When I went to preview the message, a square appeared. I'll now try alt 186 as the temperature at 6:47 is now 88�U

I have used capslock & alt 0186 It works for me, but we may have different systems?

On my iMAC I push shift, alt and 8 to get the degree sign. 75�.

I tried them all, and that's what I got! Before submitting my response, the ALT 167 and Caps Lock & ALT 0186 both look right. Who knows what it'll look like once submitted! I'm on Windows XP.

No, its not only the gardenweb. For months now where ever I try to use the degrees symbol it will take me right off the page even in my emails I will loose that page. It never used to do that and worked just fine. Is there a new way to do this now?

I GOT IT !!! I had to google again but now it works.

You MUST have the number lock on. then use the number key pad
while using ALT with 167 � or ALT with 0176 �

This is really strange, it works sometimes!

It's 65� this morning and raining. I hold ALT and key in 0176. Works for me! Except on the laptops with no number key pad, then I can't remember what I used to do. Make sure your number lock is on.

Well it worked in preview! I think something is messsed up at GW. I know it always messes up the symbols in a recipe when we copy and paste from a saved file.

I went to my browser and changed the encoding to
Western Windows 1252 and then hit alt 167

but then there were funny symbols on every other website,
so I changed the encoding to Western, which it was on before I changed it to western windows. And the funny symbols were still there, so I just changed it to unicode. and the symbols are gone, except on what is posted in this thread! lol

yes it will have to do with the setting in your browser you can change those settings and find what works for you in some settings you do see strange characters.
on firefox go to view up top then encoding to see your options

here are a few other options to look at in firefox

View->Character encoding->auto-detect->set it to off

Tools->Options->Content->is the default font set to Times New Roman?

Tools->Options-> Content->Fonts and Colors->Advanced->Is the checkbox checked for "allow pages to choose their own font"? If it isn't - check it.

there under that advanced button for the fonts and colors you have various selection options.
you can try some of those to see what differences you see.

and some times it is just bad website code.

That is crazy. I always use Alt. 0176, but that did not work either, so it is within this board.

I just use the asterisk. It is 94.9* right now. I figure anyone would know what I'm talking about and it's not hard for me to remember.
