Like I need something more to watch on TV!! But this is tempting me. Do you know how much a month you pay for Starz?

LATER--I watched it! So good! I'd love to see the rest of it, but Starz is $15 a month and we already have plenty invested in TV viewing.

I don't know how to tell you this, Alisande, there are 8 books in the series plus some other books about some of the characters! ENJOY!

I DVR'd it to watch later. I've read all the books but the latest one. I just cancelled HBO and got STARZ, simply because of the new Outlander series. :)

I don't have Starz anymore got rid of all the pay movie channels. I will see about watching through online.

We added Starz to our DirecTV just for this series!!!

Crud, my DVR didn't get the preview, so I've moved that particular time to the very top of my list so that won't happen again! Now I have to wait to watch it premier later this week.

Flamy, you can access the preview through Starz on Demand. It's not on at a set time like the regular show.

So far I've watched it 3 times and I will probably watch it a bunch more. It's that good.

Lindy, thanks but that won't work for us- we have ridiculous data limits thru Verizon, even a couple of 2 minute you tube videos can use up a days worth of data!

I'm sorry that won't work for you. DD has that same problem so she watched it with me. At least it will be on regular Starz this Saturday.

I have loved the books and have looked forward to the tv series. I have watched the first episode and thought it followed the book. I thought the actress playing Claire was just what I would have imagined. Jamie was so covered with dirt and blood I really couldn't see him but did think he would have redder hair.

I enjoyed the first books in this series of "bodice rippers'. I quit when the later books started to feel forced. (All good things come to an end, but authors and publishers can't help it if people will buy old bread.)

I think the early books will make great TV drama. The author was quoted saying she can't wait to see "Jamie" debased (by the cruel what's-his-name). That struck me as gross, but then...she wrote it, and we read it!

Wow. Calling this series of books "bodice rippers" is pretty insulting to the author and her legion of fans, us included, I think. I'm not sure how many of her books made it to the NYTimes Bestsellers List, but I'm sure it's several and I know that they are published in many different languages and are popular all around the world. They are not exactly a Harlequin Romance, if you ask me. These are historical books that take years to research and create and are anxiously anticipated by her readers. Old bread? To you, maybe.

Nothing wrong with bodice rippers. Sex is always popular. It's more permissible for some to read about it set in another time in history (as are most bodice rippers). These are even more safely 'removed' with the time-travel fantasy. Gabaldon isn't writing historical novels here.

Well there is no lack of sex in Outlander but I would NEVER call it a bodice ripper. These are some of the best researched historical novels I have ever read.

Sam and Catriona are doing a great job as Jamie and Claire. Jamie's hair might not be as red as we pictured it but I don't care. Sam IS Jamie. The chemistry between the two is incredible.

So far I've watched the first episode 4 times and I don't usually watch anything more than once.

Does anyone know how many episodes there are? Are they aired weekly? I'm trying to figure out how many months I'd have to pay for. Hmmm...maybe I could cancel one of those miserable "tiers."

The Web site says Starz ordered 16 episodes but I didn't find the viewing schedule.

If you want literary-award-winning historical novels, read Hilary Mantel. The last in her trilogy on Thomas Cromwell should be out soon. These are *long*. You'll need a head start.

ok I did a tivo season pass...I'm always willing to try a new show!!

My sister and her daughters, and a couple of my nieces absolutely raved about these books. Sis is reading number 8 right now.

I was visiting her these past couple days and they purchased Starz for 10 months just to watch this series. I will say, both she and her daughter weren't crazy about the woman playing Clair, or with Jamie. They said the same as some others, hair is not red, and he doesn't tower over her.

I hope I can track down the books among friends and family and read them.

I watched it and liked it! I am a big fan of the book series. I am not completely sold on the actors yet. Claire seems too stoic based on how she cannot hide her emotions in the book but maybe that will develop. Jamie is throwing me off because he was an older man when I started the series in high school and now he looks younger than I am, lol.

Overall, I think it's very well done and I will definitely watch.

socks - the local news channel had a segment on the series and they stated that 8 episodes will run this season and then 8 next season.
