Has anyone noticed that they seem to be falling apart easier than they used to? GS's shoes needed to be cleaned and it just fell apart leaving little "crumbs" all over the shoes and in my sink. I can remember several years ago when I used just one pad to clean scuff marks off our POA's Clubhouse floor. For the shoes, nearly 1/3 of the pad was gone. They weren't -that- dirty! LOL

My experience with them is not good and they always fell apart for me. It doesn't remove a thing off my walls without removing the paint. Anything it gets off I can get off with a damp cloth.

I bought my first M.E a while ago, and while my experience was they did a real good job cleaning my walls, (spot cleaning) I noticed they did crumble. I will keep one or two on hand, though.

I agree, nothing but repainting will fix this. But, you don't have to repaint the whole wall, just that area. Keep an empty pickle or other glass jar handy, and the next time you see the painter in an apartment, ask for some touch up paint. Buy a $1 disposable brush and you are good to go. Otherwise, remove one of the electrical outlet cover plates and take it to the closest paint store and have them match it. If your walls are white, the painters are probably using a paint store's pre-mixed color called Shell White. Start with the paint store closest to you. That's probably where the painters are going.

Tina, what company do you use? We have Terminix for both termite and pest control. They generally do the outside spraying and inside only when asked. I ask. lol. It was on our news last week that Oklahoma has a massive amount of BW's and fiddlebacks due to the heat, it's worse than usual. They can craw in the tiniest crack under a door, it's awful. Found a new use for the magic eraser! Yesterday I hand washed the porcelain tile in the utility room where the pets are fed (today is the kitchen), and of course they make huge messes with water mixing with dust. On the cream colored tile there were a few spots that wouldn't come up very good, along with dirt in the grout. The eraser did wonders, especially for the grout! I only had to do a few tiles with the eraser, and since there is no shine on the tile, I didn't worry about removing anything.

I love them they were a time saver and a big money saver when getting our last house ready to put on the market, saved having to paint in some instances. I was buying them at Sam's and Costco in the large economy packages. I always have some handy. Just last week a bug got in the house and my husband ended up smashing it all over the wall, ick! he got a Magic Eraser and it cleaned right up and left no marks on the paint. they do work well on showers.

This thread is actually really old but I felt I should mention something different bc I did not see this as a possible solution for those who are trying to remedy the problem of sheen damage to their cabinet doors. Rubbing a dull sheen when cleaning can buff up the sheen making that area noticeably stand out with high sheen spot. Just as a door with a higher sheen can be rubbed with a more abrasive material or chemical this can have a lowering of the sheen effect. In either case a good approach to this would be first to ensure to prep the surface before applying any type of sheen corrector on it . !st Best way is to first use a damp cloth mild soap and water (Dawn is a safe brand to use) to remove sugary film or grease residue on surface. 2nd Once clean and dry you will want to lightly sand with a super fine grit 2000 sand paper the area so that the sheens both shiny and dull are fading into each other. This will make it easier to coceal when you touch up the area. 3rd Identify what kind of material is used on cabinets. It is important because if the product your cabinets are not catalyzed what ever you use can have an adverse reaction to ti. For instance am uncatalyzed poly or an oil enamel finish will not be able to be touched up with a clear lacquer spray , reaction could make the finish crinckle and lift. To ensure this does not occur it is best to test out a small area . Preferrably the back of a drawer front for a reaction prior to using a clear lacquer spray can. 4th Choose to spray the back of a door to get the hang of sheen blending by first lightly sanding with 2000 and then lightly spraying that area . Choose the appropriate sheen level by Using a easy to spray touch up spray can like deft or valspar Clear Lacquer Matt, Satin , Semigloss or gloss, spray a light coat starting from one end of the AFFECTED AREA TO THE OTHER. These spray coating are very light and thin making it easy to blend into finish. If you are not satisfied with the first pass . You may need to hit this area again , keep in mind of blending your mist coat so that it basically disappears into the original sheen. Practicing on the back of a door is important to do so you can have the confidence and experience to hit the faces of the doors to be corrected.

Oh, I thought it was just me.
I bought one a few weeks ago, and cleaned the sink. It all crumbled apart and I thought it was a waste. It sure doesn't do what it looks like it *should* do on the commercials.....gets tossed to several people to clean different items, including tire rims. Not a crumble to be seen.

I must have gotten a good batch. I cleaned just about everything in my kitchen including the fronts of appliances and cabinet fronts. Even the back door. Then I cleaned the washer and dryer and outside refrigerator. I'm still using that one for the garage, but it looks really yucky. I just bought one made for bathroom tile. Hope it works as good.

I had the same experience recently cleaning athletic shoes, it just crumbled. Shoes looked a little better, but the sponge was in shreds pretty quick.

Could be a chemical reaction. Maybe whatever clean shoes conflict with what is in the magic eraser.

"They" always change the good stuff by cheapening the way it's made. Happens to restaurants and everything else, it seems. Just when I think I've found something I like, "they" change it.

I bought a ME bathroom cleaner and was just amazed at how quickly it cleaned my tub and sink. The porcelain and chrome really sparkle.

Yes, mine fall apart in a short time. Maybe the company is trying to make them with cheaper materials to save money? I have one left that hasn't been used, and I don't think I'll buy any more of them. Also, in my experience they're much more abrasive than the label sounds like. I saw a generic brand in the $1 store, I might try them if I find something I think it'll be ok to use them on.

I cut mine into smaller chunks. It doesn't all crumble at once then.

Mine always crumbled the way I used them before- after wetting them. On Sunday I used two of them dry, for a very dirty job, and I didn't wet them first. They cleaned very well, and didn't crumble until I tried to rinse them out.

I was going to mention what susan did... I think the wetness of the sponge can matter. I find sometimes they crumble and sometimes they don't. I think just a little moisture tends to work the best and leave less crumbling.

I have good experience with the dollar store ones too although half of the sponge (in blue) is a regular sponge and not the Magic sponge material.
