Hunt photos, one tired dog, dirty truck, good day

Don't scroll down to the photo if hunting shots of geese and ducks bother you. There's no blood, but they are dead. We eat them.

Yesterday Wes took Sam out on a grouse hunt; they got one. Sam retrieved it "okay," but he's just not the driven hunter Mr. H is.

Harry had gone for grouse and pheasant last break; they got two of each. Wes rotates the dogs since they don't get along all that well. Sam's playing in the field and inattention really bothers Harry. Sam and Harry don't "work" together, at all, in the fields. Harry's the original goof-ball until the second Wes picks up a shotgun. A switch goes off in Harry's brain and he's all business.

Today Wes took Harry out for the first goose and duck hunt of the season. Harry was overjoyed. He lives for goose hunting. He hunts anything and everything, but geese get his blood boiling.

Here's a very, very tired Harry, a very dirty truck, and the fruits of their day's labor.

I promise he was happy. He was tired and didn't want to sit there ( and not being allowed to eat the goose ) and have his photo taken. He wanted the rest of his dinner and a good snooze on his dog lounger.

After a hunt we wait two hours before we feed them. Then they get a half-dinner; an hour later they get the rest, and an hour after that they can have another scoop if they ask for it. This lessens the chance for Gastric Dilatation/Volvulus, aka "bloat". Bloat took our sweet little BeeGee ( Harry's mom; Sam's Great x4 grandmother) so we're extra cautious with the boys.

She had not been hunting for several days before she bloated; the vet couldn't tell us what caused it.
