Just a note...the Nkorho Pan has been out of commission for several days and though it is finally back on, it's still not up to par. While it was down, I started spending more time at the Africam Tembe location. I've seen, in just the last few days: lions, a leopard, rhino, elephants, hyena, civit, a zillion different antelope species, wildebeest, lots of storks and ibis (and other birds), zebra, and a very special visit by three very rare African spotted wilddogs. It's nearly 10:00 a.m. where I am, and it is still daylight. Giraffes are browsing in the trees. Two are 'necking'...which can be an aggressive act. The Africams utilize infrared cameras so that we can watch the night-time activities around these water holes. That's when the predators come out. http://www.africam.com/wildlife/tembe_webcam

I'm hoping PPO will lay more eggs in that pot this year so there will be more babies to watch. The camera is down now but this will get you to the siet where you can read about them and see pictures. Type in Pot Plant Owl and go to the Africam site. Underneath the heading click on 'More on PPO' That takes you to the links, blog, Facebook, etc. I feel like a godmother to them.

I saw an amazing film on I believe the National Geographic channel over the weekend. A cape buffalo calf was attacked by 5 or 6 lions right at a river's edge. As they were pulling it away a crocodile latched onto it, and after a brief tug of war the lions got it. Just then the rest of the buffalo herd, maybe 50 or so, came to the calf's aid. One of them hooked a lion on his horns and flipped it up in the air! The others chased the lions away one at a time and succeeded in rescuing the calf. Go to Youtube and search for buffalo lion crocodile and watch it. It's about 8 minutes long. You never saw anything like this!!!
