Lions on Africam

It's 7:28 pm EST on Monday and there are lions at the watering hole at the Tembe Africam

We watch that site all the time now. Lots of animals to see. Did you see the wildebeests chasing off the wild dogs? LOL. Too bad that Wild Earth closed down.

Lindakathy I didn't see that, but the lions are still there and a rhino just walked by.

There are several lions, a big male and at least 2 females. I love this site!

Well, let's hope Father Verizon, with the red hat and fur, treats you well this year! Do you have cable in your area that sells high-speed internet? I don't have DSL either - but 1/2 mile away in all directions they have it, so I got cable. My cable company claim 4MB download speed and I'm getting 3.86 consistently. Upload they claim 356 kbps and I do get that. You can check your true, vice claimed, connection speed on a website called Speakeasy.com My cable company is upgrading to 6MB in January. DSL claims 1.5MB so you might want to get a cable modem. They are faster, but it costs more. Worth it IMHO. My sister, who lives on a very rural horse farm, but is near Chapel Hill, NC has DSL on the farm (go figure). She also watches the Africam (and is hooked) on DSL and she gets freezing here and there, but not enough to make her not want to watch. Lately I've not gotten any freezing at all, but on the rare occasion when the site is extremely busy. CT

Sunrise is a good time to watch. Wildebeest, zebra, impala, jackals, hyenas...It's been pretty quiet there lately, though. You might see lions and rhinos and hyenas in the middle of the night. I saw an amazing film on I believe the National Geographic channel over the weekend. A cape buffalo calf was attacked by 5 or 6 lions right at a river's edge. As they were pulling it away a crocodile latched onto it, and after a brief tug of war the lions got it. Just then the rest of the buffalo herd, maybe 50 or so, came to the calf's aid. One of them hooked a lion on his horns and flipped it up in the air! The others chased the lions away one at a time and succeeded in rescuing the calf.

Go to Youtube and search for buffalo lion crocodile and watch it. It's about 8 minutes long. You never saw anything like this!!!
