Happy Birthday, Mama 100 yrs old

if she had lived.

My Mom died in 1969 and today would have been her 100th birthday.

The girl in the middle is my mom.....

I was so fortunate to have such a wonderful mama....too bad I didn't realize it until after she was gone.

What a wonderful picture.

It is awful when you lose your parents. Not a day goes by that I don't think about my Mama too.

Hey, Anita, those are pressure treated 2x4s (probably should been 4x4s) 2' in the ground (not in concrete but our compacted sand is as close to concrete as you can get.) You may be right about stiffening them up. I'll have to consult DH. He thought I was making the trellis too big. Ha! I TOLD him it was going to be a BIG rose. Sherry

I have a friend that shared some photos of her 2 year olds birthday party. The cake was adorable. It was baked in an bundt pan and a Barbie doll was stood in the middle. It was frosted like a big ruffly skirt and some flowers added at the bottom. Granddaugter loved it and got a Barbie Doll to boot! arkiema

Standard a/c or Unico for 100 yr old house

Thanks brickeyee & airsome. This is a rowhouse with a flat roof, and in our neighborhood pretty much everyone's condensor goes on the roof, b/c the backyards are small & you can't stick the noisy condensor right under your neighbor's window. That being said, not many have central A/C. Are condensors the same size for Unico as for conventional? So if my architect says we need steel beams to support the condensor in traditional model (I'm assuming both for weight & vibration?), would you expect we also need the steel for Unico? Regarding efficiency, I would have thought that the bigger vents of conventional systems would have wasted more cooling, vs. smaller tubes. Why the lesser efficiency from Unico? BTW, regarding the ground floor question from the OP, our architect is designing most cooling on the 3rd & 4th floors, some on the second (parlor) floor, and none on the garden level, which is slightly below ground. His experience is that the lower floor will stay comfortable if there's some cross-breeze. Thanks again.

So funny you should say that fuzzywuzzer. My main impetus for change is that blue gray clashes with the garden in summer. I love it in the winter against the mounds of white snow, but in summer - hate it. I'll get a sample of the Tudor. I'm sure I'll be getting a lot of samples. Last time, the front of the house looked like a patchwork quilt. Cyn427 - yes, I don't like the busy-ness either. By painting out the trim, I meant paint it the same colour as the body of the house. I'd love to change the trim colour to something creamier, but that would unfortuanately escalate the cost. trailrunner and lesterd, thank you so much for the links. They provide much inspiration. Even though I'm hoping for a slightly more modern look than the lovely painted ladies, it is wonderful to see what the colours look like on a house with siding. I'm on vacation this week and think I'll spend some time driving around the city looking for inspiration. Such a huge investment, I want to get it right this time.

My mother also would have been 100 if she had lived on
March 6. Instead we buried my brother who was 75 yrs old
with her on that day.

Isn't it the truth you don't appreciate them until they are gone. My mother died when she was 44, we were best friends. I miss her everyday and wish we could have had many more years together.

That is a wonderful picture Carol. The picture in the other post you look a lot alike.

My mother would have been 100 last week. Hard to believe. She was almost 92 when she died.

Thanks for the lovely family photo. Looks like your mother was eldest girl. Were there more siblings later or just the two in the picture?

My paternal grandfather did live to 100 -- sharp and taking a daily walk right up to the last two or three months. My mom would be 104 now, but has been gone for over 30 years. Mothers...irreplaceable.

My mom had one brother and two sisters. Aunt Bertie was born after the picture was taken. She was mentally slow in some ways but had an amazing memory and a fascination with numbers.
My mom had a stroke when she was 48 and died of a heart attack at age 59.
I am sad my children didn't get to know her.
