Anyone have experience with shortness of breath?

I've had shortness of breath for well over a month. It began gradually, when I noticed I was breathing a lot harder than usual after walking up a short hill. Then one day I had trouble taking a deep breath. I had just come outside to walk among my flowers and see what had bloomed during the night. It's one of my favorite things to do, so it seemed odd tome that my chest would be tight. (I was assuming at the time that it had something to do with stress.)

When it was constant for a couple of weeks I went reluctantly to the doctor. He said he didn't think it was my heart. I didn't think so either, because I had a very active spring and summer in the garden, digging rose holes and mowing the lawn, etc. In fact, two days before seeing the doctor I dug most of a deep grave for my cat Princeton. It was tough going, and I had to stop often to catch my breath, but I didn't have chest paints.

He sent me for a chest x-ray and pulmonary function test, both of which were normal, thank heavens. Now I'm scheduled tomorrow for that nuclear stress test I wrote about in another thread, to rule out heart disease. I have lots of heart disease on both sides of my family, which is why I've been so strict about my diet for years. But fibromyalgia has made regular exercise difficult to impossible, and I haven't been good about that.

So it's possible that heart disease is the culprit, and I probably should post this after the stress test. But I was wondering if anyone else had shortness of breath for whatever reason. It sounds weird, but I keep having the feeling that my stomach is involved. I've had stomach problems for over a year, and while I've improved that by giving up various foods (I'm running out of things to eat!), I still have some upper abdominal issues. A friend told me she gets shortness of breath when her pancreas acts up.

Any words of wisdom for me?

Thanks!

Susan
