptoms needs to be taken seriously, and done so without delay. Bless you and yours, I know it is a stressful time for you. My DBIL woke my sister up Friday morning about 1 AM sweating and having problems breathing. At the hospital he was stablized and then had a massive coronary attack. He died about 2 AM and he was 41 years old. No high blood pressure or cholesterol. My sister's faith is strong and she is doing much better emotionally than I would have expected her too. I don't know if the sudden deaths are easier than the long illnesses. tami with the surgery done today and good follow up care, i'm sure your db will have an excellent outcome...my uncle within weeks was walking a mile a day, and still attends his local hospital's wellness clinic...

hope that call comes soon and best wishes to the family and drs doing the surgery!

I posted a seperate update last night. They had him up today, but he is exhausted. asked no visitors. All I know, I posted in last night's update. 5 way bypass, instead of 4. Everything went as expected. Probably hereditary, as heart runs in Dad's side. They eat mostly chicken.
