can anyone help? re: baby shower

My daughter will be helping to host a baby shower. She would like ideas for table settings. There will be about 25 women invited. The theme for the shower is sports. She would like to make molded chocolate pieces (baseball mitt, ball, bat, football, basketball, hockey stick, etc.) to use as part of her favors but would like ideas of what would they look cute displayed in. Any ideas would be great. Thanks

Get some inexpensive plastic baseball mitts and wiffle (?) balls. put the ball in the mitt and the chocolate suckers in the holes of the ball. Not sure where you can find the plastic mitts but I remember seeing them for preschoolers. They aren't good enough to protect your hand actually playing ball but allow the little kids to look grown-up

If these molded chocolates are for each guest's place setting? I'm thinking to use the plastic baby bassinets and if you can find picks with a baby's head on them? Insert the head into the end of the chocolate & place in the bassinet. Little printed tags could be attached on the bassinet that say "Baseball Baby", "Hockey Baby", etc, etc.
You can check out Wilton's website for the bassinets, baby picks. If no bassinets? You can actually make them by using the Wilton's egg shaped pan, and use for a sugar mold or make minicakes. Scoop out some of the cake from the 1 half of the cake, to place the chocolate into, then cut the other half -in half & attach it onto the basket's end, for the 'hood' of the bassinet. Make sure to slice a bit off the bottom of the basket half so it sits flat.

tralynn, Hi, and Welcome. I am guessing the expected one is a boy :) As far as the chocolate lollypops and a way to display them. Have her go to the dollar store or a few other stores looking to see if she can find some coffee mugs that are sports related (this way they get a take home gift). Take the sports mug and put styrofoam in it, then poke in the end part of the stick of the chocolate lollypops into the styrofoam. Cover the stryofoam with the shredded plastic or paper in your color theme that you can find at Walmart and most dollar stores. Then as a place card, you can attach a name tag with your guests name on it (either make the tag with the special cutters they have out in the scrapbook stores or cut it out with the scalloped scissors they sell at the craft store, then use a one hole punch to put a hole at the top of the tag, attach the tag to the mug with ribbon and you are set. As for the rest of the table, you can set up a centerpiece with a layout of sports equipment (football, baseball etc) Another popular thing these days is to do cupcakes as the main dessert. You can find inexpensive cupcake stands at Walmart, Michaels Arts and Crafts etc. The cupcake stand makes a nice center piece too. HTHs

There's no trick to it. It firms up on its own as it cools. I've had success by nuking frosting at 50% in 5 second increments until it's just barely just liquified. I test by stirring. It only needs to be warm enough to be dip-able. In my mind, (your mileage may vary) warming the frosting in a shallow, flat-bottomed container, barely bigger than your cubes, would be less messy than pouring... you could dip one side at a time, and if you worked quickly, your finger marks in the frozen cake would fall out as it cooled. I learned this trick from an awesome book I bought my niece and nephew for Christmas. They describe the technique on pages 18 & 19, which you can see by clicking on the "search inside this book" link, entering the work "microwave" in the search pane, selecting the second search result, and turning to page 19 with the right hand arrow. (For the record, the book is way fun!) I tried this dipping technique with cupcake frosting and the results were so flawless that the ladies I served them to assumed I'd done something very difficult and fancy. The punchline was that it took less time to dip (from scratch) cupcakes into warmed white Duncan Heinz frosting (with a bit of yellow food coloring and lemon extract added) than it would have taken to frost by the traditional method. The frosting firmed up a bit and they looked beautiful. This book also demonstrates a stupid-simple technique of drawing a design on a paper template, slipping the template on wax paper, melting some colored wafers, spooning them into a ziploc, cutting a tiny hole in the corner, and drawing on the wax paper. A herbicide is a pesticide :-)) It is doubtful that you are still experiencing herbicide residue........most will breakdown into harmless components after just a few days to a week or two in the soil or exposed to sunlight. There are some that are more persistent but are generally not available for use by homeowners. It is not a disease problem - most plants diseases are very host specific and do not spread throughout the garden. That leaves cultural issues - soil, watering practices and weather or climate. Given the information you provided so far, I'd guess watering combined with hot summer weather. It is very unlikely that you would need to water on a daily basis for anything that has been planted more than a few weeks. Depending on your soil and how well it drains, you might be applying too much with a daily watering or too little by not allowing the water to run long enough or penetrate deeply. The mantra for watering a garden is low and slow and infrequently.....maybe once or twice a week at most. ps: you never need to remove any mulch.....you just add to it as necessary. And ants are not an issue unless they are farming aphids. They do not eat plants.

I agree with this "like any other gift giving occasion. How much you spend is a function of your means and you closeness" but would add, that is it also a function of the means of the recipient. I might give a very impractical cashmere baby blanket (albeit washable) or baby china to an affluent couple. For a couple with very limited means, I would choose something very practical ... even diapers (a lot of them clearly). For any occasion where someone is registered, 80% or so of what I give is from the registry, with the other 20% a total surprise based on my own ideas (like gift giving of yore). And yes, a baby book, pref a board book, and not one of the top 10 most popular.

I know a few really fun games.

1)Guess that baby food. Use a disposible plate that you can write on. Section it off in however many flavors you want to use and number each section, one plate is prepared for each guest. Put spoonful of babyfood on each section and have your guests try and name that flavor. You can have guests write it down on paper/with corresponing number. ie: 1)bananna, 2)pear... and then have someone announce the flavors to see how many people guessed right. Its really funny!

2)You can do this casually during party. Pass around a ball of string/cord. Just cotton/or kite string or whatever you have that works. Have each guest cut off a length that they think will fit around moms belly. Whoever gets the closest wins. You do have to have mom stand there while each person sees if their string comes the closest to the correct circumference. You do need a good sense of humor for this one!

They have pretty cupcake boxes with clear cellophane tops that can hold 2 cupcakes. If she wants to keep along the edible line, she can decorate the cupcakes with green coconut grass and place the molded chocolate pieces on them.

Small baby bathtub outfit--if square, mark ends as if racing. Check the $$ stores both in the baby dept --just walk up/down isles for ideas. Mini baseball field with tiny diapers for plates.
