I hope you can find him. And I hope he isn't behind the cabinets or behind the kick plate and you can't get to him.

DH found a baby mouse floating in the skimmer of the pool on a piece of paper. I pulled him out. Dried him off with the blow dryer and sent him on his way. He was terrified and the water was pretty cold. I hope he made it. DH couldn't believe I did that. But he was soooooo cute! (I am assuming mine and yours are little boys. LOL)

Wait a few days and you will know for sure. LOL

Oh, there's nothing like the smell of decomp in the morning! lol

Woody had to pick up a dead rat at 3 AM, Beeswax brought us a gift, wasn't that nice? lol

ronf, you're funny. My Midnight was the best hunter, but she ALWAYS had to share ... at least little pieces. I'd wake up to the strangest things on the pillow next to my head. ICK!

I have two cats (plus an indoor barn cat), and they're good mousers. I don't know how this happened . . . but maybe it's not a mouse. It actually smells more like rotten garbage. But since I'm not in the habit of tossing garbage into cabinets, I'm guessing it's a mouse.

Vicki, good for you! That sounds like something I would do.

I had one in my bedroom wall many moons ago. First I heard it scratching and then I smelled the decomposition.

Ugh, well better dead than alive perhaps?
If you can't find the little corpse, check to make sure it is not your drain - since it smells more like garbage than mouse decomp.

I've gone through all the cabinets in that area....one good thing is that I discovered where I've been keeping my cookie cutters. LOL

I sniffed the drain, too. Nuthin'.

It might have died in the wall void behind your cabinets. If so, nothing really much you can do about it, except let nature take its course.

That happened to me in my last house. I ended up moving all the food out of the nearby cabinets until the smell had dissipated, which was about two weeks.

We had one at work that must have died somewhere that wasn't easy to find! OMG it reeked. We checked every place we could think of or see and even tried to "follow" our nose several times. Never did find it. :(

I had a mouse jump out of the cereal box right into my face - kind of a shock. It then ran down the counter to the floor and then my super Alpha mini Dachshund and 10 lb. super cat took off in pursuit - each taking a different route - and ended up cornering the mouse by a door - who then had a heart attack due to the shock. Cereal is now immediately put into a special container. We have had other mice over the years that said cat would catch and bring to show me - usually when I was in the tub - my husband was spared being shown the spoils of the hunt. I am the adored one.

maybe spray or sprinkle baking soda and push as much as you can in the cracks? and put some down the drain and let sit...

eccentric...mine do the same only it usually it's left on the front porch...in pieces!

Check your potatoes. Rotten potatoes smell a lot like a dead mouse.

Mollycats, I didn't know that. But thanks to my potato allergy, I don't have a single one in the house.

LOL, Eccentric. Being the adored one (of any species) is always a mixed blessing.

Any old citrus fruit in the fruit bowl? - that can have a funky smell. (See I'm desparetly trying to find you something OTHER than a dead rodent!)

A while ago I had a mouse that had been caught in a trap on a food shelf ... so long earlier that it got a bit stuck down. Hadn't noticed a smell ... but then, I don't smell too well.

The "affectionate package" disposal unit seemed to enjoy it, though. At least, I think that it was the affectionate one, not the barn cat that, for about five years, though she follows me around, wouldn't let me touch her ... but has allowed it, recently (only when she's eating). The recently-grown black one sometimes allows it when he's eating ... and the two recently-appeared half-grown ones sometimes allow it while they're eating ... and they sometimes hang around when I'm nearby, while they used to run like a streak of greased lightning whenever I showed on the scene: I guess that a cat can get used to almost anything!

Check your onions, Susan. They can be pretty awful too, when they go bad. Also, pull out your fridge and sniff around back there, sometimes they'll go into the bottom of the fridge where the compressor is and die and decompose. If it's in a wall or ceiling, it's going to be a stinky 2 weeks.

I'd have to hire someone to take care of that task. Scared of mice - even dead ones. They give me the creeps. Good luck. You are a brave woman.

We went through Gilroy, California one time...lots of garlic there. So much that my DH was looking a little green as we were driving through. I thought for sure he was going to lose it in the truck. On the way back, I convinced him to let me buy a "garlic braid". It was really pretty. About 6 months later, we could smell this horrid smell when we would walk into our condo. Took about a week to figure it out. I went through all the cabinets. Poured vinegar down the drain. Ran lemons and limes through the disposal. Cleaned out the drip pan in the fridge. Cleaned out the fridge. Finally looked up one day and the garlic, which was hanging on the wall was sprouting and it smelled horrid! Smelled like either a decomposing mouse or bad potatoes. And I don't know which one is worse.

Vicki, that's a funny story. I had a bulb dish garden on my desk at work. One morning I came in and there was a terrible smell in my cubicle. It was a rotted flower bulb!

Well, my garlic looks (and smells) healthy. I have yams, but they passed the sniff test with flying colors. My fridge is on the other side of the room and smells okay. The onions were purchased yesterday.

The smell is strongest in the cabinet I emptied today. I can only conclude that the mouse is behind or under it, and I'll just have to wait this out. Ugh.
