I think she wears some sort of heel constantly. I read an article the other day about how she had to wear flats one day because of an injury and it made headlines, lol. While I wouldn't wear them because I hate heels, I'm sure she feels completely confident and steady. She doesn't strike me as the type that would choose fashion over the safety of her kids. She's always come across as a good mom to me.

Plus, shoes that cost as much as she spends on them are generally really good quality and less likely to lead to catastrophe.

You're right, though--she does wear them all the time. If the foot doctors are right about the damage done by high heels, I can't imagine what she's doing to herself. It'll show up in her later years....

Yep, I agree with the damage part. I can't see how heels like that are at all healthy to the feet yet there are many women who wear some sort of heel all the time. Hopefully she's light enough to avoid major damage!

One difference is that foot binding was done to young girls who had no say in the matter. Another is that they deliberately inflicted damage--not over time, but immediately. But I agree with your point, Rosemary. It was all for "beauty"--i.e., in hopes of arousing men. Craziness, when you think about it. We really ought to be able to achieve that without resorting to such artifice.

I must not be very feminine because I think these are ugly. Why is she trying at be sexy when she's happily married with four kids? I wore small heels years ago..now I wear ballerina shoes as dress ones, Birkenstocks, boat shoes, Crocs and Nikes the rest of the time. Never ever had any foot or back problems. These women are throwing their spinal column out of sync.

I don't find that type of heel attractive on anyone. I don't know how she manages to walk in high heels, unfortunately she also has fairly large bunions on each foot. Maybe the woman with her acts as her 'spotter'.

I think she feels she has to always look sexy so her husband doesn't stray. David Beckham is very handsome, and there have been rumors. I don't find those particular shoes attractive, but I do think women's legs look better in a high heel. However, I think they are taking it to the extreme with 5 and 6 inch heels. I could never wear a shoe like that without twisting my ankle, but then I am always in flat shoes of some kind or another.

I only wear flats. I hate heels,even tho I'm short and could use the added height.

I was a skater. I carried my kids all the time on roller skates. I was just as stable on rollers at the time as on my own two feet in slippers. Probably more so actually since a on of skaters used to joke we had 2 left feet on the ground. I am a horrible dancer off wheels for example. LOL

On the other hand if I saw a parent at the rink who who was just a recreational skater I would a tell them not to carry their child.

But it comes down to what you are used to.

When I was growing up my friend's mom had worn high heels so much when she was young that she couldn't wear flats anymore. Her feet and calves had just become so accustom to them that flat shoes caused her pain. She even had to wear high heels around the house.

I think heels that high do not look attractive, and most women I see wearing them walk like horses.

Jenn, we had a neighbor like that when I was growing up, too. She did her housework in high hells heels. (That was a real typo, but I thought I'd leave it in since it seemed appropriate.) :-)

Zeetera, I took a look at that article. I wonder if she had the surgery......otherwise, I can't imagine why she'd keep wearing heels and putting herself in what must be real misery. Oh, and those no-heel $5,000+ boots are "rebolting," as my son used to say when he was little.

IGNORANT!!!!!!!!!!! That's my one word for it, the whole thing, a woman wearing those shoes under any circumstances and especially carrying a baby around and just positively IGNORANT!!!!!!!! I've pretty much decided that people have completely lost their freakin' minds! GAH! As my husband loves to say "if they had a brain they'd play with it in the sandbox".

OMG, Victoria Beckham has been walking around in heels like that for years. She's in no more danger of falling over than I am in flats!

Her total heel height is about 4 inches, given the platform. My grandmother wore 4" heels everywhere outside the house, and her slippers inside had 2.5- 3" heels. And she's been dead for 30 years - it's not like this is something new.

Some people like them, and some don't. But there isn't any reason to condemn those who do.

Mary, her total heel height is 4"? I'm no expert on that kind of shoe, but I would have thought the platform added to 4" heels. Four inches was about the maximum in my day (and in your grandmother's, I'm guessing). I've read that today's platforms bring the heel height well beyond that.

I've seen a lot of pictures of pregnant stars wearing platform stilettos despite the shift in balance that pregnancy creates. I always hope they don't have to do much more than stand around looking decorative.

I'm betting that she could run a sprint in those heels because she is so used to them. I don't care for platforms, didn't wear them when they were in style when I was in my 20's and I don't wear them now. But whatever floats yer boat!

I do love heels, I too think they really enhance a woman's leg. When I was younger I seldom wore a flat and one time I too ended up in extreme pain from wearing them. Wearing heels all the time shortens the achilles tendon and calf muscles, when you them put on a flat it stretches them out in the same manner as that first big workout...OUCH!!!

Alisande - those heels are about 5.5-6" from ground to sole of foot at the heel. The platform is 2-2.5" from ground to sole of foot at the toe. The platform is only under the toes. Therefore, the total effective heel height is about 4 inches.

Really, not that outrageous, though I wouldn't want to wear them.
