Yes, but like most kinds of worry, it accomplishes nothing. So I do whatever I can to make a difference, but when it comes to things I can't affect, I try not to think about them. It does no good, and is unhealthy for me.

Sort of like following the Serenity Prayer, now that I put it like that.

I worry, but my kids are both very frugal minded, so they will be fine until this latest crisis passes. I worry for THEIR children if we don't do something, though.

I'm with junkyardgirl, I do worry but I think my kids are very level headed and will do fine...But, the future doesn't look too good for the grand kids....

Sure, I worry, but I can only pray that they have a foundation based on faith and good sense and that their spouses have the same. I hope they instill this to their children. I hope they have learned that the most important things in life aren't things. That's very important to me.

I agree with Vannie. I hope I laid a good foundation for them. I also agree with Heather. It's natural to worry about your kids future.
As for myself, I'm sure glad the stock market went up this Thursday and Friday.

Yes, I am concerned not only for my children (all married) but grand and great grand kids. Sad to say, some seem to want so much, not wait, expect everything, but somehow they seem to survive.

no, there is nothing that can be done. The world is unravelling...As long as the government allows people to run amuck..then the people with money or inside information will continue as they are.
I teach my children to live with a good concience. That's all I can do.

At the moment, though, with threats of a world-wide recession looming, even the best-educated, most frugal among us may need a lot more than faith, foundations and good sense to get us through. That will help, of course, but in an economic collapse we will all be affected. We will lose many more jobs and houses, food may become rationed or extremely expensive, the infrastructure will crumble. Even those of us who think our jobs are secure and our money is safe may be in for the fight of our lives.

I am afraid that we are in for far worse than we think we are.

Absolutely positively I do. My girls are only 3 1/2 and 4 months old.

But like some of the above posters have said-I don't focus too much on the things I can't change. I just try to raise them to be polite decent people. I try to help others in my neighborhood. I support money going into education/libraries, afterschool programs and ridding the schools of drugs/gangs. I vote for people I think can enact positive change in the world. Eventually, I'd like to volunteer to mentor a child or help someone learn English-something like that.

I think every generation has problems, and we have ours. Some may seem impossible to fix, but yet we go on. I also think most people are decent-it's just the bad ones get all the attention!

I have always worried about my kids. Don't we all? If there is nothing big to worry about, I worry about the little things. Parents just worry. Must be part of the job description.

Worry or hope or concern ought to motivate parents to motivate their kids. Worry that does not motivate action to resolve real worries is useless. The next generation all need training for a profession that can support them and their families. So I push, push, push with education and sensible planning. My older son would get so upset with me when I disapproved of his report card full of B's. "Mom," he'd say, "all my friends' moms would love to see this report card come home with them." But I knew he was smart and able to do more. So I pushed, but I did not have a battleground in the kitchen.

They all have a profession and are earning good money. The married one has a wonderful spouse and delightful child.

We all need to remember that the USA is a strong country--good enough to weather this terrible storm. Try not to let 24/7 gloom and doom news stories redefine America. That is the root of some of our problems--the emotional reactions of people to the bad news the media spreads 24/7 and even exaggerates on a daily basis. The lazy reporting can do a number on you and the nation's outlook.

We had a serious crisis. I hope we are on the mend. But do not forget who we are and how sound this nation is, even with this national and global economic crisis.

Life is not perfect, and I am not saying that it is. I know people have lost jobs and their homes and their health. I also know that some people bought homes they had no business buying and some firms were managed imprudently and perhaps criminally.

I worry a lot, but know there are limits as to what I can do. I raised my dd the best way I knew and tried to teach her to be self sufficient. I still worry about her though, just as I worry about Anna, who is 12. All I can do is pray, research facts for the political race that is going on in the US now and hope the winner will be a wise person.

Worry is a big thing these days. I read this passage many years ago and it says, "It is not what you can do for your children but what you have taught them to do for themselves that will make them successful humnan beings".. Our children are 39, 37 and 31. They all went to college and have good jobs. They have all married well and are preparing for their children's college years. They all know things will be harder as the years go by. I had the most wondeful Father-in-law and he wrote us a letter one time and told us that many others could take some lessons from us. This made me feel really proud..RESPECT has always been a large part of our family. A little of it can take you a very long way..

We are a very close loving family and never take each other for granted.. My son, 39, calls me almost every day and says I Love You, Mom...

Always remember a small hugs goes miles....

My two nieces who graduated from college in May are both still unemployed. My two girls are in college, but neither has future career goals. I'm worried aboutb the economy and the world situation. I would love to see both of my girls married to good, caring men.

Of course I'm worried but I'm hopeful too. Sometimes things have to hit rock bottom before they get better. The price of gas for instance has led to people being more attentive to how much gas they're using and has the auto industry offering more alternatives. For a while there, I was afraid I was going to be the last one on the road driving a sedan.

As depressing as the economy is, seeing people being more frugal and stopping to think about what they spend on and what they really need is kind of a good thing.

I think eventually the practice of gov't officials and corporations only looking out for their own interests will bite them on the butt so to speak and they will start thinking about the greater good. Hopefully the country won't totally have to collapse for that to happen.

When we love, we worry, plain and simple. With the horrible shape this country is in, with drugs running rampent, with continued threats of terrorism, I can't help but worry about what kind of world my precious grandkids and greatgrands will experience. I pray daily about this.

I do have concern for my grandson, but it is totally out of my control. All I can do is hope for the best.

Put my name on Sherrmann's post. The stock market's temporary rally on Thursday and Friday was not a real rally (IMHO). We the taxpayers were just forced to give about $1,000,000,000,000 (that's a trillion dollars) to the bankers and financiers who lost all their customer's money due to bad business, greed and corruption.

And yet we're told that this trillion-dollar bailout was better than the alternative: The complete, system-wide catastrophic collapse of America's economy. Holy Toledo, if that statement doesn't scare the bejeebies out of you, nothing will.

History books will cite this move as unprecedented and it may well mark the beginning of the end of our economy. BTW, if there are 100 million taxpayers in America, that's $10,000 each of us were forced to give to the financial giants so that they can keep on with "business as usual".

Yes, I worry for my children and their children but I think they'll bear witness to a much simpler age. The sun is setting on the age of debt and the age of living beyond your means. We'll soon return to a cash-only, pay-as-you-go society.
